In the United States, Thanksgiving weekend is known as one of the biggest shopping weekends in the country. But did you also know it’s one of the biggest weekends to watch football, eat leftovers, travel, and see movies?

Thanksgiving weekend (and the weekend before it) typically marks the start of the holiday blockbuster sweeps: Movie studios scramble to squeeze in as many big-ticket movies into the last remaining weekends of the year when they know kids are off from school, parents are overwhelmed with holiday guests, and people are looking for something to do that doesn’t require braving the throngs of people at the mall.

If you plan on visiting the movie theater this weekend, what do you plan on seeing?

Are you going to take in the latest “Twilight” flick, or are you going to see how George Clooney does as an animated character in “Fantastic Mr. Fox”? Or maybe you’re looking for something a bit more serious and will end up watching “Precious” or “The Men Who Stare at Goats.” Whatever you see, enjoy the popcorn, and be sure to check out Yahoo’s Holiday Movie Guide and come back to share your reviews!

  1. “If you plan on visiting the movie theater this weekend, what do you plan on seeing?”

I would go check out 2012, the special effects from the trailer look like it is ideal for the big screen and big sound from movie theaters!

  2. In History, the story of Thanksgiving Day was taught when I was in school. It began by a people who had come across the ocean – leaving everything in search of a place where they could live free and worship God as they pleased. It was a day of Thanksgiving for God’s provision. Our first president -George Washington declared November 26 to be a day of Prayer and Thanksgiving. Abraham Lincoln again declared the day to be to give thanks to God.
Congress -years later set the date as a National Holiday. We have gotten away from the meaning of the day in our country.

  6. I just saw 2012. It was a great movie! I felt sorry for the main characters that died. And all the people who died with them.

This may sound crazy, but Woody’s character inspired me. He taught me to feel happy for my death!

  8. I went with a group of friends to see the new Twilight movie last night thinking well I don’t mind the fact I had to wait a week because you were busy last weekend because its not opening night so it won’t be so packed, haha yeah right, and there was a huge line to get in, and it was fun trying to find a parking spot and just get arround town because the Christmas parade was just getting done. When we got in the movie was packed but it didn’t sell out like it probably did last weekend.

I usually go see whatever sounds good, I go at least every other week if theres a movie showing I want to see, in the summer we almost never miss a weekend because there are so many good ones, and often 2 or 3 that sound good come out at once. So we go weekend after weekend to see movies and $7 a person isn’t too expensive, and usually we don’t buy consessions, we eat before we see the movie its cheaper, or sometimes depeding on where you eat its not really cheaper but its a better value to get food somewhere else and spend the same amount of money you would spend on consessions.

  9. I probably won’t be going to the theater, but, I go to the hospital to eat and they have leftover Thanksgiving plates. I had one today-ham, stuffing, and potatoes and gravy. Yummy. That is what I will be doing. And shopping and getting my mitts on everything I possible can. Ha. Hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving Yamster. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

  14. I usually see a movie alone every weekend, I just buy a soda and whatever sounds good I am there, I have a friend sometimes but not that often. I do not date or anything like that, which usually gets someone mad but I really do not care. I try to leave the house every day for work or just go to the store. I enjoy almost any movie, except for chick flicks or childrens movies

  15. My Thanksgiving weekend this year was pretty good. The day before the big day, I got together with some friends that I haven’t seen in a long time which was nice. Then, I spent quality time with my family over the next few days. On Sunday, I saw “New Moon.” Like the book, the pace was fairly slow. Dakota Fanning’s character (Jane) was my favorite part of the entire movie. Personally, I prefered reading “Eclipse” so I’m sure that the movie will also be good.
As far as movies go, I’ve noticed a general pattern: Normally, the big block-buster, action-packed films come out during the late spring/summer season and the family-friendly and inspirational type of movies come out during the holiday season. I thought that this summer in particular was a great time for movies! My favorites were: “Star Trek,” “Terminator Salvation,” “Harry Potter 6,” and “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.”

  16. I am surprized that no one mentioned football as a Thanksgiving or after Thanksgiving tradition. I went and saw a Championship playoff for the UFL. Las Vegas Locos and Florida Tuskers. I haven’t been too intrested truthfully in the movies that have come out in the past few months.

  17. I am always interested in 2010. Since it has published for several days, i have no time to go to the cinema.

A little hopeful to it, also a little scared…
