Yay!
I'll watch the Oscars with special interest this year, because our film "El secreto de sus ojos" (The secret of their eyes) is competing in the Foreign Language Film category!
By the way, it is a superb movie so I recommend it to everyone, no matter whether it wins or not :-)

I used to watch them. I was looking at the singers that won at the Grammy's, and while photos were taken, and I am very sure those beings must look better someday, I was very embarrassed that humans look like they do to get those awards. Good thing one of them said, "That singing isn't about competion", when obviously it is. I remember when it was a big night to watch the Academy Awards. Now I think they would look like the singers that won, and that is simply a social embarrassment. I'm not a sour grape. I don't waste money on trash. Truly.

Some funny things: did you know that James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow, who are now pretending to get Oscar for best director, were husband and wife some years ago? By the way, Bigelow would be the first woman to win in the category.
What is more, Meryl Streep has broken her own record for most Oscar nominations for acting. Now the number is 16. She has also broken the record for most acting nominations in a leading role. This time was thirteenth.

I think increasing the list for Best Picture is a huge mistake. It's going down the path that the adult film awards went down, which is to make sure everyone who advertises in the trades gets a nomination somehow, somewhere.

And what is with District 9? What a piece of garbage. Was is because of the extremely vague social commentary? That movie was one of the biggest disappointments ever, and serves to demonstrate the potential facts behind my assumption.

I've been watching the Oscars since I was six years old and my friends and family think I love it a little too much. Well in over two decades of oscars I have seen some pretty amazing things but I'm pretty excited that they are allowing ten movies in the best picture category this year. Now this might have something to do with how smaller type movies seem to win a lot or maybe they are trying to diversify the category so to bring on more viewers as the numbers have been down.

I have had some small issues myself with the oscars over the years. There was the year that Russell Crowe should have won for A Beautiful Mind but he punched out his producer in a hotel room and instead people voted for Denzel Washington. Now Denzel did a great job in Training Job but I can guareentee you that if the drama with Russell hadn't happened he would have won instead. I take the awards seriously and I don't think a persons personal life should enter into the award at all. It should be based on their proformance 100% so I was annoyed that the awards were so tainted.

Then there were the last few years. The awards just seem to have become a little dry and somewhat boring. back when billy crystal and names like that were hosting the awards were exciting and fun.I think that the awards will be good this year because of how diverse the choices are. I have watched almost every movie nominated with only a handful left to watch and a month to see them in. I can't wait to see how many of my nominations match tomorrows list. Last year I had all but five right which is pretty damn good because last year I watched most of them after they were announced.

I don't watch sports so for me and many like me this is our grey cup.
