National Karaoke Week

Every so often we like to blog about fun and zany holidays. We are all aware of the obvious ones, but we like to mix it up a bit.

National Karaoke Week is celebrated the fourth week of April. How is it celebrated? Easy! You go out and sing or even better, purchase a karaoke machine.

For all you fans, we all know this can be quite embarrassing or an entertaining hobby. Karaoke has been around for over 40 years. As you may have guessed, the first Karaoke machine was developed back in 1971 in Japan. Since then it has spread to other parts of the world.

Now a popular fad in the US, Karaoke is seen more in bars and the list of songs just keeps on growing. So you tell us, what’s your favorite song to sing? Whether it’s a classic or new one, what song do you love to perform on stage?

Thanks for reading,

  9. “Baby Got Back” – Everyone sings along when this one comes on. Once, when I got off of the elevator at work, I turned to a co-weoker and said “Oh my God…” and the nurses all started to sing “…Becky, look at her butt…” and we all broke out in song. It was very amusing, but a bad thing because it was 5am.

  72. My favorite is Yakkity Yak. Because I am rather elderly, I suspect the (much younger) audience thinks I am going to sing something out of the19th century. So I tell them, “I am so happy to see so many beautiful young people here tonight. You remind me of my own dear beloved young people, so I am going to tell you the same life wisdom I have told them…” then the music starts, and I start screaming “Take out those papers and that trash/ Or you don’t get no spending cash/ Just tell your hoodlum friends outside/ You ain’t got time to take a ride…Yakkity yak.” The audience gets a good laugh out of that.

  77. None. No song.
My opinion is that unfortunately most of these people, not all, but most, have no respect for their neighbors rights to peace and quiet with the volume so loud. Do they think if they do it full volume they somehow sound better ? Just the opposite, it makes you sound much worse. I don’t know why they cannot close the doors and windows in their house and just entertain themselves and their friends. It is not fun for your neighbors. I am all for anyone singing if you want to, that should be your choice and right. But your neighbors have rights also. A little common courtesy goes a long way. Thank you.

  160. Karaoke’s Not that Fun (Carry on Wayward Son)

    Karaoke’s not that fun
People laugh when you are done
Put your weary voice to rest
Don’t you try no more…. NO!

    (Guitar Instrumental)

    AhHhhhh……..

Once you tried it ‘cuz it looked so amusing,
Sounded horrible and the people were booing
You tried to sing “Eye of the Tiger”
    Couldn’t sing that high!
I can’t remember when I’ve had such a lame time
You couldn’t read the words and sing at the same time
    And the audience was screaming
    I could hear them say…

    Karaoke’s not that fun
People laugh when you are done
Put our weary ears to rest
Don’t you try no more…. NO!

    (Guitar Instrumental)

You sang “La Bamba” and you sang “Locomotion”
You jumped around like you were having convulsions
And if you think it sounds alright man
It surely means that you don’t know!
You sang some “country” and you sang some “Grease” now
You wouldn’t stop & so they’re calling the police now
‘Cuz you’re disturbing the peace now
Can’t you hear the people say? ……

    Karaoke’s not that fun
People laugh when you are done
Put our bleeding ears to rest
Don’t you try no more…. NO!

    (Guitar Instrumental)

    Karaoke!
    And now everyone’s leaving.
    Karaoke!
‘Cuz you’re so bad at singing.
Now the place is almost empty
And its all because of you!!

    Karaoke’s not that fun
People laugh when you are done
Put your weary voice to rest
    Don’t you try… Don’t you try… no mooOoOre!!!

    AhHhhhh……..

  424. Fallen Slowly by Kris Allen/Glen Hansard
    VERSE
I don’t know you, but I want you.
    All the more, for that.
    Words fall through me,
    And always fool me.
    And I can’t react.
    And games, that never amount
    To more then their meant
    Will play themselves, out
    CHORUS
    Take this sinking boat
    And point it home
    We still got time
    Raise your hopeful voice,
    You have a choice
    You’ll make it, now
    VERSE
Falling slowly, eyes that know me
    And I can’t go back
And moods that take me, and erase me
    And I’m painted black

Well, that’s half the song. :)

  430. My favorite to sing is probably “(I Won’t Say) I’m in Love” from Disney’s Aladdin!! But ya know, “Luck be a Lady” by Frank Sinatra and “Fuck You” by Cee-Lo are just oodles of fun, as well.
Except, honestly, I don’t think I would save the singing for karaoke night; you can’t even count how many times I break out into song on a daily basis. And most likely, they’ll be amongst these. Hehehe
