  2. I have found Yahoo Answers a wonderful resource
and just such an amazing, and almost genius way for us to be ‘prompted(?)’ to share our knowledge,
    help one another.

I love so many areas, and wish there was more
time to peruse them all!! I’ve received KEY help
with a heater that a techno told me could be
dangerous and take it back (I did), also
health things, and many other things.

    I also find R & S interesting and stimulating
    provoking much ‘food for thought’.

I’ve also been delighted with how the staff
are careful and if we don’t see a VN posted,
they do read it, do try to see our point,
    and will return the question.

And then they post the material we put
so this adds to the experience also.
I do not begrudge Yahoo the need to
raise some money to do all this.
    Thanks a lot!!

  3. I’m here since April 2006 and I wonder why this Y!A thing is not touted by the media in general, where we can see that Facebook, Linkedin and such social media gets their due share of public gossip, for good or bad.

We are 150 million people in Bangladesh and I can count the numbers of Y!A users easily, whereas our people are hooked up with FB.

Btw, I miss the sad demise of Y!360 that would have rivaled FB if Yahoo! management would have let Y!360 grow. Too sad that they missed the bus.

I wish continued success of Y!A wholeheartedly.

  7. Yahoo should be number 1 not number 5 because Google copied and took their materials from Yahoo, Microsoft is crap, and Bing is crap because they also copied from Google search, which in turn copied from Yahoo search! Google translate is crap. Wikipedia, although I respect the free form of having everyone being able to edit it, but those who abuse the powers and edit the correct stuff and put crap up is what I’m against!

  8. I do love being a part of yahoo answers. At one time I was addicted to it. I still visit most every day. Just need to remember that I do have this life to live. As long as I have Yahoo Answers and the friends I have made, I shall never be lonely. Thank God.

    1. Facebook
    2. Twitter
    3. Myspace
    4. Pornhub
    5. Y!A!

  10. Does this recognition mean that Yahoo management will finally apply some resources to YA?

It’s a good resource, fairly amusing, and a very sticky application. People spend a lot more time here than on most sites.

A small amount of resources on spam prevention (more than just CM) might move YA up a notch or two.

  13. After asking one question on yahoo answers I have to say it is crap! Got 3 answers that have not been particularly helpful and yahoo keeps sending me mail to say I have new answers. When I open it up thinking I have a new answer, turns out it is one of the 3 unhelpful answers I got before! Garbage.

  17. Congrats on your popularity. I can see why it’s popular and also quite addicting. I began in late 2007 answering questions in the television and home theater categories, achieving a high percentage of correct answers, somewhere over 60%.

I’ve since switched to the politics category where my percentage of best answers is dwindling. Proof positive that you can’t please all the people all the time. In fact, the politics category is a bit of a blood bath but that’s a major part of its allure. What’s the point of sharing political information with people whom already agree with you?

I’ve made a great many friends here, from around the world, and would recomend Yahoo! Answers to anyone. Not interested in politics? There are dozens and dozens of other categories from calculus help to dating issues. Have fun!

  22. Well they have got that wrong because at the moment the top 5 are:

    Facebook
    Twitter
    Google+
    Linked in
    MySpace

In the future I would expect to see Twitter become number one and Google+ challenge Facebook as it is a very badly run company. I think MySpace will drop away further unless they can be bought out by one of the big social networks and their site completely overhauled. YA! is big but not as big as it thinks it is, and I am not sure whether you can really class it as a social network? I believe we will potentially see a Chinese social network become number one. Pinterest seems to be doing well at the moment too.

  23. well, That is neat to know, but the part about 54 million unique users in the U.S. and 250 million worldwide, ok there are a lot for sure, but how many are actually people, and how many are spambots and sockpuppets, I know that is a bit cynical, but I know it is also true. It is fun, and you do get to meet people and learn stuff, but I really wonder, are some of those user truly unique?

  27. I said Pinterest was doing well, I didn’t say it was beating YA!. I did say that FB, Twitter, G+, Linked In and My Space all beat YA! though and I am pretty sure there may be a Chinese social network, even Indian in the future that will surpass them. I am skeptical about the claim that YA! is 5th biggest. Maybe in the US it might be but not worldwide.

  31. This site can hardly be classed as a social network.
As one can get banned for “Chatting”.
I myself, think the ratings have gone down sence recent changes here at Y!A…
    But, what do I know?

  35. I love this site.

It’s like if a rhino gave birth to a whale, somehow. I mean, it’d be pretty weird and disgusting in some places, and you’d just have to question how such a thing is possible. I’m sure some more horrid folks would point out irrelevant things. But, it is also just medically fascinating, and even if the dynamics of it are close to impossible—

    I don’t know where I’m going with this. Still…

Great site. Love ya. Stay golden, baby doll.

  42. Yahoo started out in 2005 with serious users, it was a true place to ask questions and get helpful answers. Y!A reached his highest popularity in 2008 with hundreds of thousands of questions asked each day which is why they had a few glitches due to overload. As the trolls invaded in 2008 and more of them started reporting questions and answers, more people started getting suspended due to report abuse by these trolls. By 2010, the popularity continued to decline due to the troll invasion of 2008. To this day there are now less people on Y!A then ever before and also less trolls than before. Y!A has improved report abuse complaints and still maintain a steady flow of questions which now number around 50,000 a day.

  47. I have enjoyed answering what I think are serious Qs at YA and think it is more of an information site than a social site. Whatever.
But, lately I have spotted (and tried to report) users who apparently sign themselves up under several names, ask Qs on a specific topic and then come back in and answer them in what seems to be an effort to get legal clients or hits on a website. Some of the Qs and As are so similar to each other that they are probably written by the same person. I tried once recently to report this but never got a reply and nothing has changed. My use of YA will probably decrease because of this. I took things seriously but discovered that trolls are running the show on the subjects I am most knowledgeable about.

  49. Can I simply say what a relief to find a person that genuinely
knows what they are discussing on the web.
You definitely realize how to bring an issue to light and make it important.
A lot more people ought to look at this and understand this side of your story.

It’s surprising you aren’t more popular given that you definitely possess the
    gift.
