Call for community: 7.0 earthquake hits Haiti
On Tuesday, January 12, Haiti was struck by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake, centered 10 miles west of Port-au-Prince. The quake has caused widespread damage and casualties and structural damage. At this point, authorities are unsure as to just how much damage the quake has caused but know that its impact was vast and intense.
In times like these, it is important for communities to band together to provide support.
On Answers, we form a community of collective knowledge- but in the real world, together, we create a collective bound together by one thing: humanity, and the ability to endure. And in times like these, it’s important to remember that, and to help others persevere.
According to the Associated Press, “it was clear from a tour of the capital that tens of thousands of people had lost their homes and that many had perished. Many buildings in Haiti are flimsy and dangerous even under normal conditions.”

Who came up with this idea of using your own site for like online begging for contributions for natural disasters? They happen all the time across the world. Why this one? People who care already will do whatever they can to help, we don’t need prodding from Y/A..
This is truly the worst earthquake the people of Haiti have ever experienced. I am just wondering that Haiti is one of the poorest nations of US and how much damage is done to the economy and infrastructure of Haiti just because of this catastrophe earthquake.
why? the world is crazy right now. lots of bad thing doing right now.!! is the world will end now??
I was hoping there would be something about this on Answers…. my prayers are with the Haitians, living, injured, and deceased alike. What an absolutely horrible thing.
what a devastating earthquake, I wish support for all those who lost their families and friends.
wow what a tragedy, just imagine how they slept the night after,it reminds me of port royal and 9-11.
What causes a earth quake and how can people protect themselves other than go under a table\bed.I hope they will get help in time.
We need to help the people of Haiti as much as each of us is able to do. One other thing remember the pets of these people who are now wandering the streets trying to find their homes. Only one or two groups help them the ASPCA and PetSmart Charities. So if you can donate a little something to these groups too.
Thank you, Yammie, for posting info on how to help.
i was heart broken to see that Haiti was strucked by the 7.0 earthquake.I mean i have a lot of brothers and siters and relatives at Haiti so i was extremely heart broken to hear that…..bye
Good blog. A very compassionate and responsible blog to write.
On a side note,I hope the answers community also has humanity.
Can YA create a new category “Haiti Earthquake” to speed up questions and answers in this area?
Its a very good appeal for humanity. I hope many will donate.
Hi from Germany, Europe.
One of my country lads’ most favorite holiday destination is the Dominican Republic, located on the same island as Haiti. And I’m proud to say that I know a couple who cancelled their holiday flight and instead donated to the Red Cross to help the Haitians.
I think there is help on the way. But as with most catastrophes, it won’t come in time. But I believe that even my humble donation to a rescue organisation helped relieving a child or a family from absolute despair. Or at least, that’s what I hope for.
That sounds terrible. I am sorry for them. Truly.
Lets not close our eyes to missfortune people. Our prayer to the victims is not enough, just $5 donation to unicef can make a difference.
My friend’s dad was scheduled to go there with a group of people with care kits and things in two days. We can only imagine if the earthquake had happened while they were there–It’s so devastating no matter who was there. I’m thankful my friends dad was spared from being there, but also praying for all who are there.
BOO fricking HOO. When does the international community come to the USA when OUR disaster occur????
Who cares??? Did ANYONE come to the aid of the Katrina victims?? NO.
Let them call France. Or China. See if they’ll lend a hand.
We have SO MUCH TO TAKE CARE OF HERE IN THE United States, THAT WE HAVE NO BUSINESS BEING ‘HUMANITARIAN’ ANY LONGER……..
A friend from high school and her husband were in downtown Port-au-Prince when the earthquake hit. They were in their 3rd floor apartment in a concrete building which completely collapsed. They were lucky enough to be able to dig their way out and come out with just bumps and bruises and some stitches. They were working for an American humans rights group who is working on sending all of their surviving employees home now.
This is truly a horrifc nightmare that has happened in Haiti. This country and most of its people were struggling everyday to survive and now this. I have lots of family in Haiti and am so happy to say that they are all alive. Some have lost their homes but homes can be rebuilt. I ask all who read this to consider finanial or other support to this counrty in need. Thank you all for your support.
This is a horrible tragedy that has occured, but we can help make a difference, if we each just donate at least $5 it will add up and help the people of Haiti.
If each person in the US only donated $1, that alone would amount to abt. $300,000,000. That would go a ways to helping. If everyone would pull just a little weight a lot of weight could go to into helping others. Also, don’t forget about the animal victims as well.
I just hope they don’t loot like they did in New Orleans.
0_0 12/10. the new 9/11 ((im serious.no joke intended))
Im very sad to hear about this, I hope that millions of people decide to help out…my prayers go out to each and every one of them.
Well, I just donated $100 towards relief efforts, I hope it will make a difference. Growing up privileged has inspired me to try to make a difference in other’s lives.
I live in Puerto Rico, very near to where this earthquake happened and we are in disbelief because even though we are less than 1,000 miles away it feels like it happened in another and distant part of the world.
But I’m very proud and glad that we Puertoricans are going to Help Centers created in less than 6 hours to bring everything we can, food, medicines and clothes. I hope we can do much more to help our Haitian brothers…
I feel so badly for these poor people, had their country been a little better off they could have avoided this by building strong structures. Especially since they have known for nearly 20 years the Earth Quake epicenter was right next to the city.
I feel even more sorry that all the aid the world is going to send is still not going to pick up the city and move it 80 miles East where it is safer to live.
People are however inherently ignorant look at all the people in California living on fault lines and in line where forest fires come every few years. MOVE!
if you donate funds, check with your employer – they may have a matching funds program, and you can double your giving.
The people of Haiti have been through so much hardship already even before this catastrophe. Please give want you can.
I’m waiting for my $40 dollar donation to go through to a charity that I saw earlier today. Prayer isn’t going to feed, shelter, educate give them the medicine/medication and other basic and important needs that they have always been in need of and that we the people in the more fortunate countries are blessed to have but waste. It’s a shame that people can’t or won’t reach out to the country after hurricanes hit or on a daily bases to help them strengthen their infrastructures.
Wish I could do more than donate and pray.
I have been to Haiti several times on humanitarian mission trips. The depth of the poverty in this country can not be appreciated by most Americans. Now this horrible natural disaster. My prayers go out to the Haitian people! These people are for the most part a friendly, kind and loving lot who are trapped in a seemingly endless cycle of misery. Words and images do not begin to describe the deplorable conditions to which these people have endured for centuries! America and the world will again come to the rescue as we did after the tsunami. I know from my contact with the Haitian people, that any gift will be appreciated and the generosity of the gift long remembered. I hope that the generosity of the world will not be abused by those scumbags in Haiti, who have stolen from the poor unfortunates in that country for their own enrichment in the past! Those people should be shot if they are caught stealing aid of any kind!
Please answer my question. Its about this earth quake. i need to know who to donate to.
Thank you,
Jessica (12 yrs old)
This is behond aweful! Its a good thing that Haiti is not far from us and we have unleashed all of our might..Helping with aid, ships, planes, and our military is in route to help as much as we can as always! I really feel bad for all the the heart broken people and the misery, We gotta help em out, Bill gates and warren buffet need to get on board now!
It is…sigh
I hope and pray that these people in Haiti are able to get the help they need.
This is very sad, and I agree that communities have to get together to support Haiti.
I am in COLOMBIA and my community wants to send SUPPORT. Does it have to be MONEY or can it be ITEMS that are needed. And if items can be sent any ideas on who or what organization can COLLECT THEM AND GET IT TO HAITI????? Thankyou
The Haitians need water now. Food and medical supplies. If you are donating make sure you donate to a real organization. Not scumbags who make money off of suffering.
We need all people, rich to poor to help out Haiti. I want to see some professional sports players, and owners donate money, time, or other things. We need to help out Haiti because they need help… Isn’t that what humanity about
here is the link from MSN.com providing more details & a list of charitable donations active in the nation
For those interesting in helping immediately, simply text “HAITI” to “90999″ and a donation of $10 will be given automatically to the Red Cross to help with relief efforts, charged to your cell phone bill. (verified by MSN & the link provided)

I can’t believe this. This is such a heart wrenching story that is affecting millions of people across the world. Although I have nothing to donate, those affected are definitely in my prayers. I love to see all these folks helping out! It puts a huge smile on my face!
wow! =S
=/
I have nothing to give for those people who lost their everything but I will always pray for them so that God will help them and give them heavenly consolation. And this is my request to all the people of the world please pray for them
I’ve read a newspot online that was talking about Haitians living in Florida in a little burb all their own. Many of them are there on green cards and could be sent back any day now and this has added to the pain going on in that town. Polititians have taken up their cry: do not send these people home for at least another 90 days. I don’t want to imagine the horror of being sent back to…what? Total devestation? Dead people in the streets? Living people wandering around, lost? Good grief! Please, President Obama, let those people stay here for awhile where they are safe! Make a telephone call and tell the green card people to lay off the Haitians until their country can get itself back up.
I’ll help them through my prayers. God will be there. :]
my prayers go out to everyone affected tonight <3
Our Tax Money already goes toward helping them,
whether We chose to or not, We have already helped
through paying Taxes. Why should I donate twice?
We already did through taxes!
We are forced to pay taxes. At least this time I can chose to donate a second time or not.
I chose Not, at least its one thing I can control.
When asked to donate to causes like this,
I reply, “I already did through Taxes whether it
was my choice or not.
Who is getting paid twice now?
I just want to add a note of caution that the scammers will be out in force after this tragedy. Before you donate, do a google check and see if the charity is legit, and the Haitian people will benefit from your generosity.
I have nothing wrong with saying a prayer for the people and offering moral support.
But I think it’s the utmost hypocricy on the part of Yahoo! Answers to call on the community for support while at the same time if a member of the community requests prayers for a terminally ill child or a misfortune in their own lives, the team removes the prayer request and gives a violation notice to the person requesting the community’s prayer.
Is anyone on the answers team over 30 years old? It sure doesn’t show in their hypocricy.
This is a terrible event I am hoping everyone is getting in and helping out…I have quite a few reputable links on my page where you can donate to help the people of Haiti. Thank you for the great post.
Luke Spencer
We all need to come together and lend a helping hand,no matter what your opinions are we need to come together and help those in need
I know it’s bad and terrible, I just don’t think I should be made to feel guilty for not wanting to help out. If something like this was to happen in the U.S there would not be an international cry for help. The President would get calls of condolence, but nothing more. There would be no aid to our nation.
i am very sad for all the people that died in Haiti also i think its a good idea to send troops and supplies to all the people that have no shelter over there
as level 3 CERT member- trained for disasters, I was disappointed that I couldn’t find a group to help with.
If anyone has done the 90999 text, how long is it taking for you to get a confirmation response?
@ Michael who said ” If something like this was to happen in the U.S there would not be an international cry for help.:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_response_to_Hurricane_Katrina
I’m not paying through my taxes for this crap.
My prayers are with the Haitian people and all the teams who have gone to assist in the rescue effort. To all those who have lost loved ones, homes, livelyhoods, and sufferd injuries may God give you comfort in this trying time.
Immediatly after this tragedy occurred, my church sent up prayers, and began raising money .One of my contact on Answers asked for the community to pray for those affected by this tragedy; and his question was deleted because of some belief it was in violation. What bothers me is how was his question in violation, and this blog is not? Seems very hypocritical on the part of Yahoo: when someone requests humanitarian concern:violation. When Yahoo does the very same thing:acceptable.hmmmmm?!
jan hernandez, i agree with you the poor creatures do indeed benefit from aspca and petsmart charities and a little goes a long way ,
while my prayers and financial support go out to the people of Haiti I am concerned that we as a nation rush to help forgein lands but we still haven’t cleaned up our own miss left from Katrina.
How sad we fail to help our own first….
my deepest prayers for all involved
My wife and I donated $100.00 to the Red Cross in helping these very unfortunate people.I cannot imagine the pain and suffering these people are going through right now.Just to NOT have ELECTRICITY alone is rough. When I heard of the little girl that lost her fingers and was not able to get medical attention,I cried.
hello !! think abt how its happen …we kno that last few years its not going but now ! !!
i think they will get help but think abt once how its happn !!
I am very sorry, for all the people of Haiti,i am praying for all those who lost a dear one or more from their family,i wish that i can make some thing for them more than pray, but there is a hope for all those who lost some one in death…the bible say in JOHN 5V28,29 that when GOD’s kingdom comes on earth, those who have died will be resurrected on earth,no one will morn again,no pain and no more sickness.REVELATION 21V3,4.
Thanks for this blog entry.
I’ve been watching news and reading online about this disaster since it happened.
One charity that I’ve see mentioned a lot is Wyclef Jean’s relief group “Yele” – he’s from Haiti and this is a well-established group that knows the country so they are prepared to give help in useful ways. Here’s the link:
http://www.yele.org/
For what it’s worth, I’ve read that (1) money donations are easier to use for charities than other stuff, and (2) it’s not necessary to specify that one’s donation should go to a specific place – in fact that’s better because the organizations then can use the money when and where it’s necessary.
In the middle of this tragedy, it makes me glad to know that Argentina’s mobile military hospital is there and doing what they can to help.
Its great to see that any post that is not filled with prayers and donations gets deleted. i posted my feelings earlier (nothing hateful or mean) and it got deleted. its bad enough when the media is censored but when a public open forum is censored were in bad shape. im keeping my money and my prayers.
I’ll be helping Hatians through my local Friend Ships and church donations this week – they are taking food/supply/energy/monetary donations…although I cannot help much wiith money, I’ll help with what I have…but my boyfriend and I were discussing all the outcries for help and news coverage…and realized something else…it is so sad to realize that it always takes a disaster of huge proportions to shove the whole of mankind onto the bandwagon of good loving and giving and humanitarianism. I am not saying we should give everything all the time…but I love my charities…everyone should have one..no matter what it may supply, there’s one for everyone!
Wow that’s overwhelming what happened in Haiti. But people, you do know that Haiti isn’t the only country that got attacked with that earthquake–so did the Dominican Republic. So why is all of the attention on Haiti? Not that it’s not tragic but why not look at the whole picture?
Donate please, including a little money, is many many needed!
That is horrible. What is Mother Nature thinking????
I have a friend I work with that has an extensive family in Haiti.. She’s going NUTS over here in CT.
My prayers go out to her and her family.
Hang in there Marie and pray
If you can donate nothing else, donate BLOOD, the blood banks need all the blood they can collect to help with the medical needs of the critical in Haiti. Money helps but blood can save a life.
Before you donate, make sure you are using well-known organizations. The Red Cross is definitely one of them. I wouldn’t trust these text message ones. It seems a little shadey. I agree with one of the other people who stated everyone should at least give a $1 in America. Also, another who stated to think about the animals. Donations are necessary for them as well.
I will say that we all need to think positively people. It is hard for us to feel for people in other countries because they are not close to home or right in our own backyards. However, one day something like this will happen (and has happened) to us and we may need the assistance that others can help provide. We are all in this together. So if you cannot donate, then don’t donate. Others will pick up the slack.
I am a teacher of weather and after seeing the devastation in this country. I cannot help to think about Hurricane Katrina. The scenes of the living and the dead on the streets are so shockingly familiar. We have been through our share of devastating times, Hurricane Katrina being only one of them. We need to be more compassionate.
No, this is not the end of the world but it should be the start of something new. A movement for humanity. A new beginning of thinking about others and not ourselves.
any1 know whether or not theres a way to at least send water or sum food out there to haiti? if so, can u post it on yahoo answers please THANK YOU!.
It is truly a sad event, the first major disaster of 2010. My prayers go out to the people, but Im also Concerned for the animals who are now also homeless. To animal lovers, we must also do what we can to help the animals in need In Haiti
My husband works for the American Red Cross, which has an International Response Fund and is receiving donations to help the Haitians. Do not send goods, send money, since the situation currently is that getting goods into the country is virtually impossible by air. They will be shipped by sea, but relief workers must decide what is needed.
See the ARC site for information about how you can help:
http://www.redcross.org/
The photo at the top of the page was actually taken before the earthquake hit, so one can only imagine what things are like now!
I don’t get why people get so upset about this.
It’s just natural selection in action.
I have seen death at its worst as a deputy sheriff and it sickened me every time in my soul..A friend of mine is from PORT-AU-PRINCE. His whole family is missing, he has daughters, sons,an ex wife, cousins, aunts, uncles and siblings all missing as of right now..He works with me part time at night and im his supervisor, I told him to go home if he wanted and he would be compensated as long as he was out. My wife and I wanted to open some kind of relief fund via a bank account in his name so he can possibly go to Haiti to try and find his family..I think its even worse to look a grown man in the eyes and see the pain of his whole family possibly dead at once ! ! I want to help him and so do others but in this day and time too many people take advantage of situations like this to make quick cash.. I want to start some kind of fund for him personally ..is there anything i can do like open a bank account so people can deposit money for him?? Please give me some idea, I don’t want to do money jars cause I just don’t trust people very much..Id rather trust it going directly into a bank under his name..I mean i just saw that they are dumping bodies in mass graves without documenting who they were, this is very disheartening…please give what you can..you would be surprised with what you can give ..just think these people lived on 2 bucks a day…if you just don’t go out to eat for a month there’s about 200.00 bucks for my family…tears flow as i write this just thinking of the mother, father, daughter, son, aunt, uncle, grandfather, grandmother, brother and sisters that are trapped under thousands of pounds of rubble in some small nook not knowing if you are going to live or die, maybe wishing you will die…GOD BE WITH ALL THE PEOPLE AT PORT AU PRINCE… Thanks Sean T Roberts
okay this is sad as h3ll… this is worse that ever…. my only thoughts are this:
My plane for Haiti is the following:
We first need to get the medics that have the food with the and cleaners up there first. then once its all cleaned up, then land the planes with alot more supplies.
i think that we are all doing out part by donating ny text, e-mail, mail and such. i love the fact that even youtube is pitching in. everywhere i look there is a donation sign. even places ther i didn’t even know existed pitched in!!!! i really like all those who are helping. even if its posting up a simple blog or vlob or anything! ur helping either way.
thanks for reading.
I wish I could fly down there right now, as do probably a lot of other people. But I can’t, and I have no money? so what should I do to help?
ALL profits from jewelry-creations.net will be donated to the red cross for disaster relief for Haiti.
Why can’t the aid; food, water, medicine, supplies… get to the people in Haiti?
It’s been THREE days!!! The airport has been accepting flights …
What is holding up the progress? Why are people dying with the stuff still sitting on the tarmac? What’s going on in Haiti? Help has arrived and everyone seems to be sitting on their thumbs… I can’t even see rescue workers on the streets… WHY?
Is it because non-nationals are being flown out and using the one runway to run from the disaster?
I just saw a doctor interviewed who had to amputate a man’s arm without anesthesia… WHY?
News crews are talking with the people, taking their pictures, showing the locals loading private trucks with dead bodies… WHERE are the people and supplies that have been sent?
I’ve seen boxes and boxes of supplies on the tarmac in Haiti… why is it not OUT AND ON THE STREETS?
This is indeed very sad and all. I can’t beginn to describe how terrible I feel for the loss of all theese people.
But this is also a wake up call. Or at least I hope so.
This will keep going on, and it will get worse.
Why? The greatest threat our world faces today is the huge population increeses.
And if we don’t do something about this immediately, lager Disasters will happen. Larger, as in a greater amount of people dying next time.
in the 1900 Tahiti had a population on 300.000
In 2010 i was 9.000.000
Is this normal population increese? Hello no!
I kept reading my prayers are with them but you know what prayers don’t put clothes on their backs, roofs over their heads or food in the stomach so skip the religious bs and donate if you’re going to or don’t comment at all. Because you can’t walk up to a child and just offer your prayer
hello
I have been hearing this a lot in the last few days.
death toll is nearing the 45,000 to 50,000 people
I look at this I think of tsunami another disaster no one will forget.
One radio station is hoping to a radio thon so people can donate money clothes food
Why mus we help them? When is the last time Haiti provided an support of a tragedy we experienced in the US or anyone in the world? Yes it is a tragedy this happened but if they don’t help others it should be expected that other help them.
It’s always sad to see that, in times of tragedy or in a call to help others, there are those people who resist doing what they can to help those less fortunate. I don’t want to bring religion into it, but some of the people refusing to help also claim to follow the teachings of a person who preached charity, giving, and turning the other cheek. Money will help Haitians and support volunteers, doctors, and skilled personnel from all over the world who rushed to assist. Praying will only make yourself feel better for doing nothing of practical use.
The “bargain” for deciding whether to be charitable is not “what has Haiti done for me lately”. That is amoral selfishness.
The damage to Haiti is in the Billions of dollars in Structrural damage, the loss of human life and suffereing so far is unbelievable. the human suffereing yet to come has not been taken into account.
I am in Haiti and have been part of and witnessed this tragedy first hand.
Thank You for having a blog regarding this terrible disaster in Haiti. I think it is great that we can all come as a community and help. Is there any way we can donate items for people in Haiti? I am a bit wary of some of the organisations as many do not pass the money to the true people affected.
My prayers go out to the people of Haiti
my heart goes out for the people of Haiti so i calling on all to help in some form
I wish i could help them, but the bad news is that first, i don’t have any money to donate, and second, here were i live i don’t know were to donate…
I hope that things get better over there in Haiti…
Its a pity such a powerful earthquake that caused hell lot of damage struck a place like haiti. May those good people who died rest in peace.
Why doesn’t Y/A at least have a catagory for Haiti, it has one for the Dominican Republic in Travel? Then any questions re Haiti could be gathered together.
Obviously there is at least one hospital intact. Why were not medical supplies via helo sent there from the airport immediately? We keep hearing how even basic supplies are needed. Could not doctors, nurses, been likewise been flown in from the airport by helo and portable ERs/ORs been quickly set up close by? Could not digging tools have been air dropped around the city for those doing rescue work instead of them having to use bare hands? Same with food and water. I know they say it would have caused trouble, but at least some would have been helped. I just wonder why there is not a plan, a basic strategy in place for various emergency situations. We know that sooner or later they will come along. Why is there not an international clearing house of aid in various regions ready to go at a moments notice instead of every time starting up ad hoc such as now?
They knew full well there was an earthquake fault zone running under their city and have known for more than 50 years, they should have done what most sensible people would have done. Packed up their stuff and moved further away from where the fault was, Guess that is “Their Fault.”
Yet they continue living in a zone where they knew they would die if it ever came to a huge one, and now that we are so far in debt we can’t see straight and have the option to become Chinese citizens these sad poor people with nothing come crying to us when they should have stopped and taken measure to prevent this.
I know what it’s like to survive a natural disaster, and truly that puts a test to see if one can survive, or one who can not. I’d like to think that I know what these people are going through or how they feel.
I think they feel helpless, and with little to no relief efforts I know they feel hopeless. For those out there who have survived a natural disaster whether if you were in a flood, a tornado, a fire storm, a blizzard, a hurricane, and yes even an earthquake how do you think these people are going to feel? Now with the new aftershock that happened, and the high risk of yet another one, what do you think these poor people are going to do or even think?
We are accustomed and feel that it is necessary to have the need to help these people. yet we’re so scared that this earthquake is going to send a different kind of aftershock. What do you really think that this disaster is going to do to us as a already ‘shaken’ economy? Never for as long as I’ve been living, have I ever heard that us as a country is reluctant and scared to help…but we’re doing it anyway, right?
I know I have more to say, yet I can’t think of a way to put them. Politics and greed is slowly starting to add to an already seemingly hopeless situation. It’s going to take one last aftershock to just push all of us over the edge.
Haiti earthquake is a tragedy and we must be sympathetic and provide aid if possible but we must not forget other third world countries who are desperate for ice making equipment and Zambonis.
OMG that so sad I live near enough to Haiti YIKES!! I heard they had another earthquake today the 20th January 2010 it measured 6.0 that’s almost as bad as the other one :’-( so sorry for them
To the people who are bashing those who are offering their prayers, let me tell you this: The people of HAITI is a people of FAITH. I watched numerous reports on TV where it was mentioned how everyone over there kept chanting and praying. Reporters often told how they were amazed by that fact. Last Sunday, people gathered on rubble of collapsed churches to celebrate mass or other liturgical services. Yesterday again, the 70 y.o woman they pulled out alive from the rubble of the Cathedral 1 week after the major earthquake, was saying how she kept praying and calling out to the Lord. Wyclef Jean shed tears on Oprah as he was telling her how moved he was to see and hear people chanting and praying in the midst of this devastation. A couple of foreign doctors described it as a “miracle” the fact that some children were pulled alive 1 week after, and among them, a 23-day old baby!
I agree that PRAYING ALONE is not enough and should be accompanied by WORKS for even the Bible says faith without works is a vain faith, but bashing people who are sympathizing through their faith and talking about “religious bs” is an insult to most Haitians living in Haiti, because FAITH is what keeps them going despite the numerous natural disasters, poverty and political turmoils and BEING TRAPPED ALIVE UNDER THE RUBBLE. I am talking from PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. Please, DO NOT tell people to “shut up” just because YOU are ignorant of the power of PRAYER CHAIN.
Peace and Love !!!
PLEASE DONATE WHAT YOU CAN. I ALREADY DID !!! There’s a link to a list of respectable organizations working on relief efforts for Haiti on Yahoo’s homepage.
This is such a tragaety! Most of people died of this.I was heartbroken when I first heared. All the channels and the red cross are really making a differnce!
That expression “If every person in Country X donated 1 dollar (or their local currency) to Haiti…” has come true for Canada… and this is BEFORE the government’s matching dollar for dollar from donations by citizens (through independent contributions, not via public funds). So it *is* possible!
wow its nice how they gathered so many millions for a worthy cause, kind hearted people are still around, so many lives lost, spare more so that they could build better houses maybe some apartments and some strong lumber\wood houses that can stand up to hurricanes. It was amazing how the 70 year old woman came out alive after so many days, and the boy that they found also the guys that were trapped in the food and beer\ beverage isle were lucky.[hope he did not get too drunk]The come back will be hard to believe i don’t know how the people in charge will do it but something got to be done, just to think where they sleep and release themselves[bathroom] is pityful.
We should help them. People are people, we are all made of flesh and bones. We are all the same, no matter what ethnicity, religion, creed etc we are. We are all human and should help our own people “the human race”. This tragedy should bring us all closer and my heart goes out to those people who have lost everything. It is so sad and I pray for them. I hope that they will not be afraid to ask for help if needed. Lets do what we can for them..That should be the motto of every human..not hatred and resent but How can I help someone in need regardless of who they are and where they are from.
Ok they never helped us with anything… Why should we help them? This is bull crap. They aren’t part of our nation. Our nation is going through enough as it is and now we’re supposed to just stop whatever we’re doing and help them? No!!!! Help yourselves… Like the American’s have done time and time again!!!!
How can a small nation that has been so DEVASTATED can help itself all alone??????? Americans don’t have to be the only one to land a hand; the whole international community should land a hand especially the countries that are more fortunate. However, the Americans seem to be wanting to control the relief efforts all by themselves and this is not fitting well with other nations/governments who want to help. There are currently a lot of criticisms from the latter on that point.
Moreover, it’s not about returning favors but HAITIANS DID HELP THE U.S IN THE PAST. Here are a couple of FACTS among MANY:
1) Haitians – along with French soldiers – have offered their sweat and blood to Americans by participating in some battles during the American Revolutionary War against Great Britain, notably the Battle of Savannah in 1779.
2) The Haitian Revolution during the early 19th centruy was one of the reasons that led France to sell the state of Louisiana to the United-States.
Helping those that are less fortunate can do good for both the donors and the receivers. Maybe America is still a “blessed” country despite its “sins” because it is often there to land a hand where it’s needed, and as a superpower it has the responsibility to do so.
God Bless Haiti and God Bless the United States of America.!!!
I just want to say it is terrible but we will see more of this. As the last days keep moving.
However i think when it come to disaster management the Jehovah’s Witnesses knows better or are more organize.
