Share your last minute gift ideas
It’s down to the wire: there are only a few more days until Christmas. As Wednesday, December 16th, the National Retail Federation said the average shopper has just 46.7% of their holiday shopping done.
With so few days left, the holiday panic begins to set in for many as shoppers begin realize there are a few people left their list who they still haven’t purchased (or made) gifts for. Since we know the Answers community is full of brilliant gift givers (and receivers!) we’ve pulled together a list of the toughest people to buy gifts for, and have posted a series of questions for each.
Now, using the collective wisdom of the Answers community, (that’s you!) feel free to stop by each question and share your own expertise, or, pick up a tip or two from a fellow community member. We’ll leave the questions up until Christmas—by then, the lists (and ideas!) will grow.
Feel free to suggest gift ideas for:
- The person who has everything
- Your office mate and/or boss
- Your neighbor
- Your mother-in-law
- Your significant other
Good luck, and happy shopping! Whatever you decide to buy, be sure to come back here and tell us how it worked out!

Last year, I baked a couple of batches of cookies shaped as Christmas trees, iced them and put them in a little jar with ribbon. Make sure you choose a recipe for icing that hardens or it can get messy! Those metallic sugar-balls make perfect baubels to decorate with.
I think a great last minute gift is the amazon Kindle, especially since they are shipping it 2-day free right now! Great for anyone who loves to read, plus it’s green – no killing of trees for books.

Positively the coolest idea if you’re strapped for time or cash, check out the idea:
“As we consider our individual place in this world we can be of help to others with a simple gesture that bestows the gift of charity on those who are in need, on behalf of the ones we care about. If this sounds like a good idea to you, redefine Christmas by giving others donations to their favorite charities, request that others do the same for you, and use this site to share this message with as many people as you can think of. Chances are, you’ll like the way it feels.”
Yes! I’m 100% in favor of this idea. Brings back some meaning to a holiday that’s gotten over-commercialized. Who really needs another tie or fruitcake, anyway!
I really liked this. I answered all those questions with what I thought were some good ideas and then I went back and read all the other answers which had some great ideas I hadn’t thought about. There were some great suggestions and almost all of them you could do on a low budget.
ipod touch
a money order in an envelope with a christmas\new year card.
a stone from the ocean.
a box of heineken[beer] with a big bow on top..
In my opinion a perfect gift is most likely to be somehting unique. There are a few places online where you can create such one of a kind gifts and its usually pretty cheap.
The person who has everything — wallgreens card
Your office mate and/or boss — candy/other gift food.
Your neighbor — candy/other gift food (or a regift, depending on your feelings towards them.)
Your mother-in-law –flowers
Your significant other –this should not be a last minute gift,
will yahoo answer give us gifts?that be good.
My mom is the most difficult to get for. In past years I got her something I THOUGHT she’d like , when she got it she politely said thanks and you never saw the item again after this. Or she ended up re gifting it, her short term seeming memory made her forget who she got it from and I’ve already gotten a re gifted item from her now that I’ve given her in the past. I point it out and she still wanted me to keep it anyway. lol I’ve learned my lesson in that one, either a gift card to where I know she shops at or the ONLY perfume she likes is what she will now get each year. This makes it easier.
Terry Fator Live in Vegas CD
He is a unique and talented ventriloguist who won America’s Got Talent in 21007.
The CD will amaze you and keep you in stitches. It is a family friendly album.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah now you’ve made me nervous, Melissa!
Tomorrow I’m gonna defy the crazy shopping masses on the street to get the last few gifts I need.
I really need inspiration :-O
A simple gift basket full of relxation things. Or for movie goers, a popcorn bucket (99 cents store) box of popcorn, and some different seasonings. Or for the relaxation part, fill it with some satchets of scents for the bathroom, or those scented stones, potpourri however you spell it lol
For kids – a DVD, or clothes their size.
For Woman – Nice pair of earring, and matching necklace at shoppers drug mart.
For Men – Gift card for Haircuts. They will need it someday!
Bath and Body Works is aa great solution for those people you feel obligated to get presents for, even if they are not your best friend. Who DOESN’T like something from B&BW? Sweet smelling hand sanitzers, 5 for $5; lotion 3 for $10… you will not get anything else that is so cheap and makes people so happy. And then just add some chocolate to the mix and there ya go! A great present!
Gift cards are so tacky. Give cash made into little bows–at least there is 10 seconds worth of thought in that.
Do not ever give a gift card-unless you want people to know you don’t give a damn and are bored with the whole thing.
Everyone has pictures that need to be in albums. Everyone can use a dressy set of candlesticks and white candles.
Everyone can use snacks/treats/party napkins.
For the person who has everything-donate to World Wildlife Fund or Cancer research in his name.
Office mates-they got little candles, little sweet soaps, llittle boxes of very expensive candy and note cards.
Neighbors-hand-baked chocolate chip cookies
Mother-n-law-nice handmade jewelry in her favorite color, stuff for her hobby-like scrapbooking or cooking or a day of chores–and really DO IT. A brick in a downtown sidewalk with her name on it.
You significant other-gold, diamonds or stocks Lasting value or lasting memories — shared events/memories. Once, he bought me a couple of goats and I raised goats for several years.Once, I got flying lessons with him. Once, we went to Kansas City for the weekend. Once, we took dancing lessons. Once, box seats at the symphony for a year. This year, we bought each other 1- year memberships at the local health club/swimming pool. And we go several times a week together.
hmmm i write short poems & stick them in stockings it’s fun!
I rocked up to woolworths right before I got home to my sister who had just turned 11 that morning and a gingerbread man.
HA!
I think there is nothing wrong with giving giftcards especially if you present them in a fun and different way. This year for someone I wasn’t sure for, I got him a gift card to a place I know he would like and hid it in a box of little green army men. I know he does war reenactment, so I thought it would be a cute and fun way to give him the gift. And I was right!
For years I have asked my kids not to get me any gifts for christmas. But they do anyway. What I would really Like rthem to do is give a gift so someone that need it then send me a card letting me know that is what they did. at my age I do not need anything and if I want something I go buy it. In this land of stuff there a pleanty of people who need basics. Give to them/
This year, I really did last minute shopping for stocking stuffers for my neices and nephews..thank goodness for TracFone holiday bundles. Can’t believe how cheap they are…$10 phones that come with its on case and handsfree headset.
For kids – a robots, or clothes their size.
For Woman – Nice pair of earring, and matching necklace at shoppers drug mart.
For Men – Gift card for Haircuts. They will need it someday!

For this new year, the greatest gift the world expects
from you is YOU.
I will have my loved ones and friends getting some home-made chocolates from me this Christmas. I already have the ingredients as early as now so when I won’t have time to shop, the last-minute thing will be just for preparing and baking the items. I will create small Santa lollipops or any Christmas-related designs. I’m considering a blend of cookies too!
