Ask Mike: The Nobel Peace Prize
Hey Guys,
President Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize came as a surprise to many people, including the President himself. Some applauded the decision, while others wondered if Mr. Obama had done enough to deserve one of humanity’s greatest honors. No matter which side of the fence you’re on, odds are you wondered about the Nobel Prize committee and the way in which they choose a winner. Here’s what I found out.
The official site for the Nobel Peace Prize explains that the winners are chosen by a committee of five appointed by the Norwegian Parliament. The prize was started by Alfred Nobel, a prized inventor and chemist. Ironically, Mr. Nobel, the founder of the Peace Prize, invented one of history’s most destructive creations–dynamite.
Mr. Nobel died in 1896 a very wealthy man. His will asked for the creation of a foundation that would award prizes for great achievements in a variety of fields. One of the more controversial aspects of the will stated that the award was to be international in nature and be handled by Norway. Odd, considering Nobel was Swedish.
Over the years, great men and women have received the honor. Among them: Mother Teresa, Henry Kissinger, Lech Walesa, and Teddy Roosevelt. President Obama represents the third sitting American president to win. Occasionally, a group will win, rather than an individual. For example, in 1999 Doctors Without Borders received the Peace Prize.
If you’re interested in nominating someone for the Nobel Peace Prize, I have some bad news. The committee stipulates that only certain people can make a nomination. Among them: previous winners like President Obama. Perhaps you can ask him for a nomination the next time you see him.
And I can’t say I’d blame you for begging for a nomination. Over the years, the prize money has gone up substantially. Obama stands to receive $1.4 million dollars. That’s a lot of cash, but don’t worry–he’s not gonna blow it all on mom jeans. The president says he plans to donate the entire sum to charity.

The rest of the world, especially Europeans appreciate and respect President Obama more than
his American countrymen… As a transplanted Canadian of African and European descent living in America I can understand why the rest of the work appreciates President Obaman…
He doesn’t have that white man superior attitude of some previous presidents like Bush….
President Obama is a very good communicator and has an honest and refreshing approach to meeting nations on their turf yet with a heart for our nation’s safety at the center of his relations. He means to use his family tie with Islamic beliefs in dealing with Islam nations to the encouragement of good relations. However, that does not excuse some of the sweeping our health plan particulars under the cover of just getting the thing through congress. We need to see what we are getting. I do not approve of abortion being covered in any circumstance. If someone wants to abort their baby, it is that person’s responsibility to pay for their own abortion. That is taking someone else’s life who might be a genius, a loved member in another family at the least. Many people want to adopt. Life needs to be valued at both ends of the spectrum and all the way in-between.
Also, I do not approve of our health care system dependent on drugs which cause too many side-effects. I’m all for NATURAL care and that’s all I ever use. Antibiotics means against life. It goes downhill from there… all the drugs should be thrown in outer-space. Maybe it can be useful out there. Here they just kill people. It’s affecting our water table, as well. I agree we should take care of some basics – but I don’t see how that differs from what is currently allowed. Emergency has to take anyone – and we don’t have to pay anything for others’ health care. However, I think the government will get greedier trying to take care of budgeting because of all the loopholes they allow the rich, they will be unable to make a balanced budget and some government officials will help themselves to the money.
America is only good when Americans are good. I haven’t seen this occur especially with the democrat party. Special interests are always yanking at the purse.
That’s because the president is doing a exceptional job [its not even one year yet].It should not be a surprize, make peace and good luck trying it’s a tough[tuff] job i heard,as a black man he stood up to a lot of discrimination and critics but he still stood tall, trying to give us his best while still looking handsome and head strong on\in the media. This prize came a good time, some may or may not agree, after not getting the olympics request thing[you know what i mean]this should boost his spirit to know that he is a noble man created for this job.
Obama was not surprised he new he would get it months ago. My only question is, why him, what did he do to deserve this award?
I guess raising everyones taxes is all that is required to win this award.
At the risk of having my comment deleted, “WHAT???” field did he receive this for? I do not know, and do not intend to do a search to find out. A lot of people, including my spouse, still do not have jobs, and do not care- and the 1.4 million he’s giving up is not going to help them.
I am very disappointed that President Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize.Just one more thing to add to my list of corruption and deceit in the world! I am still waiting for the president to actually do SOMETHING,I have given up any hope.Yeah,I watch Glenn Beck every day on Fox News.I am not afraid to find out the truth about this government.Things are NOT LOOKING GOOD!
Very informative post. Great move on Obama’s part (as expected). This man will change our nation for the better. All we need is for people to give him a chance. (cough…cough… conservatives…)
Sorry, but I think the committee was way off base on this one. There are too many others who deserve it so much more. I think the committee was looking for exactly what they got “Publicity”… We need a new committee that bases their choices on the true worth of what a person has “accomplished”…
When the Nobel Committee wanted to award the prize to the US President, they should award it to the institution of the Presidency and not to the person who occupies it.
Please Nobel committee should not do it future, that is it should not select presidents or p.m. for the award.
Awarding it to the US presidents doesn’t hold good, is it going to change much. I dont think US going to implement the comprehensive disarmament plan, and it does not abandon the power to in the implementation of its foreign policy.
If it encourages or tacitly support a coup in Honduras what it means, and if Israel attack Iran nuclear facilities, who will control Israel and what US says about the Israel’s actions.
So what kind of US will contribute for the peaceful resolve of the world or regional conflicts. Dont the Nobel committee should take all these into consideration, before choosing a US President.
So in future, Nobel committee should avoid selecting the Presidents or Prime Ministers for the award.
why? he didn’t do anything.
Hey guys Im from the ramadan section! GO OBAMA!!!
It’s very noble of President Obama to actually donate the entire $1.4 million dollars to charity!!!!.I mean…WOW.. and not to forget Alfred Nobel too..It is indeed a commendable act….
You are tottaly right about what u said .
Many great people won the Noble Prize for doing many great things but Obama hasn’t done anything yet .
Even if he is going to donate all the money to the charity that doens’t make him a great person that deserve to win the prize .
People that win the Noble Prize are being put in the History .
It seems he don’t deserve that honor for just some promises or what do u people think ?
thnx ofr explaining it,
but i find it difficult to believe how such a small committee can select the most deserving winner out of so many nominations around the world, like how would they judge properly…it wud be very difficult to set a criteria
I think I would have preferred to wait and see if President Obama’s words become results before bestowing such an honour on him.
Like many non-Americans I think Obama has the capability to be a great president, but this honour has come too soon!
What is the purpose of keeping the Obama Nobel Peace Prize question at the top of the board for all this time? You have already demonstrated that there is a split along party lines, why are you encouraging this debate? Right or wrong the award will still be given out, move on.
I’m a strong supporter of President Obama, but I was disappointed to see this prize awarded to him right now. For one thing, the great majority of the people around the world who are confused about this are right. President Obama has not done anything near worthy of this prestigious award, though I certainly hope that he may end up being worthy of it. I do think the main reason it was awarded was because the rest of the world has enjoyed the way that President Obama has “apologized” (if that’s the right word) for the U.S.’s disregard of world opinion, and because…frankly…I think the Nobel committee just couldn’t resist the chance to just once more stick a thumb in Bush’s eye.
I support President Obama and the things he’s trying to do…but I think this award will hurt him politically.
I think maybe in the future he could do things that would be seen as worthy of a peace prize, but shouldn’t they have waited until he fulfilled promises first? For him to do those things that he’s going to get the prize for first? Just my thoughts.
He did not deserve Nobel Prize. There are many others who’ve actually helped people all their lives; who deserved this prize.
I think authorities at NoblePrize.org have made a biased decision.
In my eyes, they have degraded Nobel prize.
In other words, How can you compare someone like obama (who sits in white house, lives a luxurious life) with someone like mother Teresa?
Obama is a liar, he talks about change but does nothing. George Bush was a much better president; he didn’t make fake promises. He didn’t say anything which he couldn’t do. Obama got the power by lying to people. He said troops will be coming home; but he’s sending additional troops to middle east. I hope to see a better America, an America without Obama.
F-U Nobel Prize. You aren’t worth it!
I don’t know maybe I’m just stupid, but I still don’t get why Obama was awarded the Nobel Prize.
In my lifetime (80 years) the three worst Presidents of this country have been awarded a Peace prize – Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama, the nobel; Bill Clinton – well – you know!
Well, he is the first Foreign Born person to ever be President of the Untied States. He is the first President to bow before a Foreign King. He is the first President to celebrate Ramadan. He is the first President to slam the United States worse than Jimmy Carter. The only people not confused about him winning this are those who blindly follow him.
I think its ridiculous! Come on is everyone scared to say the truth. We heard him have a answer for everything during election. Akorn affiliations which now hmmm wasn’t this recently on the news( I am talking about recent news not the allegations during election of paying people to vote numerous times. Previous owner of stock in human coding implants which stock was sold before election but of course having stock in implants to identify us with a chip for terrorism was just a business investment, I am sure he doesn’t approve of human coding it was just for the money, and now Hilary is bigger into NATO than every before appointed by him. Seems to me now that time has passed and Obama is being looked at a little more constructively for what he is doing now and not by how bad the other presidents were, seems he is coming up short but what the heck its just the Nobel peace prize. He is far more deserving than people who spend all their time working towards unity and unselfishly give and dedicate there life for some of our greatest causes pleaaaassssee..so far I am not impressed. I got on board the Obama train for a while and it derailed so I am walking smart now and not afraid to say I am not happy nor do I like his brand of politics. Think Joe the plummer could do as good of job just not as elequent speaker. I am impressed congress for once in like never is working together but then if they didn;t well imagine what kind of personal slander they would receive if they said anything. Like every other president, I am wtg for all those things he said he would do..umm look it up on you tube for a friendly reminder to happen. Does everyone really believe Obama does all this by himself lmao. Tell me what he has done so great.. him not his aids and the thousands that work for him just him, to deserve the peace prize. Oh wait they had beer at the white house to solve a issue haha I am waiting for re-election time when the war gets worse or some other catastophe comes up to ensure his re-election. It will happen always does. My Dad always said don’t believe everything your read and only some of what you see. I mean military is trained to creat pre-planned distractions so other things can be done un-noticed. most of what we see and hear isn’t the real truth. So some of the things we see on TV may or may not be real. We really need to get smart. Obama himself said he owed his election to the marketing etc etc staff etc people he hired. So we saw all the hoopla, bought into it because we want peace between each other so bad. OK its done now lets see what he’s done. OK what has he done, I am waiting… woot I forgot about Guantanamo Bay, oh wait that wasn’t an achievement, thats as bad a the bridge to no where.ok still here…oh he gave a good speech at duke university and danced on Ellen ..like I said not impressed.
No offense, I don’t like president obama because: He’s friends with a terrorist,he allows abortion which kills babies,he doesn’t allow fund-raisers for schools, and he’s not helping the U.S!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m an Obama supporter and am not sure myself that he really deserves the Peace Prize yet. However, he has definitely altered the position of the US vis-a-vis the rest of the world in critically important ways by working to establish an attitude of collaboration rather than aggression and arrogance. I think that he was given the prize this early in his career reflects the fact that the rest of the world very much appreciates this change in stance.
I’m an american. I didn’t vote for obama and i choose to disown him as “my” president. He may be the US president but he’s not mine. I don’t agree with his policies, i think he is a liar with alterior motives. We would’ve been better off with Ms. Clinton as prez. (cough, cough, choke).
I think that the committee should have to wait until after someone does something instead of giving the Nobel Peace Award to someone that is in the process of doing something good. Like some of the previously listed people that won it, they had already accomplished the deeds and many still continued on to do more great things. President Obama has a lot of agenda on his plate but he hasn’t gotten the bigger things done yet. (like withdrawing our troops from Iraq) I think he should have been considered after a couple of years into all these things he is trying to accomplish, not before!
There is something that I do not have any doubt. Obama is a peace maker, (but be careful with the box and the close gates). Find a man, this days, that with all the power his choice leads always to reconciliation and you are in front of a peace maker. US cannot see it because prepotency always lead to impose point of view and that is the value that blind peace!!
I see it all the time, it is a kids play, where US waste it energy!!!
not from US…
obama made an outreach to the world muslim community. obama said he wants to work toward ELIMINATING nuclear weapons from the planet. for these efforts he won the nobel prize. he should be supported.
do we want peace between islamic peoples and non-muslims?
do we want to die in nuclear war? or die in a “dirty-bomb attack? think about it folks! live, don’t kill.
Republicans hate it because, he is for peace , there just a bunch of war mongers. Peices of crap like glen beck , rush limbaugh , pat oriely, they can all kiss my ass!!!
I guess they are encouraging Mr. Obama in advance to carry his vission in confidence by telling him indirectly don’t give up … I hope that would make sense to the doubtful … good luck mate
OK, I VOTED FOR HIM I LIKE HIM AT A PERSON OK HE HAS NOT KEEP MOST OF HIS PROMISES YES HE IS A GREAT SPEAKER BUT COME ON NOBEL PEACE PRIZE. I’M TELLING YOU THEY DID IT TO PISS BUSH OFF. MOTHER THERESA DEDICATED HER ENTIRE LIFE TAKING CARE OF THE THE POOR SHE HOWEVER IS WELL DESERVING OF SUCH A HIGH AND PRIVILIGED HONOR OBAMA ??? COME ON GUYS
For those of you wondering what Obama has done, go to the non-partisan website politifact.com and read about the promises he has kept and those he is working on. The world respects the man because he is not arrogant. He does as the bible says, shows humility, respect, and integrity. He has not stooped to the level of claiming racism. He is incredibly intelligent and does not make rash decisions. By the way, any decision the President makes is a difficult and complex decision otherwise someone else would have solved the problem before it reached him. As for the post about watching Glen Beck on Fox News for the truth…well, you just showed how ignorant you are. If you want the truth, you have to go to multiple news sources and do your own research… I was surprised that Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize, but I am proud that it was given to him. No matter what anyone thinks of the man’s policies, he is trying to do what he believes is best for this country, and he is not using fear to make people support him, not is he calling people “un-American” for disagreeing with him. Maybe we can grow as a nation and try using mutual respect when we talk to each other. If nothing else, Obama does that, regardless of what people say about him and his policies. And, that is Peace at it’s best!
Whether we agree or diagree on whether or not
Barack Obama should or should not have won the
nobel peace prize.I am just glad that we have a
president in the White House who actually going
to do some work.Unlike the previous administra-
tion.I am sure once president Obama gets this
awlful economy back on track, make the right
decision about afghan, and continue to promote
peace throughout the world,as well as get some
countries like North Korea, and Iran to talk about
disarming nuclear weapons. As well as stopping
the terrorists of the world from trying to destroy it.
He would have for sure earned that nobel peace
prize no matter how early it was given to him.
please move on …what a accomplishment “yes” but what are you wanting a arguement? of some sort? he is trying hard.Give him credit! be honest …It has been a while since we have had a President with real balls and intellegence together and a medium for mgmt.
Bush allowed Al Qaeda to attack NYC, so yeah, lots of Americans hate him. Too bad he let bin Laden escape into the mountains of Pakistan. The world has a job to do, and that is TO CLEAN UP BUSH’S MESS!
What a waste of 8 years for this country. Thank God he did not privatize security. That would have destroyed the system & cost seniors their monthly income.
I don’t know what he got it for either, making promises is one thing but keeping them is something quite different. someone above said Jimmy Carter didn’t deserve it either. I am not political, but I disagree with that person. Carter started and is still involved in Habit for Humanity. He at least even in heis old age is still helping people build homes for themselves. If he had not started that, there would be more homeless people than there is now. Also, Obama promised to bring home our soldiers, More have been killed off since he’s been in office. With our bases closed us in the U.S. we haven’t enough protection for our homeland and we are spread very thin across the middle east. When Korea starts up we are in big trouble. Obama is surely a handsome and seems like a good person, but even Oprah has done more than him and I don’t recall her getting Nobel Peace nomination. I agree that he should actually DO something first before getting an award. Even Dole and Leo Dicaprieo have done more than our current president since he has been in office. Even if he donates the money, who and where is he donating it to? Hopefully to the United States. I also do not understand why unemployment is counted by only people on unemployment. They don’t count those whose checks have run out and still haven’t found work. They need to do a “real” count of those unemployed, not just those receiving unemployment checks. Somewhere the ones who’s checks have run out seem to be left out and they get no help from anyone. What’s up with that? Obama may turn out to be a great president, but he needs to show it first. As of yet, I’ve only heard of promises, and have not seen any fulfilled. He may deserve it when and if he stops this war and helps others to not start up. We need the Nobel Peace Prize, only when we have true WORLD PEACE!!!!! and as of yet no one has earned that prize in my opinion. Isn’t that what the award is really for?
In regards to the comment posted on October 9th, 2009 at 8:23 pm by Vick. I totally agree with you! “”WHAT INDEED???”" does Mr. Obama deserve this award? I want to know under what field did he receive this for? I do not know, and do not intend to find out. A lot of people, including my spouse, still do not have jobs, and the 1.4 million he’s giving up is not going to help them.
Please read the following points.
- The world is passing through the worst recession ever. All the globe is affected.
- All people around the world passing through a depression about “HOW THE NEXT DAY WILL BE?”. “WILL ALL BE NORMAL AGAIN” OR “JUST WORLD WILL COME TO DISASTER” etc.
- The world is suffering with Terrorism because of this people start feeling hate for Islamic world and they are becoming more isolated and more anger inside with jealous (perhaps) for this partiality.
- Countries like Iran and Korea commenting negatively to use Nuclear Power and that does not help at all making depression of the people around the world to Optimistic Tomorrow.
- America leads the world economy, if something wrong happens to US economy, all world economy breaks down and the image of the America was destroyed by Bush administration.
Here comes this man OBAMA and what he did ?
- He give hopeful statements with confidence for improving financial condition
- He makes dialogue between west and islamic world to make all world feel secure (not only americans) but also to islamic world that they are not ignorant.
- He talks about health care for the reason that even if condition of people are not good, still they can afford their family health care.
- He tried to make most catalyst thing to be neutralize “Nuclear Bomb threat” so that people around the world can gain confidence again about future that there is a HOP, to make them think that there is a tomorrow with all good again.
- He is restoring the confidence in individuals and trying to make peace “from terrorism, financial threat & nuclear threat” so that makes all world feel confidence to run the business again, to make people spend money again etc.
- & HE IS IMPROVING IMAGE OF USA which almost is center of all world economy and all political issues. He made feeling that USA wants peace and friendship around the Earth.
NOW I ASK…
WHO IN THE HISTORY HAS HANDLED THIS MUCH COMPLICATED ISSUES ALL TOGETHER?
I agree that the results still have to come, his (obama’s) plans still on the way but Nobel community gave him price for his efforts and to BOOST the confidence in people (also in him) so that people see his efforts with Optimism and the recession age can be finished.
Nobel community is trying to contribute to make peace and recession away.
Republicans hate it because, he is for peace , of war mongers. Republicans like glen beck , Rush Limbaugh G,O,P Drug Addict. Newedit Hotpaints Gingrich.
All want a military industrail complex running the country.
Peace that’s for the other side.
The day O’bama won, the 9th, I think, I had a mini stroke and lost sight in one of my eyes forever Tell me life is fair, ha!
I think that one of the things the committee considered was that Obama restored pride in his fellow Americans. He returned HOPE to this country. And, he respects the citizens of the world, listening to the leaders of other countries instead of just going into their countries and saying, “I know what is right for you” like our prior President did.
Thank goodness this is an unbiased group of people who have nothing to gain from their selection so they can be objective.
Ok first up i’m a Sri Lankan living in Sri Lanka, and i don’t really care whether Obama deserved it or not, But i just want to point out my unbiased view on this.
I’m not trying to sound controversial but ”Obamafication of the USA” seems like a well marketed attempt to develop the horrible image of america, in the eyes of rest of the world.
Attributes of Obama and the reasons behind them( How they were used) or in other words why Obama is the best person to develop a good image of america…
Black guy- to address the people who think that america is a country where racial profiling is practiced even today. Having a black guy as a president eliminates even a possibility of a debate.
White mother – To give the white folks (majority) some assurance,
”Hussein”- A stand out selling point to cool down the Muslim world,
Family man- To address the people who thinks that USA is messed up culturally
and finally a weak opponent – JM, Who actually guaranteed a win for Obama ( Palin sealed the deal).
Now Getting back to your question, Nobel prize will only add up to His impressive CV and clear the doubts any one who was not satisfied with his presidential campaign and the huge image building process.
And remember Gandhi never won a Nobel peace prize but Yasser arafat did.Kinda questions the credibility huh?
Mr.Erratik
I think that da ppl who think that Barack Obama do not deserve the Nobel Peace Prize are idiots!!!!!!!! He deserved that award completely. WHY u may ask, its because he is DA FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!! That is a big enough achievement! Dr. Martin Luther King got one for standing up fo Equal rights, Nelson Mandela, and Rosa Parks go one for just refusing to get out of her seat. All she did was say no. There have been countless times wen i refused to get out of my seat and where is my prize at??? EXACTLY!!! OBAMA DESERVES THIS and everyone else who thinks differently can kick rocks.
The much of the International Community can breath a sigh of relief after 8 years of questionable acts of aggression endemic of the Bush Regime.
The mind-set vehemently opposed to President Obama’s winning of the Nobel Prize is comprised of such a narrow spectrum, that a consistent pattern is easily identifiable.
The election of the first African American President stands as a monument towards meaningful progress after nearly 350 years of open alienation, via, Chattel Slavery!
This mind-set is also greatly responsible for the lack of care lent towards the decimation of the indigenous people savagely slaughtered for their land by interlopers representing the Imperialistic deigns of the English Crown.
he deserve it for having to put up with all these ungrateful
stupid American, who expect him to save the world in less then 9 months . you forget that you left wing people are the ones who made the mess that you want him to fix. you greed’s were sleeping in the 8 yrs when all this mess started
No matter if we agree or disagree, President Obama has won the Nobel Peace Prize, including over 4 million dollars. The most charitable thing he could possibly do with that is pay back part of our American national debt. Charity begins at Home.
why are peopkle mad? :s
For you who think Obama is doing such a wonderful job, and think his “changes” are so great, I have a question for you. Do you think the destruction of America, i.e. putting our country in millions of debt, doing away with the best health care system in the world, working hard to pass laws to silence the Christian voices, working to stop the freedom of speech (like talk radio), running down our country to our enemies, and so many other harmful things he is doing, will bring about improvement to our country?
Let me answer that for you because most of you liberals are so blind that you cannot see the writing on the wall.
No it will not improve our courtry, unless you think living under a dictatorship is an improvement. Wake up before it is too late. And NO he did not deserve the Nobel Peace Prize.
He only received the Nobel Peace Prize because he is black. None of his policies have resulted in any world peace. Besides, he was nominated only a 11 days after taking office. So much for fairness!!! But then, this is the affirmative action president and the peace prize comes along with it.
Mighty strange! What has Obama actually done so far to award him the distinction of the Nobel Peace Prize? Another “sign” as you may, that things are rapidly heading downhill in this big old world.
I’m from Denmark. In my opinion America is in a suicidal mood; unfortunately it seems she wanna and she’s gonna pull the rest of the world down with her- like a Nation of 300 milions Hitler-come-lately’s. All this hatred!
When Clinton was a lame duck, the rest of the world had a brief relief ( and why? ho ho ho..).Those were the days! And now comes Obama: for the first time since the Vietnam war at least someone in the white house inspires the rest of the world into beliving something good might come out of american foreign policy. And so you hate him.
So why did he get the prize? He gave hope to the rest of the world.
Obama = joke
he’s disgusting
All fine trying to justify the nomination by what he has said and done over the past eight months.
Trouble is they nominated him BEFORE he took office. The 10 day spoken of by the liberal media was the deadline, not the date the Nobel Prize committee actually received the letter of nomination.
Definitions:
Recession – When your neighbor loses his job.
Depression – When you lose your job
Recovery – When Obama loses his job
Even Hugo Chavez says he doesn’t deserve it. It would be interesting to know who recommended him for it, but this will cannot be known for 50 years, so much for transparcy in this regard. It was a devious ploy by the europeans, and hailed by islamic fanatics, to put him even further into a crack and hard place in determing where to send more troops to Afganistan or yield to the liberals and leave a token force there to appease the right who recognize the need to win the war on terror (OOPS! My bad, that is not the correct terminology anymore)
As the President of the only superpower in a world that is beseiged with conflict, greed and environmental devastation, Barak Obama is extremely important. Fortunately he is full of promise and seems to be rapidly heading this world towards great changes. If he comes through with these promises, he may go down in history as the greatest leader the world has ever known, or at least one of the best at a time when he was most needed. The Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to honour his efforts and inspire him to do more, because we all need him to.
It’s funny how many non-Americans appreciate President Obama more than Americans.
wwwwoooowwww, no one who has a NOBEL PEACE PRIZE has their panties in a bunch. Only people complaing don’t have one. All obama’s critics ever do is sit around and bitch? They are very jealous of his success why? Because his resume looks like this and he is only 48: Yale graduate (president of club). Senator, President of U.S. , Nobel prize winner. nuff said people hate “OVERACHIEVERS.”
I am very happy that the president Obama has won the nobel peace prize.
Well done , Sir keep it up to do more to make more peace around the world that is what people wants now adays, in order for the new generation not to carry out what all the old generations has practice all thier lifes, in the 15 century to the 20th century hoping for it to stop.
So, anyone who is able to donate 1.4 million dollars is now able to ” BUY ” a Nobel Peace Prize?
As an Australian, I have to agree with the above posts in regards to the US image, Bush vs Obama.
While the next conservative will argue with me about petty little things like policies, promises etc, Admit it – the majority judge countries by the media.
For the last 8 years America has been led by, dare I say… a bigot? And thus international (perhaps Australian only?) focused on American bigots (or ‘true’ Americans).
But Barack Obama (seems to) presents himself as a modern man: rational, well groomed, intelligent, understanding etc.
And thus US’s international image is slowly changing, international media no longer focuses on the patriotic bigots in their star spangled top hats waving flags and believing the most absurd propaganda. Instead recently, our media focuses on informed, rational.. sane Americans.
So yes, considering how touchy international relations (big ego’s) really are, I can see how Obama was granted the Nobel Peace prize.
On a side note, to most all postee’s on this thread, is english your native language? (not arrogance, merely curiosity).
Since when do they give the award to a snake oil salesman who spends like a drunken sailor. He tells people what they want to hear.I have heard from people say I they think he is a typical con man.I voted for him,SORRY me.
Neil
lol… Above comment says Obama is for peace… yes.. that must be why he keeps sending more troops to afghanistan. lol
I for one am glad Obama was able to get the Nobel prize…its something I would like to get. And, now that they have obviously lowered the bar… I assume I am in the running. Possibly just for mentioning it in this post.
I don’t get it. Obama is an exceptional guy, but the Nobel Prize wasn’t the right award to give him. They made a real mistake. What peace did Obama make?
I personally, don’t want the man in office nobody has the right to apologise for AMERICA Ifought for it I am proud to be an AMERICAN ,Obama has done nothing for theAmerican people except to put most of us into poverty.GOD BLESS AMERICA and allAMERICAN VETERANS AMERICA is inDISTRESS the people need to stand up,contact your congressmen , ask them what you can do for OUR country.
I am so glad that none of you conservatives were on the Nobel Peace Prize committee. Shame on all of you who are not behind your president no matter who he is. I wish you could resign from being a US citizen and let those from other countries who wants to live here and become a citizen replace you. Even though you do not agree with the present president’s policies, does not mean you should not respect what he is at least trying to do which is alot more than the last few presidents that we have had. Pres. Obama has taken on more in his few monthes in office than the past president did in his eight years in office.
While I respect Obama’s intentions for peace around the world, he is still our Commander of Chief of the most aggressive army in the world today.
If not ‘on” then his finger is ‘behind’ the trigger of many guns shooting many civillians right NOW… this minute.
He inherited this situation but it IS a fact
An uncomfortable fact.
As Mike pointed out in the initial blog President Obama was as surprised as anyone else by this nomination. So why do you people use it as an opportunity to give him a good verbal kicking? He certainly doesn’t deserve that. I think you Americans are so lucky to finally have a president with some moral integrity, lets hope it rubs off on you all. I think if you asked President Obama about this prize he would have wanted to receive it when he’s finished. It reflects the enormity of the expectations on him, one man. Let him get on with his job with your full support and stop whingeing.
Don’t quarrel about this, the Nobel Peace Prize committee did the right thing, i support Mr. Obama.
Lol “tells people what they want to hear”
“there are WMD in Iraq”.
Saturday Night Live has this guy pegged.
All mouth no shoes.
All hat no cowboy!
The brainwashed college children all bought his BS.
ACORN paid the rest!
Whitehairs all protest!
Well unforunately the young are the only ones that will suffer. America is for a while longer the best place to live! This OBAMA guy is doing his best to screw everything up! Sorry kids you put him in! God Bless America we used to be the home of the free!
