And the winner is…
The first Academy Awards ceremony was on May 16, 1929 hosted by Douglas Fairbanks. It wasn’t broadcast on radio or television and only lasted 15 minutes. Times have changed since then. The Oscars are now broadcast to more than 1 billion people worldwide and three hours long!
How did the Academy Award get the nickname “Oscar”? According to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences the nickname “Oscar” came about when then “Academy librarian (and eventual executive director) Margaret Herrick remarked that it resembled her Uncle Oscar. The Academy didn’t adopt the nickname officially until 1939, but it was widely known enough by 1934 that Hollywood columnist Sidney Skolsky used it in a piece referring to Katharine Hepburn’s first Best Actress win.”
The Oscar’s official name is the Academy Award® of Merit, weighs 8.5 pounds is 13.5 inches and takes 3-4 weeks to manufacture. So who will be the lucky winners this year to take home the coveted prize?

Really good info on the reason for being named the Oscar !
Heath Ledger won an Oscar for his role as The Joker in The Dark Knight. Of course he was all scary and stuff. But he was a Clown with no empathy and no Rules at all. And when i saw the film 1 time. I enjoyed his performance on screen and also how angry he is in his role. Nobody could top Ledger’s Talent or his performance off better then Himself. It was a great film, And i enjoyed his Talent, Keep up the good work Heath Ledger. Your role as The Joker is just fantastic.
Robert England as Freddy Krueger was fantastic in the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. His role and acting is just top Notch. Plus i like how he played in the film Freddy vs Jason. It’s just fantastic to see him as scary as he is in the original films. Robert England is awesome. I like his films a Lot!!!
The Oscar was designed by an art director named Cedric Gibbons. He worked on so many movies, I find myself looking for his name whenever I watch movies on Turner. I’m sure he had artists working for him but, his name was in the credits. He passed away in 1960 and is buried in Los Angeles.
I thougth,OSCAR,was the Fairbanks battler !
