10 Things to do to make summer fun

Do you long for the days when you could enjoy two months off in the summer? Just because you’re out of school and now an adult, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the summer and bring out your inner child.

If you’ve been feeling a little too grown up lately the following are 10 things that will make you remember what it’s like to feel like a kid again.

1.  Carnivals, fairs, and amusement parks.  Nothing better then spending the day eating corn dogs, smelling cotton candy, and riding thrilling roller coasters!

2.  When the temperatures start soaring, nothing feels better than running through a cold sprinkler, fountain or fire hydrant.

3. Go to the beach.  Swim in the water, build sand castles, play with a beach ball, sun-bathe and have LOTS of fun!

4.  Go rollerblading, swimming, biking, or skateboarding – anything you enjoy.

5.  If you hear the music from the ice cream truck, go and get some!

6.  Have a campfire and make s’mores.

7.  Windy day? Fly a kite!

8. Go camping in your backyard.  Sleep under the stars with your friends, and sing campfire songs or tell stories.

9.  Grab your water guns, water balloons, buckets, hoses and whatever you’ve got…and have a water FIGHT!

10. Go to the nearest park and have a picnic with your pals.  Ride the slides, hop on the swings, play Frisbee and take a whirl on the merry-go-round.

So what are some things that help you feel like a kid again?  Please leave a comment below.

  1. Great list! My favorite way to feel like a kid again in the summer is to bike everywhere I go. And enjoy all those great summery treats you loved when you were a kid: popsicles, ice cream cones, snow cones…

  22. if you don’t enjoy any of the things on the list anymore, surely there would be no point. It’s like with the pokemon games, it’s not that the old games were better, we have just become unable to enjoy games like we used to be able to. For example, choose 10 games from 1999 that we never even heard about when we were a kid, and put them against 10 games from today, we would probably enjoy all the ones from today more, so it’s not that the games were better, we just long to be like we once were…someone post here when they find a cure, although the Quran makes me doubt its possibility since the people we once were did things that made them who they are today, so if we found a way to be like we were before, it would be impossible without losing the knowledge we currently have, and then what, other than God’s protection, would stop us from going down the same road again?……

  25. My summer days would usually begin with watching the “Press Your Luck” game show.
Then, I’d head outside and play with my construction trucks and 4×4 Stompers, building imaginary roads and who knows what else.
Maybe I would take a break and head into the woods to smash some puff balls.
Wander on inside a little later for a Fla-vor-ice or two.
After lunch, head to the town pool for swimming, playing in the sand and having a Fun Dip.
Head back home later and enjoy a bbq with my family.

  27. 1 – with little or no money ones that are just as fun – walking a trail – 2 riding a mountain bike on a trail – 3 a nice picnic on or off a trail – 4 a hike – 5 a raft down a river or old inner tube with a cooler tyed to other innertube for beverages and snacks – or walk in a park

  28. I love to simply go camping, often with as little equipment I can get away with so that one night I can be on one site, and the next I can visit somewhere else and so on…you do not need a car for this and most places have a laundry room now so you do not need a caravan either lol

There is nothing better than pitching your tent at 6pm, going for a beer, getting up at 8am and then setting off somewhere else…and the stories you gather are amazing; and the information from other such people :)

  32. great ideas! Something fun i like to do is ride my bike. Ride it anywhere, take a friend or two and ride to a grocery store, Mcdonalds, Subway, Taco Bell, somewhere for a quick snack. Any mountains around? Hike all the way to the top, dont forget snacks and water! Be creative, and remember; you can always enjoy these activities with friends!

  33. Quite a great list you have there!
To make summer enjoyable, here are a few things I try to accomplish (when I’m not feeling lazy in the summer heat, that is).
    1. Meet new people! So you enjoy hanging out with the same old friends, but wish you could enjoy the company of someone new & interesting…
    2. Walk or bike everywhere you go! Yeah, you can see through car windows, but you see so much more when you’re going past it at a slower pace.
    3. Make-up new games! The same-old, same-old just doesn’t suffice anymore, so create a game to your liking and teach your new friends to play as well.
    4. Go somewhere you’ve never been before! It’ll create new memories that you wouldn’t have had if you traveled to familiar places. And, hey, if you get lost, you have the rest of summer to find your way back!
    5. Change your look! Cut your hair, try new make-up, switch up your clothing style and stun your friends and family with your new you.

This is how I stay busy and interested in the hot, summer months. I come back in September with a new look, new memories, and new friends. What could be better? :)

  34. GET ON A BIG BACKYARD TRAMPOLINE AND BOUNCE YOUR HEART OUT ! OR ,GET A MINI- TRAMPOLINE , A LOT LESS EXPENSIVE. YOU CAN USE IT IN THE HOUSE ,OR TAKE IT OUTSIDE . PLAY A RADIO, OR USE YOUR MP3 PLAYER OR CELL PHONE MUSIC , PUT ON YOUR EARPHONES, AND , I GUARANTEE, YOU WILL – FEEL LIKE A KID ! YOU WILL FEEL SOOO FREE! ! IT’S A GREAT WORKOUT, TOO. LOVE IT!! GO AHEAD, AND TRY IT !
P.S.- YOU -DON’T – HAVE TO BOUNCE HIGH. YOU CAN KEEP IT LOW. JUST BOUNCE AND LOVE THE FEELING !

  37. The ideas listed SOUND great – but there have been so many changes to these ideas in the 21st Century – for example: Very few carnivals, fairs, and amusement parks come our way. If they do, they are gone before you know about them. Our neighborhoods don’t waste water by turning up the hydrants, etc. Kids, don’t play in the streets. They are indoors, with the air condition high, working their thumbs to death with the current Xbox or Wii games. Lately, there have been so many fights at the water parks, and so-called beaches, that parents don’t take their kids. The ‘ice cream trucks’ these days are shadows for ‘the dope man’ who peddles ‘crack’, ‘weed’, and ‘pills’ to the little kiddies – big and small. The only place you’ll see a ‘campfire’ is in the indigent areas where the homeless gather to tell their stories, drink their alcohol, and provide a good fight for whoever is watching. Even going to the wonderful parks to watch a movie (Movie in the Park) or (Shakespeare in the Park) will get you a free-for-all fight among the jealous girls. It’s just not a place for families these days.

I know this sounds very disheartening – but in some cities, you cannot have a great time in the summer. The safest place you can be in INSIDE YOUR HOUSE. Stay out of the sun which will darken you, add melanoma to your host of other malodies in your body, or burn you to death! If you can – get out of the COUNTRY – visit somewhere else altogether.

  39. Take your kids to (appropriate kid) places you want to go to… they’ll have a great time and so will you :) The beach is one great option that never fails to make everyone happy.

  41. These ideas are great! To add a little twist to it, invite someone less fortunate than you. A child or children, a senior citizen or anyone from the neighborhood and share the experience. You may learn something totally unexpected, cause happiness in another and make a difference. Organize a “beach trash” pick up day with children from your local Boys and Girls Club and teach them the importance of the planet and all the living creatures that belong to it. Throw a dance party for them and dance your heart out. The adventures are limitless and sharing is the best part.

  47. Great if you can get it. I work weekends and street fairs only happen on Sat & Sun so that’s out. It hasn’t gotten warm enough to want to get wet around here. Beach has too much of an undertow/riptide–has been drowning people lately. Backyard is a jungle, plus we have a lot of racoons and possums. Picnics, well, if it would get warm enough that’s be nice but if you picnic like today, you’d have to wear a winter coat. And I have yet to see an ice cream truck in this town.

  48. That’s a fantastic list, but even I’m only a teenager, there’s no way for me to feel like a real kid anymore. That’s a shame. I’m unable to do that and I always feel like I’m too old for something like this. Well, at least I spent my whole summer holiday watching TV and worrying about the lessons. I went to the beach for 3 days but most of the time, I smelled my dad’s smoke. Oh well, that’s life.

  49. Here’s my list for… not being bored if you have to stay home all the time and unable to go anywhere:
    1. meditation (whatever you thinking, I’ve already known that I’m a freak)
    2. play piano, or any music instruments you can play or just listen to music
    3. watch your favorite movies
    4. read novels, let your soul goes into the story
    5. call friends (but sometimes that’s quite annoying)
    6. surf the net and submit your comments for something like I’m doing right now.
    7. do whatever you want but remember not to destroy or break anything because you would be very miserable

  53. Other suggestions:

    1. Walk barefoot. Doesn’t matter where, so long as you don’t injure yourself or get thrown out. Not recommended for extremely hot days, but can be fun on warm nights.

    2. Hunt down something you enjoyed when you were younger and relive it. Movies, music, TV shows, old video games, comic books or toys. Sometimes the magic can spark again – which is why I have an old NES hooked up to a litte TV, with a Legend of Zelda cart permanently inserted. ;)

    3. Go wandering. Pick a spot in your hometown or some nearby locale and just roam for a while. Doesn’t matter where. Combine with #1 if at all practicable.

  55. When I was a kid we used to sink to the bottom of the pool and sit around eachother and have a “tea party”. It still is fun to do and makes me feel like a kid again. Using your imagination while competing in holding your breathe.

  60. What I like to do is go puddle jumping. It rains a lot where I live, and the baseball field at my school is always flooding, so I’ll put on my rainboots with some friends and we’ll just go get soaked! It’s also fun to put ice cream and whatever else sounds good into a blender and see what smoothies and milkshake flavors you can make. :)
