Olympics: The Other Side of the Competition
With the 2012 Summer Olympics winding down, athletes have many rituals to try to win. There have been countless athletes that say they abstain from sex before the lead up to a big game, competition or event in order for their performance not to be affected.
One of the theories behind abstinence is that it zaps player’s energy by making you tired. Second, it could affect your concentration levels affecting your psychological state of mind. But many doctors say there is no scientific proof proving those beliefs. In the Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine Ian Shrier wrote that the “long-standing myth that athletes should practice abstinence before important competitions may stem from the theory that sexual frustration leads to increased aggression.”
At the London games, many athletes may not believe this myth any more either. U.S . women’s soccer goalie Hope Solo has already described the Olympic Village as a place where “there’s a lot of sex going on”. The Olympic committee were probably given a heads up before Solo even said anything because according to The Guardian a record 150,000 condoms will be handed out, 50% more than the 100,000 that were supplied in Beijing in 2008. The images from this year’s game have been unintentionally hilarious and if you’re looking for a laugh Cracked.com recently wrote an article showcasing “The 6 Most Accidentally Erotic Images of the 2012 Olympics”.
It looks like there will be plenty of “fun and games” at the Olympics this year and the athletes won’t be running out of ideas as to how to celebrate their medal victories. It’s only natural with so many people from so many countries the only language everyone speaks will be one.

That’s just wrong…
This might be my sole motivation for trying to get into the olympics.
Weird post…
I think the main theory behind abstaining from sex is the old ethic of “work before pleasure.”
Interesting topic, I must say! One of the suggested “myths” is “the theory that sexual frustration leads to increased aggression.” I simply cannot understand why this “theory” is still relegated to the cheap seats when everyone who has ever had sex knows that sexual satisfaction alters one’s mindset and mood considerably! Outside of sociopaths or those with a mental malady, the most aggressive of people suddenly become playful kittens and puppies in the bedroom! The affection felt at that moment in time cannot and does not conjur up thoughts or feelings of agression…in fact, it counters them! Come on peeps, own up! We’re all saps after having sex! Who feels like chastising someone for anything they may have said or done when you are sated? Contrast that with the fact that just before your sexual encounter you threw your right shoe at the dog for relieving himself, once again, on the new carpet. Had that happened afterwards you would have been much more empathetic since you hadn’t allowed him access to the backyard for several hours…and you would have chastised yourself for not doing so! No proof? Hogwash!
This Olympics has been more about exploiting beefcake and cheescake shots than the actual competition. Just take a look at the publicity photos of the U.S. Women’s Gymnastic team. The shots look more like a photo shoot for the cover of Maxim magazine than they do 16-year-old olympic gymnasts.
Hahaha! This did make me laugh
My friends a boxer and he is not allowed to engage in any sexual activity sometimes dating up to 3 weeks before a fight in case it effects his performance..
I do wonder what difference it makes though? Would be interesting to know if anyone has ever tested these theories?

Leave it to Yahoo to cover sex in the Olympics. I guess it’s what the people want to hear about. It’s salacious and our society sees sex in everything. Sex. Sex. Sex.
Huxley’s Brave New World was a very prophetic vision of our current society.
I find a bit disturbing that people have so negative view of prostitution and pornography but still talk about sex like they’d do it everyday. People used to talk about love and making love and kids, but nowadays it’s just raw sex.
So I usually get this very superficial feeling when people talk smiling about that they had 5 times sex this week and I have a good sex life bla bla and then spit on some guy who has paid for sex once or watches pornography once a month.
It’s like saying that drinking milk is the biggest sin of the world expect you drink milk free everyday and you even brag with it…
