In the original "Alien" movie, there is a scene in which the three survivors are returning to earth, thinking that the Alien has been left behind. One of the survivors, I believe it was the black man, goes through a bulkhead doorway, searching for the Alien. As he passes through the doorway, the Alien leaps onto him from above.

To really understand what ensues, one would have to have read the book, which makes this scene even more horrible and scary.

As the man is attacked by the slobbering Alien, you see his body jerk suddenly upward just before he is pulled upward by the Alien. What just happened is a nasty habit of the Aliens that is only explained in the book.

It seems that they like to use their long tail like a flexible spear whenever they attack a human. So, while they are busy biting off the head, the tail is rammed up the rectum all the way up through the torso of the victim. Presumably, all life forms that the aliens encounter have a rectum.

Knowing about that extra "jerk" that is never explained to the viewing audience, I have always thought that scene was the scariest one I've ever seen.

The Exorcist, without a doubt. It had me scared for years. Couldn't go up into the attic by myself or see a priest without thinking of that movie. It's still creepy.

I think the remake of "The Shining" was better than Kubrick's version, since it followed the book more.

To me a good horror movie doesn't contain blood and guts and gore, but can really mess with your mind. "The Others" starring Nicole Kidman and "Stir of Echoes" with Kevin Bacon are two good horror movies in my book.

Of course, blood and guts and gore can help spice things up. The original "13 Ghosts" was ok, but the remake with Tony Shaloub (Monk) was better. "The House on Haunted Hill" is another one where I thought the remake was better, since the special effects in the original were a bit cheesy.

"Poltergeist" would have to be tops, though. What's so good about it is that it doesn't really start off as being scary, unless you consider a 5-year-old talking to the TV at 2 AM to be scary. Unlike other horror movies, you don't really find out why the ghosts were in the house, nor do we really learn why the activity is occurring, except it's sort of explained off-hand, when Mr. Freeling confronts his boss about having moved only the headstones, but not taking time to exhume and rebury the bodies.

"Paranormal Activity" was ok, but it probably would have been better had the guy not been such an idiot about the whole situation. Of course, that's just the ghost hunter in me talking.

Of course, nothing beats a good classic like anything by Hitchcock.

My mom is a big fan of J-Horror, like Ju-On (original version of "The Grudge") and Ringu ("The Ring"). I think they're ok, but the ones I did like a lot was "Shutter" and "Mirrors".

The scariest movie I ever saw was the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I think what scared me the most was the fact that it was based on a true story. REALLY CREEPY that a human could do something so evil.

How about... IT?! I watched it when I was a kid, really never watched a horror movie again in my life, it just scared the living cr*p out of me!!! I saw the beginning scene on tv a few months ago (little boy with the paper boat...) and it brought back all the terror I felt.

I know, I am sort of addicted to horror films, too. I mean, they scare me forever in a day, but it gets me excited to see what there is in the mind of people.
I am going to see Saw 6 around this halloween with my boyfriend, hopefully in a theatre. Except, he said they get worse as the numbers go up, and the other ones scare me. I try to just enjoy it because my brother loves blood, and I fear it. Over coming my fear to see what gore I can find. I really can't wait! I will get scared!
