Question: How do you get rid of the hiccups?
Episode 11 Winner
Congrats to Venus: Merry Christmas for the best answer to Episode 11’s question, Where did kissing under the mistletoe come from?
I think it originated in Scandinavia.
It probably began with a Love story passed down from generation to generation.
MISTLETOE LOVE STORY
Two Lovers had to sneak away into the woods to see each other.
There, they could kiss underneath the Mistletoe without anyone knowing.
When the girl’s parents found out, they forbid her to leave their home alone.
Her Lover managed to send a message to her. He said that they would run away to be together. He told her that he would make the preparations for their elopement.
When everything was ready, he would leave a sprig of Mistletoe on her window ledge.
At that time, she should run into the woods to meet him.
The night finally came and she found the sprig of Mistletoe on her ledge.
She climbed out her window and escaped into the night.
She ran to the Forest and found her Lover there waiting for her.
They embraced and kissed underneath the Mistletoe.
Then, together, they vanished into the night.
And they lived Happily Ever After.

This is hard to explain but it works Every time.
You need a short water glass and a spoon
put the spoon into the (1/2-3/4 full) water glass, then place the spoon into the glass, then drink down the water with the spoon handle resting/pressing against your cheek.
It is simple and works every time.
I don’t know why, and it’s not scientific, but I do know that I have won many a bets in pubs with this method
When i have the hiccups i drink a glass of water while holding my breath for a little bit-it always works for me
I get a large glass of water with a straw, hold my earlobes in my ears and drink in big gulps. I know it sounds funny but it works everytime for me
LMAO I love the little kid at the end he made me lol!
For me, holding my breath as long as possible (almost) always works.
apparently you are meant to ask them ‘whens the last time you saw a white horse?’ and the person has to think about their answer properly seriously it works, i done it to my friend and she stopped
to make me stop i have breath softly and calm down and relax
I have always had success eating a spoonful of sugar. I get the hiccups frequently at work, and we always have sugar handy for the naaaasty office coffee, so it’s convenient AND successful!
The little kid at the end is sooo funny. Well, he’s right after all. Happy Holidays Everyone!
I can make myself burp so what I do is make my self burp the same time I hiccup it stops it instantly.
if you make yourself burp, your hiccups will go away.
This sounded weird when I first heard it but it worked and I was shocked. Take a glass of water, put a paper towel over it and sip water through the paper towel. I did this and they were gone, I had tried everything before that LOL.
There are so many ways to stop the hiccups such as;
1) Have a teaspoon of sugar, and place it at the back of your tongue
Breathing into a paper bag
2) Put your fingers in your ears
3) Get scared
4) Drink water
5) Pull on your tongue
6) Tickling the soft palate of the roof of your mouth with a cotton swab
7) Hold your breath as long as possible
9) Take an Antacid
10) Eat Slower
11) Don’t overload the stomach
12) Avoid spicy food
13) Drink in moderation
The most practical ways to do in everywhere would be number #4 and #7 but personally i think that number #4 is a way to go.
(p/s: almost everyone in the world drink water when they have hiccups before they know the other tips on the internet)
Here’s one that’s never failed for me:
Hold a wooden pencil in tour teeth (crosswise, so it sticks out both sides of your mouth). While holding your nose, drink ten swallows of water and the hiccups will be gone. That’s it. It sounds weird, but try it and see.
When I have the hiccups, I get some water in my mouth and then I hang my head upside down off the edge of the bed and swallow the water (a.k.a. swallowing water upside down.) it works every time!
I have two:
1) Hold your breath for a few seconds (perhaps 10 or 30) while pinching the area between your thumb and index finger of either hand.
2) Swallow a spoonful of sugar.
I HAVE NO CLUE HOW TO GET RID OF THE HICCUPS! PLEASE HELP, I AM DESPARATE
Suck on a lemon slice, i don’t know why but i works!!
you hold your breathe for a long time
Drink water ,nonstop for like 1 minute or 2.
no other method has worked for me, but when i suck on a spoon full of sugar, it always works.
but thats just me :p
Fold a paper towel 2-3 times and drink about 5 gulps of water through it, works great.
You take a glass of water and a straw and bend over and drink the water through the straw! I learned this from Dr. Oz, and it creates opposite movement of the muscles used to hiccup. Works every time.
When you focus on hiccups, that is what causes your hiccups to disapear. For example all these steps and logics people have, actually the procedure of making the hiccups vanish is what you are focusing on.
e.x.
Put a lemon slice in ur mouth.(You focus on how bitter the lemon slice feels.)
ex. Asking the last time you saw a white horse.(You focus on your memory)
So technically it is when you don’t focus on the hiccups that makes them disapear.
You should either suddenly through a glass of water on person who has hiccups, or would give a tight slap.
I take a teaspoon of peanut butter and just eat it really slow. works like a charm
Normally , when I get episode of hiccups, I take few sips of water, and hold my breath it works fine.
In persons with severe episode I simply divert their mind e.g Your Boss gave me a call asking of your medical category etc. but one has to be really tactful.
After reading various answers, those guys are using techniques which require high degree of precision and to be performed in ER or under supervision of medical personal.
There is a last resort when all fails, cut off the Phrenic nerve.
:O))
Stick your tongue out as far as you can. It relaxes the muscles and the hiccups go away every time.
Easy. Just stare at something for 10-15 seconds and they will go away.
The official cure recognized by the AMA is a teaspoon of sugar sucked on. Don’y try it if you are diabetic.
hold your breath and at the same time, swallow water, coke, spit, etc. atleast 3 times in a row, if you can, go for 5 swallows, then breath again, and the hiccups shouldnt be there anymore
just eat a big spoon a peanut butter works every single time garunteed
The method I find that works for me is to pull air in through my mouth, hold it for a few seconds, and then push the air out through my nose.
I swear this works. Done it plenty times and it helped my friends and family too. Bend over with your head facing the ground, drink some water in this position. Bit uncomfortable, I know. stay down for a few seconds, get up and your hiccups will be gone.
1. Fill a glass with cool water.
2. Put a butter knife in with the handle end in the glass.
3. Hold your breath.
4. Drink the whole glass or as much as you can while resting the blade on your forehead.
5. No more hiccups!
It works EVERY time for some weird reason
lol
Well…this works for me every time…all you have to do is…hold your breath for thirty seconds…I think you get too scared about your breath and focus on that…and the hiccups just stop!
From my younger days, much younger, as a bartender, as it always worked. A slice of lime with a couple drops of bitters on it. Squeez the lime juice and bitters into your mouth.
- Repeated swallowing works for mild cases. Do this by holding your breath and repeatedly swallowing as fast as you can, or by slowly drinking down a beverage with as many swallows as is possible. It’s important that you hold your breath for as many gulps as you can. Placing a napkin over a glass of water can help moderate your speed.
). What? They don’t have hiccups? Do it anyway!
- Plug your nose and ears then swallow 20 times as fast as possible.
- If you notice a friend has a case of hiccups, it is believed that your can ‘scare’ them away. Sneak up on them and give ‘em a good jolt (Be careful though
- Relax, sit still and breathe in deep, slow, rhythmic breaths expanding and contracting your lungs completely.
- Distract yourself. Sing a song, go over your 7 times tables (7 x 1 = 7, 7 x 2 = 14, etc) until the hiccups are gone,
- Exhale completely and hold your breath for as long as possible.
- Squawk like a chicken while flapping your arms and bobbing your head as if you were pecking at something. Bugawk!
- Laugh. Think of something funny, or do something funny – see above.
- Eat a tablespoon of peanut butter.
- Stand on your head and drink small gulps of water from a sports bottle.
- Exaggerate your hiccups by inhaling right as you hiccup – this will result in a long and loud “huuuaaagggghhh” that’ll either be funny or embarrassing depending on your environment, but after 2-4 of these the hiccups should be gone.
- Take a shot of lemon juice.
- Let a teaspoon of sugar dissolve under your tongue.
- Think of the ugliest person you’ve ever seen. Now picture them naked, rolling naked down a hill or riding a bike and slathered in A-1 steak sauce.
This technique never fails when have used it. Take a glass of water, lay backwards and sip it with your head upside down. Was taught to me by a DR use to live near – and it has never failed to work. He would use either this technique or sucking on a spoon full of sugar. One or the other never fails so said he… and the upside down water drinking has always worked for me and my friends. The upside down technique would not be safe with someone too young, too old or disabled. For this the spoon full of sugar would be safer as long as they are not diabetic.
Drink water upside down!
bend over and slowly drink a cup of water.
Drink water every time that you don’t hiccup. Breathe in deeply and exhale. After a few minutes, your hiccups will be gone!
it is actually pretty simple, you just drink some water while holding your breath then its gone, works every times for me.
Take CaCo3 with sugar ( 2 tums) and a glass of water. This neutralizes and dilutes the acid in your stomach. It will not work every time on everyone but it works on many people. It may work a little better than a spoon of sugar.
a spoonful of sugar may help the medicine go down, but it also instantly cures the hiccups.
I just let them run their course.
drink more and more water…………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
Eat Peanut Butter upside down. Works EVERY time!!
Try TO hiccup at a cetain time. Such as i will hiccup at exactly 10:10 and then try to do it. You will fail and then not hiccup
Don’t hold your breath but do the opposite instead. Take in as much oxygen as you can in one go, exhale, and keep doing it. Try it! I’ve done this all the time and the hiccups stopped, no need for spoons, no need for pinching, no need for pain.
breath when I get the hiccups I notice it’s because I stopped breathing if you restart you breathing they uassally go away.
I know how to get rid of hiccups…..I lost all the money BOOO!!!!That scares the crap out of em and the hiccups are gone!!! That one never fails me.Scare em unless they have a health condition. The surgar thing works too.
You have to relax your diaphragm, so you need to swallow as much as you can. That is why people recommend you drink water, as it is much easier to swallow when you have something to swallow. However, you have to do the physical swallowing motion more than you normally would as you drink, because that is what is actually going to relax your diaphragm and stop it from having spasms.
The best way is to hold your breath as much intolerably as possible.Okay, so if even then it does not work-it sort of turns into religious fanaticism.Well,if it does not work you have tried halfheartedly.
I always drink a glass of water upside down. Has never failed. I stand up bend all the way over then drink the water.
bend over and drink 11 sips of water
just divert ur mind and think abt something else whenever u r suffering from hiccups.
try to talk to someone else
plug your ears or have someone plug your ears with they’re fingers wait a minute keeping ears plug drink alittle water and keeping ears plug wait a minute or two that works most of the time
YOU HAVE TO DRINK A HUUUUUGE GULP OF WATER UPSIDE DOWN. THE COUCH WORKS BEST BY PUTTING LEGS ON BACK OF COUCH AND HEAD HANGING TO FLOOR, BUT BENDING OVER WILL DO THE TRICK TOO. DRINK IT ALL IN ONE BIG GULP. you can thank me later !
You need to increase the amount of nitrogen in your blood. Anything that involves holding your breath for an extended period of time will accomplish this, such as drinking something or just straight-up holding your breath.
Hold your big toes for a few seconds, while holding your breath and the hiccups will be gone.
Well if you drink a glass of water but hang your head upside down and THEN swallow, they’ll go away. It actually works!!!
How do you get rid of hiccups?
TRY ONE OF THESE SIMPLE STEPS
1) Sawallow 1/4 teaspoon of peanut butter. (If you are not allergic to peanut butter)
2) Try a forced sneezing by putting some thing in your nose (a cotton thread, or thin paper stripe)
This works for me every single time:
Plug your nose and take one sip of water out of a glass.
It has never failed me.
I hold my breath for as long as possible. Someone also said one time that I need to “push on my diaphragm” while holding my breath. This works when just holding my breath doesn’t.
Mine is going to sound really stupid, but it totally works.
Stick your tounge out, as far as you can.
The hicups disapear!
eat a big spoonful of peanut butter! works every time.
A full tablespoon of sugar makes the hiccups go away EVERY time
Two tablespoons of vinegar. Stops them every time.
This works for me and other people I’ve showed every time.
Drink a glass of water and plug your ears! Generally you’re going to need assistance though, someone who plugs your ears for you or holds the glass.
Treat yourself to something tasty (maybe cookies or ice cream). You’ll forget about it and they’ll be gone by the time you finish!
Swallow as much as you can while holding your breath and focus on one object. Do this until you can’t hold your breath any longer.
OMG! That preview picture of the video made me LOL! SHe looked like a clown!!
eat a spoonful of peanut butter
When I get the hiccups, I always drink water (not swallowing it) then turn my head upside down. After that, I swallow the water. It works for me every time.
This works almost every time and it’s hilarious when it does!
You have to say : “I am not a fish.” Very slowly!
I don’t know what it is about it but it works 9 times out of 10! And it comes in handy if you’re in your car (or anywhere else) and you can’t get to any water or sugar or anything else!
The Somali way is to scare the person who has hiccups. You ask them, “What did you steal?” and they’ll be shocked and answer. After that they’ll automatically lose their hiccups. It works everytime. Somali’s have been using this method since 1900′s. Wa Salam.
wat i do is hold my nose 4 10 seconds
I always drink a glass of water upside down. You get a small glass, so it will form a tight seal around your mouth and chin when you put your mouth on the far side of the cup. Then you bend all the way over and drink the water in gulps. You will look stupid, but I swear it works every time!
A lot of people tell you to drink a whole glass of water or hold your breath to get rid of hiccups. However, those are only parts of the real treatment for hiccups.
I found this treatment for hiccups in an old natural remedies book.
You’ll need a glass of water and some walking space.
Instructions:
Start walking slowly, pacing the room. Take small sips of water. With each sip of water, breathe in and then breathe out. The pattern goes like, breathe in, sip, breath out, sip, breath in, sip and so on.
It’s the fastest method of getting rid of hiccups I’ve used with a 100% success rate.
If the hiccups are harder than usual, you have to hold your breath for a while with every sip.
Hiccups are caused by the twitching of the diaphragm. It’s believed that distracting yourself will stop your brain from sending neuro signals to your diaphragm, stopping your hiccups.
When you have the hiccups, think of pineapples. Your hiccups will vanish. I read about this a while back, and I didn’t believe it. But the next time I got the hiccups, I thought of pineapples. Visualized them as strongly as I could, focused on nothing but pineapples. I was surprised to find that it actually worked. MLIA
I plug/cover my ears and drink a glass of water through a straw or someone gives it to you. works for me.
Mix water lemon juice and any juice in a small cup..drink untill gone
Get some one to cover your ears so you cant hear any thing then drink down a glass of water then your hiccups will go
A tablespoon of molasses works everytime for me
First I eat a big spoonful of peanut butter as fast as I can and without waiting I chug down a large glass of water upside down without breathing! Works every time and it’s a pretty good workout too! Hahah
jst stop ur breath for a minute or two…it ll stop after that
Take a tablespoon of red wine vinegar.
a shot glass of apple cider vinegar straight down the hatch works like magic.
Okay, my uncle did this really wierd thing with my ears… He like rubbed my ear lobes around… i dont know why but it really worked, then the next time i had hiccups i had my sis rub my ear lobes ( for 30 secs) and it worked again it was sooooo wierd! But, you need someone around to do so..
Put some water in a glass. This is tricky – drink from the opposite side of the glass upside down. You will have to bend over forward to drink from the glass. That is why you are upside down. It does work every time.
i think they go away when someone scares you or you –get– scared lolz, works for me EVERY!!!time.:) this sounds strange and abnormal doesn’t it
oh well, at least i tried.!~~~
Whenever I get the hiccups, I don’t need anything but air.
See, whenever you get them, wait for your body to hiccup, and THEN hold your breath for 5, 6 seconds. It’ll go away instantly.
for some reason, this works for me:
i use reverse reverse-psychology on myself. since im extremely unlucky, if i want something to stop, it wont. so to reverse this, i tell myself i WANT the hiccups to stay, and i tell myself i am mad that they didnt keep going. they stop, every time.
it sounds stupid, but it works for me! maybe because i believe it will work, it does. things like that happen.
O.k If you have the hiccups yake a cup of water and dink ten DROPS breathing normally.! It always works ALWAYS! So dont knock it till you try it… If your deserate you will try and this method is really effective
Hope this helps ;D
Eat a spoon of peanutbutter.
Hiccups are cured one way, that is, by stimulating the vagus nerve.
This is done by swallowing, pulling on your tongue, drinking a glass of water slowly, pulling on an earlobe, eating a spoon of sugar, etc., and so on.
Simply put, one of the functions of the vagus nerve, among others, is to regulate and control inner body muscle movement. When hiccups occur, stimulating this nerve will “re-set” the muscle of the diaphragm and thereby stop those annoying contractions called hiccups.
This is why every sure-fire cure of hiccups really does work, that is, if performing that particular “cure” will actually stimulate that nerve for that individual. It may not.
i take 2 and a half sips of water and then stop breath immediately. this works !
My supervisor, cured mine by glaring at me and asking in a serious tone, What did you steal, with a steal glare. I stopped hiccuping after that, I was in shock I said what do you mean STEAL, I’D never STEAL. Then my supervisor started to laugh and said, I know that what her friends use to get rid of hiccups.
I know this hard, but try to relax. Hiccuping is caused by the diaphragm and air trapped. Relaxing by watching or listening to something soothing.
http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/181573.php
Alcohol is a leading cause of hiccups so if you have them it might be a good idea to avoid.
I didn’t read all the way through, so I don’t know if anyone else has said this, but a tablespoon of peanut butter has worked EVERY time for me.
I tell someone that I have the hiccups, and they say prove it. I then try to prove it by waiting for another hiccup but it never comes.
Try this by cranking up the volume all the way and play the scary maze game and put ur face right on the computer screen
))))
Pour 1 glass of water and drink it 9 times separately, this is our good old family tradition of get rid of hiccups!
after the first hiccup, you have to fill your lungs completely with air, just take a HUGE breath, and hold it until you feel pressure in your lungs (no more than 5 seconds), after that it should be gone.
just let the hiccups alone! they will eventually leave: sugar, peanut butter, lemon, up-side down, etc all that is crap. if you thirsty, yes drink water but don’t add any toxins to your body just because the body is reacting naturally to rid itself of something. hiccups are not a disease, what you do to get rid of them could and you into trouble, big time. just think about it! Merry Christmas!
This is helpful, because yesterday I got the hiccups six times at different times spread out through the day. It wasn’t always so often so now I have to go to a doctor because of them. I mean yes these might get rid of them, but for me they just come back!
The spoonful of sugar remedy pretty much works ALL the time. Sugar has some sort of “calming” effect on the stomach. If you look at the over-the-counter medication called “Emetrol” for vomiting, you’ll notice that it’s phosphorylated dextrose, a type of sugar.
For some odd reason though, whenever I recommend the “sugar trick” people are really hesistant because they think sugar is going to kill them. Suggest it, if they don’t believe it, let them continue with their hiccups…
A spoonful of sugar; simple, but effective. It scratches your throat as it goes down, relieving you from hiccups with in seconds.
The Italian way requires taking 10 small sips of water without breathing.
Works every time.
Putting ice cubes against the right or left side of my neck cures my hiccups. This helps slow down stimulation by the vagus nerve. Which stops the hiccups.
This works EVERYTIME. Whether I had the “drunk” hiccups or otherwise….I take a deep breath, then take a sip of WHATEVER is handy without releasing the breath hold, take another sip, breath hold,DONOT release the breath hold,do this for 5 sips, and on the last sip hold your breath for as long as you can,I try to hold for 10-15 secs, then you slowly exhale……hiccups GONE!
Swallow air.I know it sounds silly but it works.
I drink 2 full glasses of H2O. Works every time.
ou simply stare into another persons eyes and say… You wanna hear me hiccup? And you have to be true to your feelings and expect to give them what they want to hear.
Why, yes! I would love to hear you hiccup! The 2 of you must be extremely ready to give and receive the hiccup. Both parties must pay attention, if one doubt’s the other it wont work.
It has worked for me all my life and have passed it on to others…
Hey, you wanna hear me hiccup? Do ya… Ready, hear comes… Listen, ready, pay attention!! and watch. Here it is!! and… Bam!!! there gone!
I know it sounds odd but, next time grab somebody, anybody and both do as I have said. Just be serious about it and your hiccup troubles will be a problem of the past. As long as your not alone…lol
hold your breath for as long as you can, and right before you feel like you HAVE to breath, take a drink of water. it works every time!
Drink water from the opposite side of the glass…that always helps me. I don’t think it’s the drinking as much as it is the coordination it takes – which gets your mind off the hiccups. Hiccups are just a diaphragm spasm – like any other muscle spasm. The other thing that always works for me is taking a deep breath (to stretch the diaphragm) and then let it out very slowly – in quick bursts – as you count backward from 20 to 0. This is kind of like stretching the muscle so it stops spasming.
I used to have chronic hiccups every day when I was a teen until my mid 20s. The method I used and still use today is really simple: Just walk into a pitch dark room or closet, stay in there for 30 seconds or more, and almost always the hiccups go away. Has worked for me for over 30 years, and everyone I’ve told who tried it. Pitch dark is best, a room with night lights or other light doesn’t seem to work.
Drink water and/or hold your breath. DUH!
I didnt think this would work but I had hiccups the other day so i tried what a friends suggested. Its reeealy wierd!
okay Imagine a beach. Imagine a horse galloping across the bech and into the shallow waves. Imagine t turning back at looking at you.
Yeah.. then they should be gone.
get a drink of water swallow with your tongue sticking out. works like a charm
freaky. i have hiccups and just went on yahoo answers, and right there is ‘how to get rid of hiccups.’
Drink a glass of juice while pinching your nose. Works every time ;P
P.S.: It only works with juice…don’t know why, though
just dont think about them then they go away
Drink a tall glass of *water*!
Hold your breath for EXACTLY 21 seconds, even if you hiccup while holding your breath. Immediately take 21 teeny, tiny sips of water. This has never failed for me, but they usually come back in about 1 – 1 1/2 hours, so just do it again if they do.
Easy! My mom’s trick of getting rid of hiccups by drinking 7 gulps of water really fast. Hiccups? Gone!
Place a teaspoon upside down under your tongue, and take a couple of swallows of water from a glass while the spoon is under your tongue. It’s difficult, and you may get a little water down your shirt, but it works for me EVERY TIME.
Since grade school I kid did some research on hiccups and i remember him saying to hold your breath. There are many solutions but since everyone is different not everything will work. For example i was also told you can drink a lot of water but that never works for me. If i hold my breath until im almost blue in the face, that is what always gets rid of them for me. If you hiccup while you’re holding your breath then you have to start over so the trick is to hold your breath without hiccupping until you can hold your breath anymore and that always cures them for me but again it might not work for everyone.
Take a drink, but don’t swallow. With the water in your mouth, bend at your waist so that you are standing on the ground, but your head is upside down. Swallow.
It always works for me.
Try to think of 8 famous BALD celebrities….really concentrate, and your hiccups will be gone!
Seriously, it works!
Drink water while holding your breath, to the count of 10. Count(in your head)at a medium speed. I know this sounds like a joke, but I was told this remedy years ago and I have never had it fail me. Sometimes you will need to do it twice, but it will work.
What I do, and it works everytime for me. May not work for all.
What I do is I fill a glass full of water, or any drink for that matter. doesnt have to be water. Then I put the cup over my mouth ready to drink, but I bend over, and drink it while Im bent over with my head upside down. Sounds stupid, but if it works, then I dont care. Hiccuping hurts my chest, so Ill do whatever to get rid of it.
Do a complicated math problem in your head.
I used to always use 78 x 35, but then the answer kept on coming too readily. It’s gotta be one you have to really think about.
Like 8^6.3
When she was little, my mother had hiccups for 3 days straight, and no matter what she tried, they never went away. Then a man told her to have a teaspoon of white vinegar. She swallowed a the vinegar (must not have been nice), and they instantly went away. She hasn’t ever had hiccups since that day.
I either take a spoonful of sugar or hold my breath as long as I can.. sometimes I have to do it more than once in order for it to work though.
It always works for me if you ask someone their mothers maiden name and if that doesn’t work ask them if they had a horse what would you name it and what color it would be… just pointless questions that make no sense! it gets them thinking and the hiccups go away :p
drink from a glass of water by having your head upside down (like you’re trying to touch your toes) and drink from the glass from the side that is farthest from you.
This is guaranteed to work if you do it right. My highschool anatomy teacher explained why one time but highschool was years ago and don’t exactly remember the why but it DOES work
I had hiccups for 3 1/2 months, nothing I did or the doctors did got ride of them, until, I went to the Mayo Clinic in MN for my neurological condition and was put on neurontin and the hiccups stops! I was so happy I cried, but now if I get the hiccups I just hold my breath or drink a glass of watter upside down and they’re gone!
Try this! Breath in slowly for 4 seconds and breath out for 4 seconds and you will now noticed that the hiccups are gone.
Hiccups, some form of muscle contraction? Motrin.
My Geography teacher taught me this:
You hold out your pointing finger (index finger) and pinch it with your other index finger and thumb. I don’t know how it works but it does.
Hope I helped.
One day i had them and a simple yawn took mine away true no lie!!!!!!
The best solution to stop Hiccups is two glasses of water and one tea spoon of honey
I have tried ‘drinking upside down’, distraction (by being asked questions about an imaginary bunny), holding your breath (only seems to work if done after the very first hiccup, if u’ve gone past the first one it doesn’t seem to work), pressure point in ear, and other various attempts … but the only thing that seems to work every single time for everyone is eating a spoonful of peanut butter. I have tried many things which worked once or twice, but the p.b. seems to work everytime!
Hold your breath, drink water upside down, make yourself sneeze, or have someone scare you!
Take a glass of water, cover it with a napkin or paper towel, and then drink the water through the paper towel. works everytime
drink a glass of water with a paper towel over the top of the cup! it works every time for me!
Bend Over , And Drink A Cup Of Water Backwards
You just eat a spoon full of penutbutter,
eat a tablespoon of sugar. Works everytime.
First taking a teaspoon of vinegar, then drinking water in an unorthodox manner,(leaning over and drinking from the opposite side or drinking a full glass through a paper towel, holding one’s breath and altering one’s breathing patterns)
Or
I just drink a small glass of water upsidedown.
Yes, it can be done easier than you think, just lean against the wall while someone helps you.
1) Take ten swallows of water without stopping, (no breaths in between swallows drinking continuously the ten swallows),
2) and then take a deep breath and hold your breath while counting slowly to ten.
This has worked for me everytime, and for anyone else that I gave the advice to.
# Repeated swallowing works for mild cases.
# Plug your nose and ears then swallow 20 times as fast as possible.
# If you notice a friend has a case of hiccups, it is believed that your can ‘scare’ them away. Sneak up on them and give ‘em a good jolt (Be careful though
# Relax, sit still and breathe in deep, slow, rhythmic breaths expanding and contracting your lungs completely.
# repeatedly swallowing Distract yourself. Sing a song, go over your 7 times tables (7 x 1 = 7, 7 x 2 = 14, etc) until the hiccups are gone,
# Exhale completely and hold your breath for as long as possible.
# Squawk like a chicken while flapping your arms and bobbing your head as if you were pecking at something. Bugawk!
# Laugh. Think of something funny, or do something funny – see above.
# Eat a tablespoon of peanut butter.
# Stand on your head and drink small gulps of water from a sports bottle.
# Exaggerate your hiccups by inhaling right as you hiccup – this will result in a long and loud “huuuaaagggghhh” that’ll either be funny or embarrassing depending on your environment, but after 2-4 of these the hiccups should be gone.
# Take a shot of lemon juice.
# Let a teaspoon of sugar dissolve under your tongue.
# Think of the ugliest person you’ve ever seen. Now picture them naked, rolling naked down a hill or riding a bike and slathered in A-1 steak sauce.
1.Hold your breath for ten seconds while reclining or lying down.
2.Massage the upper, back part of the roof of your mouth
3.Drink a large glass of cold water quickly.
4.Breathe into a paper bag for a minute or two.
5.Eat a spoonful of sugar.
A shot of vinegar, might sound weird but it works instantly.
If you love the stuff then you will have no problem!
GET SCARED BY SOMEONE
Eat a heaping teaspoon of creamy peanut butter. When you’re done eating it, your hiccups will be gone. Works every time. It’s an old polish family remedy of ours.
This actually works.. get somebody to ask you what you ate for dinner last night, then the night before that, then the night before that.. trust me it works. i tried it on myself and other people.
well my neighbor taught me a trick that stops them on the spot.simply bend forward look up and take a sip of water, and they go away like they were never there!
Drink a medium amount of water then soon as your done with the drink, hold your breath. As you hold your breath, take another drink and breath normally. VOILA! Hiccups-A-Gone!
Only thing that has ever worked for me with really bad hiccups is standing on my head! This is fine if its in my house, slightly trickier in a public place…
i turn upside down in my couch (head on the couch, legs up on the wall) and drink water, it has NEVER failed me, NEVER
I worked at a nightclub and was faced with this problem with many customers. If you offer the person a dollar to hiccup, they won’t hiccup. I ask them to count to ten then hiccup: you can save some money because they will have time to think about it.
Think, really hard, about what color your hiccups are. I have absolutely no idea why, but it always works.
This thing has always worked with me and with everybody whom I told this trick –
…!
Just close your ears with your index fingers – no need to drink water while doing this or eat anything, just breathe normally and keep this position for about 30-35 seconds when you feel like they’ve gone.
Hope that helps
Put a paper bag over your nose and mouth, hold it tightly against your face so no air escapes. Then breathe in and out several times repeatedly.
The theory is that you will start breathing in your own exhaled CO2 which will counteract the hiccup.
Actually, i have found that NOT thinking of your hiccups and focusing hard on something else is what gets rid of them. Example: trying to remember last time you saw a white horse
I have two options to get rid of my hiccups;
lay on my couch upside down which rarely works or just simply suck in some air and hold my breath for as long as I could which actually works
Try this, when you have hic ups breath out untill you have no air in your lungs and then hold your breath untill you hic up again. This forces your body to accept that you cannot hic up. It works every time for me. After doing this you need to relax and breath slowly.
I once had the hiccups for 8 straight days and I’ve tried everything listed here. Some have worked for a little while, but they eventually lost their effectiveness.
What I use now is Rose’s Lime Juice. It’s available in liquor stores and is made by the same people who make Tequila Rose. All I need is a swig and my hiccups are gone.
Also, the longer you have hiccups, the harder they are to get rid of, so whatever you do, do it as soon as you know you have them.
Hold your breath,
Synthlover approves!
Just eat a spoon full of peanutbutter (unless your alergic) that has never failed to cure my hiccups
I have personal experience it works every time. If you some one is undergoing the spell of hick ups, ask him a question which shocks him / her e.g How did you get that dent in the car? Or why died you called names to so and so. The hickups would be gone immediately.
drink a teaspoon of vinegar.
or
block your ears and drink a glass of water at the same time
SAY YOUR MIDDLE NAME LOUDLY
you take a deep breath now,
hold your breath and “just swallow”. while you bend your head and neck down. And rest your chin on your upper chest. “while you hold your breath” swallow, repeat until hiccups stop. This can be done while you sit or stand.
it’s OK if you want to bend over forward at the waist.
you may do what is most comfortable to & for you.
starting now.
Don’t think about them.
tell two people you are going fishing
What i do is drink water and hold my nose at the same time.
It always works a charm
Just drink a plenty of water they will go away immediately. Trust me.
Sugar, Peanut butter, Water.
Always work for me
you can stop your hiccups by holding your breath for sometimes as long as you can tolerate it. then it will be gone.
Get a bottle of soda drink a little but keep it open in your mouth but keep the drink from going in your mouth and it stops the hiccups
I asked my grandfather the same question many years ago when I was 9. He said he didn’t know and as I turned away, he spooked me. And the hiccups went away.
Everytime i get the hiccups i take a glass of water take a sip of it without swallowing it and bend over in a chair with my head between my legs and swallow the water. come up slowly. It works everytime!
honestly this might sound gross (its honestly not that bad though)
My mums family has a secret to get rid of your hicups instantly.
take a spoon, put some sugar on it, then put some vinegar on it (like i said sounds gross, but rly its not so bad)
wait for your next hicup, then swallow the sugar and vinegar and voila hicup free, works everytime
This has worked 100% for everyone I have suggested it to.
I get the look like I grew a “third eye” but it works.
Take a big glass of water. And put a single straw in it. TAke a deep breath – plug your ears with you fingers (set the glass on a table or have someone hold it for you) and keep drinking until you can’t drink anymore (e.g. until you HAVE to take a big breath).
THIS WORK EVERYTIME
1) GET A GLASS OF WATER, SIP IT UP BUT DO NOT! DRINK OR SWALLOW IT.
2) TILT YOU HEAD UPWARDS AND DRINK IT (NO MAGIC) PUT YOU HEAD BACK DOWN AND BURP (lol)
IF IT IS A GOOD A “WHOLESOME BURP” IT SHOULD WORK!
GOOD LUCK!!!
There are 2 ways that always work for me.
1) Squeeze your ear lobe. (I know it sounds weird but it works. If it doesn’t get rid of it completely, it will dramatically decrease the intensity and/or frequency of it).
2) Take 10 small swallows of something. (It doesn’t matter what it is you drink. Just take 10 very small sips in a row). If it doesn’t go away immediately, take another 10 swallows and it should most likely be gone.
Ok, guys, I got something very practical, yet hard to explain how it works.
One method is to stick the index finger backwards between the ear and the head. Like architects used to hold their pencils (at least in my country) a while ago. Then softly put some pressure on the ear, as to press the finger harder against the head. A couple of seconds. It has worked with most people I’ve told it to.
The other one is to hold both hands in front of the stomach (bending the arms 90 degrees), as if praying or expecting something divine to fall from the sky. Both arms hanging straight and each elbow by each side of the trunk.
I really hope you understand my explanation. I’ve never understood how they worked. Might just be faith, but they’ve never failed, and since the first time I’ve never been in the need to count seconds or do anything troublesome, like drink water and stand upside down.
Let me know if it worked for you.
Love to all
Checo de la Cueva
(Mexico)
This like suprisingly works instantly!! get a sip of water in your mouth but dont swallow it yet and bend over and swallow it. TRY IT!! HAHA IT WORKS!!
I dont know how to get rid of hiccups. It goes away on its own when your trying to drink something.
simple and easy way – get a glass of water and have 15 sips, works every time!
All i have to say is drink water, drink lots of, it has always helped me & i read somewhere that hiccups are caused by dryness or dehydration somewhere in the body so it makes sense.
I saw the water and spoon method before, but I figured out how to get rid of the hiccups without the spoon. Stand bent over a little bit like at a 120 degree angle. Keep your head straight and lifted up, and sip on a glass of water. The hiccups should go away as you are drinking or before you even finish drinking the water.
do a handstand on the wall or just hang upside down form a chair, couch, bed, anything to make upside down!!then get a cup of water and use a straw then drink while your hanging upside down:) my cousin’s friend told me this when I got the hiccups and it worked right away!
i dnt really get hiccups its like once in a blue moon but i think that if u hold ur breathe for 30 to 60 seconds and look at light or just look up it will go away it always works for me .
Well, this may sound crazy, but this is the way I’ve always done it. You need another person, a water bottle filled with water and your arms.
Ask the other person to hold the water bottle up into your mouth and drink, but your hands must be on your head. Do this for a minute and the hiccups are gone
Peanut butter!!!!
Whenever I get the hiccups, I always drink water upside down. The easiest way is to sit on your chair with your butt on the very edge and then put your head down and drink the water. It works EVERYTIME for me!
I used to hold my breath and focus on the next hiccup coming, and when i did that, the next hiccup wouldn’t come! but sometimes that wouldn’t work, so what I’ve found to work EVERY time, is drinking water upside down. you just fill a glass of water, and bend over, put the glass on your upper lip and sip with your bottom lip. it’s hard to get used to, but it takes the hiccups away in seconds!
Fill a glass up with water, or any other beverage, and fold a paper towel a few times and put it over the top of the glass. Hold the paper risk down around the edges. Drink the beverage through the paper towel. It blocks any air from coming in through your mouth. It works every time
My method –
Fill a small glass of water.
Light a match and let it burn for about 3-4 seconds.
Drop it in the water.
Drink the water with the match in it. (But don’t drink the match, obviously.)
Hiccups – gone. Works every time.
Breathe in really slowly.. Swallow your breath 3 times and then breathe out really slowly. The trick is to make yourself burp.
Whenever I got hiccups the only thing that I do is just drink a glass of water and I would be okay in a couple of minutes…:)
Believe it or not, eating a large spoonful of peanut butter will get rid of the hiccups EVERYTIME!!!!
These are the ways that work for me.Lie Upside down. Hold your breath.Or Drink water in big gulps
it might sound weird, but i swear it works!! drink justa little bit of plain lemon juice. if ur a wimp tho, have it w\ a bit of water. always works for me.
Hi! So everytime i get the hiccups I get a spoon full of sugar ( Yes I know where you may think its from but its not this actually works) and then hold the sugar in your mouth then drink it down with some water and you should be good
to get rid of the hiccups bend forward and drink a sip of water while upside down it really works
Think of pineapples. Works every time
okay put water in your mouth, but dont swallow, make sure you are not breathing and put your fingers in your ears, then swallow but still don’t breath for 3 seconds then breath and take your fingers out of your ears and your hiccups should be gone.
hope i helped
I eat a good-sized spoonful of peanutbutter. By the time I’m done, my hiccups are gone. Works every time for me.
Get a glass of water, start drinking it and get someone to cover your ears. Don’t stop until the whole glass is gone and then the person covering your ears can stop. Your hiccups should be gone! This always works for me (:
Punching myself in the stomach, just below the ribcage, in the center (Also known as the solar plexus, if that helps), actually right under that. Always worked for me.
Swallow water by bending forward down your knees
Spoon full of peanut butter
works every time
Distraction. Do something busy and next thing you know, they’ll be gone.
fill a shot glass with water and light 3 matches one after another, as soon as the flame subsides to normal toss the match in the shot glass (after it flares up drop it as soon as it decreases) this gets the max amount of sulfur out of the match and has worked for me my whole life. If you are allergic to sulfur or sulfur antibiotics then don’t try this.
swallow water upside-down
I actually heard and tried it, it works, but to rub your earlobes!!
not think about it ocupie your self with some thing else they go away straight away!
A shot of vinegar never fails.
Take a teaspoon of sugar. Hold your breath and place the sugar in your mouth. Let the sugar dissolve in your mouth, then drink 4-8 oz of water. Then you can breath. Works every time.
for me it helps when i hold my breath for about 15 seconds. or drink plenty of water.
maybe having someone scare you
drink a glass of water while bending over…. so you kindof drink it upsidedown
Pickle juice! it may sound weird but it always works. just have a glass of pickle juice and your hiccups go away.
I take a cup of water, one without a big mouth. Then I bend over and take a drink of the water from the other side.
-
– – head side
– | glass of water, side of which I drink
– feet
Very basic picture, but I hope you get the gist of what I am trying to say.
drink a cup of waer with a paper towl in front of it
My dad always told me that he imagined he was in a sphere or something, it went 1,000 lightyears in every direction, and if he tried to touch the edges, he couldn’t reach them. He holds his breath and closes his eyes as he imagines this.
Anyway, I have to imagine him telling me that, wearing a specific shirt, and sitting in a specific chair in our house, with a specific expression on his face. For whatever reason, they always go away when I do that.
It sounds stupid, but I heard somewhere that if you have hiccups and you think of someone that you miss, if they stop after that then they miss you too. I remember hearing it and thinking “Okay that’s so fake, it’s not going to work” and next time I had hiccups I thought of my boyfriend (haha
) and they went away.. It’s worked at least 10 times now. I know what it sounds like, but hey, at least it works. :3
What my mom showed me when I was little to take a brown paper bag not plastic tear off a piece of the paper bag lick it and put it on you for head and you should rip the paper up big enough to stick and drink lots of water
As a bartender there is a very old trick to get rid of hiccups and medically proven. Place a few drops of Agnostura Bitters on a lime wedge (or Lemmon) and suck on the wedge for thirty seconds. I have used this technique numerous times through out my carreer as a bartender and keep a bottle of bitters at the house specifically for hiccups.
Normally the hiccups will disappear on their own, or through old remedies. But sometimes hiccups can be extremely long lasting and a physician needs to be seen to ascertain any underlying causes.
I had an elderly patient who had the hiccuos for nine years and they only stopped the day he died…
Breathe into a paper bag a few times. That always works for me.
How do you get rid of the hiccups?
Ans:Very simple and sounds ridiculous but it works somehow.Just try to wet a small piece of paper and then put on your forehead.Your hiccups will go away.
Take a pinch of Salt and Fresh ginger piece with Honey and Crush all with your teeth as long as possible and swallow the juice slowly..
My friend says thinking of three bald men always makes her hiccups go away. I think it’s more of a simultaneous event.
What I do is hold my breath and pinch my nose.
But the BEST way for me, is gulping at the same time I can feel a hiccup coming–it always works!
Take a full glass of water, bend over and drink water from the OPPOSITE side of the cup (the side away from you). It is sortof like drinking water upside down. :~}
Stand up straight. The hiccups will be gone for good!
basically, take in as deep a breath as you can and hold for 10 seconds… let out your breath completely expelling your lungs… take in another deep breath and hold for 10 seconds. ta da! no more hiccups. at least that works for me and my wife.
I doubt sugar or penut-butter or sugar will cure hiccups, I’d say Its more the physical action of swallowing those foods that stops hiccups.
You need to drink water upside down or at some gradient to make your stomach muscles work in revers.
a lot of people try to drink the glass of water when upside down. but I’ve found it’s much easier to get a mouth full of water first ,then get upside down.
good luck
this person i used to know told me 7 sips of a liquid gets rid of hiccups, but i don’t know if they’re 100% right or not. i think sometimes it works
Put a hot warmish blanket covering your chest to your belly button, by doing so you are warming up your diaphragm witch is in spazz mode pulling your lungs to a point where a hicups accures. Warm tempetures aleave the spazzams of this muscle witch will cause hicups to go away
Eat a packet of sugar, like you would find at a restuarant on the table. Works every time. Somehow it forces the diaphragm to stop spasming.
A fright or a drink of water while holding your nose and ears (ask for help if needed)
This may sound crazy, but French kissing. I think it has something to do with carbon dioxide.
For me it is very difficult to get rid of hiccups and they are also painfull. For me never works: holding my breath, drinking water very slowly, eating sugar (once I ate 10 tsb of sugar, so desperate I was), drinking lemon juice. Also they do not stop if someone scares me. The only thing that helps is me breathing in a bag till I fill that I have no air and I get tired. In that moment the most part of the oxigen in the bag is gone and I mainly breath carbon dioxide. This way the diaphragm is relaxing and my hiccups stop. This is actually the way doctors stop the hiccups in case of chronic hiccups. It looks strange to people that do not understand what I am doing but it is the only thing that works for me and I prefer to be strange than suffer.
My method is like many quoted here: drinking water upside-down. I’m a teacher; one of my students showed me this years ago, and it ALWAYS WORKS EVERY TIME!!
Her/my variation is to bend over and drink from the “far side” of the glass (put your upper lip on the side OPPOSITE from the side that you normally drink from). Glass should be nearly full to make this easier. Drink a few sips while bent over pretty far, then come up and Voila! Sometimes I have to take a few more sips if they’re still there, but it DOES work for me! I’ll have to try the straw method some time, but you don’t always have one handy when you get the hiccups.
“You take a glass of water and a straw and bend over and drink the water through the straw! I learned this from Dr. Oz, and it creates opposite movement of the muscles used to hiccup. Works every time.

cover your nose with no air can enter and swallow your saliva
this is a fool proof way to get rid of hiccups
my moms boyfriend is a biology teacher and she said it is science.
take 9 quick breathes
then on the 10th take a really deep breath hold and then let out slowly
whaaalah done. sounds weird but trust me it works
THINK OF WHITE HORSES!!!
1. Pinch your nose.
2. Hold your breath.
3. Swallow air three times without letting any air out.
Guaranteed to work
i always drink some lemon juice like a half an ounce or bite into a couple slices of lemon and no more hiccups.
put sugar on the tip of your tongue…gone, like magic
i have sometime and i guess have someone scare you where it make you jump IT WORKS
Drink a quarter of a glass of water to clear the throat…Then, lay down on a surface, and bend backwards so you are upside down…Next, hold your breath for 10 seconds. (if you get a hiccup right before you hold your breath, drink a bit more water and get back down to hold your breath right after swallowing)…This trick works EVERY SINGLE TIME for me, so i hope it works for whoever tries it:D
Eat a piece of cheese. Honestly!
My mom’s friend told her to do that.
It worked.
My mom told HER friend to do that.
It worked.
My mom told ME to do that.
It worked.
So try it. Maybe it’ll work for ya.
i drink a class of water, and lean forward. always works.
Hm…I plug my nose while drinking a couple of sips of water. That works for me!
Singing! Not just some little la-de-da-de-dada, but something with some force behind it. The deep breaths and the manual constriction of your diaphram causes the convulsing and spasms (hiccups) to stop.
I hope this helps. Good luck!
Scratch the roof of my mouth.
Being frightened or startled always works.
I used to have a band instructor who always told us to hold our breath with our mouths wide open so it would balance the pressure on our diapraghms. I’ve tried it a few times, and after repeating it 2-3 times it seems to work…
i was taught how to get rid of hiccups in school, and it really worked. And in mins! use a sugar cube or if you dont have it, a spoon of sugar. put it in your mouth, hold it and put you head between your legs to where it is upside down or lean to the side. while having your head upside down suck on the sugar like candy till its gone the sit back up. and your hiccups should be GONE!
I hold my breathe, or someone can say like, I give you one dollar if you do it 10 more times. sometimes hiccups go away if you dont think about it. just pretend that it isnt there, youre body will fall for it
so….still have hiccups?! HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!
Easy. Just hold your breath as long as you can. Water makes it worse for me :0
Tell someone to scare you when you don’t expect it or hold your breath for 40 secong and LET GO SLOWLY.
In hiccup our people take two and half sips of water and discuss general and strange topics of their interest.
Having Hiccups, what about a Bungee Jump?
No, your friend is having Hiccups, noproblem wear a black mask and place an empty revolver on his head, swears will come and Hiccups gone. (don’t try if your friend is crazy and Heman!)
If you want to get rid of the hiccups is mostly what i do is drink a glass of water or hold my breathe for 30 seconds.
This always works for me :
Take a full glass of water, drink half of it, and jump 3 times. Then same with the other half.
And no Hiccups. (:
I drink a tiny little sip of rice wine vinegar and it goes away for me! (:
i take a spoonful of honey and let it melt in my mouth. strange, but it works
Drinking water, or holding my breath.. or sometimes even both works wonders for me!
Don’t take sugar sugar is bad for your body. Drink a lot of water so the hiccups do not come.
A table spoon full of pure honey works every time.
take this to the bank. You get any size glass of water. And drink from the other side of the glass. Now, to do this. with the glass in front of you up to drink, put your lips on the side of the glass farthest from your mouth, then bend over forwards like you were touching your toes. drink the water. the end. you’re welcome.
Drink water from a cup over a sink upside down.
upside down meaning put your lips on the other side of the cup farthest from you. Tilt cup toward your chin. A lot will drip out into the sink
hey it is common since ! you hiccup when you are bloated with too much sugar in the system..What works everytime is eating something good with out so much sugar like a chunk of cheese with a glass a milk to settle the hiccups and tummy!! reason why we get them is having too much sugar crap…
Medatate for about 5 minutes and then honey and sugar!
Standing upside down on my head for a little seems to work for me!
easy stuff, you just eat fruits, until it stops. usually small quantity is enough.
i won’t put explanation in here
take a spoonful of sugar or a sugar packet and put it in your mouth, hold it there and take a sip of water, but a big one so that it washes it down all the way. sometimes drink alot of water without breathing too much in between works haha never fails!
Take a lemon wedge, sprinkle on a dash of bitters. Open wide and bite down. Tada – no more hiccups.
I drink water up sidedown all the the time and it works all the time for me.Just put water in your mouth and bend to your knees and drink.
I always get rid of hiccups by blowing a long single note on my trumpet. It works!!!
1. take little sips of water, trying to swallow every time you feel yourself about to hiccup and keep doing it without breathing too heavily – only shallow breaths through the nose
2. drink from the opposite side of a water bottle (you usually drink from the side right in front of you, but for this, you need to lean over to the opposite side of the opening and sip the water)
3. swallow a big chunk of something like rice, peanut butter, etc.
This method has never failed to make my hiccups disappear. Take a breath, then take three sips of water, take another breath and three more sips of water. Repeat if you feel the hiccup impulse hasn’t completely disappeared. The secret is in doing the cycle of breath and sipping more than once.
The method that I use and works is simple:
1. Lie on your back on the floor
2. Stretch your arms above your head as far as you can
3. Tilt your head back so that you are looking at your
hands
4. Hold this pose for about a minute or two
It lifts your ribcage up and releases pressure on the space between your ribs and stomach. It has worked for me every time and for everyone I have told about it. Give it a shot!
a spoon full of peanut butter always helps…
Actually, this is a proven fact-Breathing into a paper bag ALWAYS works. You know what’s really WEIRD?I have the hiccups right’hic’ now ‘hic!!!
Drink a glass of water out of the far side of the glass rim. Put your head down, put your mouth over the far side of the glass rim. The rim will be resting against your top lip. Bend forward way down and start gulping. The water moves down the top of your mouth instead of the bottom. This works very well for me.
Take 5 tablespoons of gripe water. That is pretty much what it is made for.
When you are having hiccups – put one or two pieces of ice cube in your mouth and keep it inside the mouth for a couple of min or you may also suck it inside your mouth don’t swallow the ice. This will defibitely work.
Hold your breathe while drinking 10 sips of soda (try not to breathe).
This works for me every time. All you do is take ten VERY small sips of water, swallowing the smallest amount possible as fast as you can, without lowering your glass. The best way to get the smallest amount of water is to form a barrier with your tongue.
My mom always had us do this when we were kids, and it still works
Get a TABLESPOON of sugar, get some vinegar, pour some on, and put it all in your mouth.
OR
do the same, and add pure lemon
I think it shocks your throat muscles.
US? WE still love to just eat it, it’s good!
Drinking from the wrong side of the glass works for me, but it is best done leaning over the tub or outside as you spill as much as you drink, something about water going in the top of your mouth makes the hiccups quit.
I had tried everything to cure hiccups. I drank water, I had my husband scare me, I even tried standing on my head, but I never could find something to work until my husband had a bright idea. Try to hiccup. It sounds outlandish, but I tried to hiccup and I couldn’t. So finally I have a solution (at least for myself). I’ve found that I can’t half-heartedly attempt to hiccup. I have to stop what I am doing and really concentrate and then it will pass. If you have tried everything else and nothing has worked, I recommend trying to hiccup haha.
The only flaw with this technique is that you must be distracted within the first few hiccups or else you are likely to be unsuccessful. Perhaps if another variable was added to the distracting, I don’t know. What I do know is that it work and I continue to marvel at it as baffle others with its results.
This is my observation and I can only hope that you all have as much fun using it on your self and others as I do.
1. get a glass of water
2 put your mouth on the oppisite side of the cup
3 bend over upside down, so you are facing towards your legs
4. drink about 4 swallows
MAKE SURE IT DOESNT COME OUT YOUR NOSE!!
5. wait about 5 secs. after drinking
6. come up slowly
the best thing to do when you have hiccups ,is keeping your breath for 12 seconds
A spoonful of peanut butter works for me, every time! It’s simple and it tastes good too!
close your eyes, and close your ears…
then think of “What you ate yesterday afternoon?”
It works
How I get rid of the hiccups is by taking slow deep breaths while concentrating hard on purple elephants. You have to really think about the elephants while breathing deeply or it won’t work. And don’t think I am crazy until you try it because it really does work!
I just concentrate on my breathing and make sure I inhale right before I feel the need to hiccup and I keep doing that for a couple times and then I stop getting the feeling I am about to hiccup and I go about my day
This probably sounds odd but my art teacher told me to take five little sips of water and then two big ones to get rid of hiccups, it works for me every time!
My boyfriend says that rubbing a spoonful of sugar on the roof of your mouth with your tongue works!

So what causes hiccups? Many doctors say agitating your phrenic nerves (nerves that stretch from your chest to your neck) causes hiccups. You can do this by eating too much or too quickly, drinking alcohol or carbonated beverages, swallowing air, or becoming emotionally stressed or excited. Some people have unique triggers. In rare cases, hiccups don’t go away. These hiccups are called intractable or chronic hiccups, and they may be a sign of an underlying illness.
How to get rid of them:

Breathe into a paper bag for a minute or two
Eat a spoonful of sugar
