We’ve Reached 300 Million Questions!

Tags: , ,

It’s a milestone that should be celebrated: In June, we hit 300,000,000 questions asked on Yahoo! Answers! And for those of you, who cannot wrap their heads around all those zeros, we’re happy to repeat in words: Globally, 300 million times people have been asking for help, advice, and facts on our amazing questions and answers portal.

And our statistics reveal further interesting numbers:

On average, 2 questions are being asked and 6 answered per second. So this means there’s an astonishing 7,000 questions and an incredible 21,000 answers per hour. Wow!

The question that has been answered the most globally is the following one from the US: Which question would you like to ask the President of the United States Barack Obama? The question received a stunning 41,130 answers!

In the US, the most answered question (from a community member) was from Jack and he asked What will you remember most about Michael Jackson? It received 6407 answers!

In the UK, the most answered question (from a community member) was from Amanda R and she asked Why is it that some people seem to have it really easy in life and have good things happen to them?

We want to thank you for your trust, your loyalty, and your interest! And of course, we are excitedly looking forward to your next 100 million questions!

Thanks for reading,

  3. It’s intresting that Amada’s question had 736 answers but only 11 “stars” from ppl thinking that it was intresting. Why are ppl so stingy with giving “stars’

  9. You should allow swearing, some things just can’t be conveyed without expletives. And hey, they’re still words so why not? :)

  11. Wonderful milestone for the Yahoo team!

I’m glad people can’t swear on here. There is always a more intelligent way to express anger, and anger is irrational to start with.

In the Science and Mathematics -> Mathematics area I’ve found a useful tool for entering math markup is a Firefox plugin called EasyMath. It has few downloads yet. Please add something like this to your site for math and science. With someone like Douglas Crockford on your side and tools like YUI it should be a piece of cake.

  16. Yes, and it is great to see, but so many are really repeats in some form, people do not pay attention to that wait, we may have your answer, hence why in the polls and surveys and politics and gender studies and. religion and spirituality sections the same, hey Atheist why doesn’t this do thst if no God, or Hey democrats if taxes solve this blah blah, or the inane repeats from the freak posters pretending to be lost without a country wanting to know where to turn!
Nice milestone but it does have some asterisks, I know I am gloomy gus here, but it’s the truth :(

  18. Congratulations, Yahoo Answers. It is a great site. And I still have my Yahoo Answers Level 7 fleecy they gave out in 2006/07 to everyone who had gotten to Level 7. And the tube thing that sings “Yaaaaaahoooooooooo” when you open it. I am just a little surprised that so few people have commented here. Aaahhh for the old days! We don’t see much of Judas Rabbi and Richard anymore and Imaka isn’t around. It was more of a family then.
