I saw VH with DLR and Sammy. Saw each of the singers solo. Sammy kicks DLR`s butt. Sammy is about the music. DLR is about …DLR.
I really like Sammy. He has been on tour since 1976 When he was with Montrose. Went solo and his first tour was with Boston in 1978. ( first time I saw him live)
I do have a question… what has VH done since Sammy left(was fired)?

I would say that in some cases ditching the lead singer would be alright, but in the case of Aerosmith Tyler is the “face” of the band, the rest of the dudes look like “Tire and Lube” guys or something. (w/ Joe Perry being an exception…maybe)

noooooo wayyyy steven tyler was one of the most memorable people in aerosmith…when i first think of the band i think of him…theres no way anyone replace someone as classic as steven tyler

AC/DC it some say even better.

INXS tried it and flopped.

Van Halen did it and depending on who ask it was awesome or it was totally lame.

Journey did it. Of course I found out the the drummer can sing just as good as Perry.

The Doobies tried to…

The Cars tried out Todd Rundgren (meh) I like Todd and all but not in The Cars.

Notice the when Roy Orbison died the Traveling Willburies didn’t do as well…

Anyway… I think losing Steven Tyler will kill Aerosmith for sure. But in truth they haven’t really done anything great recently save for that blues album. When the 80′s died off at around 93′ round took a tailspin nose dive in my opinion and just got loud and angry.

I think that it is possible for a band to continue playing without their lead singer. However i doubt that any band would be the same or better for this case without the original group members.

Some acts, like the Beatles and Queen might have some issues, because the singers also happened to be the song writers. With other acts, that isn’t the case. For example, the last time I checked, Alice In Chains was still doing alright. Aerosmith is in the middle. There is no doubt that Tyler was huge influence on songwriting. But there is also no doubt that he wasn’t the only influence. I say wait and see what happens next.

Why not? ACDC did and they got a new lead singer and still rock to this day
