How how times have changed.
It used to be when I was working in the industry we did our updates to cause the least inconvenience to our user community. That usually meant we worked on a Sunday night or Monday morning. Least disrupting to our users. Friday night, you have to be kidding. I bet that most of the users do not have to get up and go to work on Saturday morning.
Don’t you think of your user community.
Or is the over time pay to much for you to take care of a couple of programmers on a Sunday rather then on a Friday.
Think of your customers and not yourself.
Why you are doing your scheduled maintenance why don’t you look into your outrageous policy on deleting questions posted on here. Have you ever heard of the right to free speech? I am sick of my questions along with others getting deleted because someone else doesn’t agree with my viewpoints. Everyone should have the right to voice their opinion without you taking that away!

Well, I have no problem with the site being updated. I realize that sites need to be changed and updated from time to time. But I do have a problem when the obvious things never seem to be fixed. So yahoo I hope that you take this update seriously and fix the many flaws that are found on this site. I still enjoy using it very much so, but its better without the trolls and spam the site sees on a daily basis.

What would happen if Google came up with a Q&A, they may have one I do not know about, with no shutdown on Friday or Saturday prime time? You would get into paying attention to your customers, right?
Look at your server logs and find the least used time and then schedule your updates,
Or, tell us users why it has to been at that time, your server account require it been done at that time.

As usual, no clue to if any “visible changes will be seen”. So when the “Yahoo Answers” category gets flooded for what changes they made in the site, refer all askers to the suggestion board.
This probably means more useless cosmetic changes. Why not surprise everyone and fix the issues that the Community has been after you to fix for… Oh, I don’t know, two years now????

Does this include the past software update where the thumbs up and down were automatically generated and you never announced it? Whatever you plan on doing, it won’t work anyway as most knowledgeable webmasters will tell you to stop implementing unnecessary algorithms. Now I get to start reading the new Dan Brown novel I purchased… note to Yahoo; please remember one important thing: forget about the advertisers who won’t give you two cents on the dollar when your stock keeps fluctuating because of these types of outages. Your customers do realize the convenience of a free service, however, you’re not being totally upfront and concise in your intentions. When 360 first started- you had a great thing going, then you revamped the profile system in the name of privacy, then you use WordPress hosting for your own blog platform, then you consciously debated the rights and wrongs of the top contributor badges, which are blatantly being abused, and decided a user had to have a certain percentage to get that badge. Please focus on what really needs to be acquired- there are always three sets of rules to follow and in this order: NECESSITY, CONVENIENCE and LUXURY. Right now Yahoo Answers is a convenient luxury. Kind regards, a yahoo user of over 10 years.
Those maintenance works are an ABSOLUTE MUST regarding the immense amount of bugs coming up every day in Yahoo! Answers! I only hope that some maintenance will be done to the Yahoo! staff at the same time. Removing questions and answers, closing accounts and never saying why they do it reminds me a bit of a Soviet state behavior… Wonder if they publish this contribution at all

While you’re at it, try to figure out why someone can violate the guidelines to get someone suspended yet not suffer any punishment for doing so. I was attacked and had 26 reports in 30 hours. This is called Stalking!! I was stalked, my answers used against me, some up to a year old, and my account was suspended by a person or group that targeted me in one sitting. DO the right thing, Yahoo…Forget about my suspension, I don’t care..Suspend the attacker(s)

To fix what? Not like what needs fixing is getting fixed. There’s MANY trolls in the section that I frequent most- about 10, and I can only imagine how many there are in other sections. Yahoo needs to do their job and QUIT FIXING SOMETHING IF IT ISN’T BROKEN!

If something needs fixing – and I can see from many comments that somethnig does – they have to do it somehow. Yahoo Answer Team, thanks for letting us know, and don’t worry about negative comments. Any forum or chatroom has people who have to whinge (and I do, too but I need a good reason and I whinge short and to the point:-).
I like Yahoo answers but feel sorry for people who are lost on Friday night without it. How about a real friend? Or a book? Or learning another language? Or writing a letter? Or maybe writing a book? Or spending half an hour with an elderly neighbour? Or baking a cake? Or trying to find answers for yourself (I find answers to many questions that I answer doing a very quick research on the net).

You think you guys can fix the fact that when my contacts ask a question, I get it in my mail box in a timely fashion, instead of two days later? It is a waste of time opening e-mails of resolved questions, that I would have liked to answer in the first place.
Why does the site have to go out of service for them to perform their maintenance? I’m sure there’s a way that they could keep the site functional, but they just don’t want to give us all that benefit.

I had my entire Yahoo account suspended and deleted and I am no longer allowed to sign into it all because I asked a question that had the word ‘horny’ in it. All of my other 4 questions were completely harmless and G-rated.

I hope the updates will allow us to report obvious point gaming when a person has their answer chosen as best for the same question posted supposedly by 5 different askers 7 times in a row .. & instead of deleting the question & upping the answerers % you realize it is the person receiving that BA for everyone of those questions who% you are upping is the one creating those accounts to enhance their status , but you allow this person to gain Double their % by deleting the question & do nothing knowing they are the one posting the ? & choosing themselves as best answer EVERY TIME. makes a one question what are you people thinking or is this your buddy??

Usually “a few” is considered no more than 2, give or take. As a webmaster myself, I know things can go wrong, problems can occur, but it’s now been 6 and a half hours since 9 PM PDT.
I hoped I would’ve been able to get back on Y!Answers to help people. But unfortunately, I’m not.
Please get your stuff together and put the site back online please. Or at least give us a heads up on what you guys are actually doing, changing or trying, so the people with certain knowledge regarding the matter can give suggestions.

Will you correct the issue of senidng notices when our contacts post Questions? It’s annoying to receive a notice from our contacts 3-4 days after they posted only to discover it resolved.
Sure hope it will be better sometime Saturday, I’m not counting Chickens, However, I do see NASA replacing their Shuttle with Pigs for all future Space Travel before you correct all the issues you have with your site.
Please fix the multiple accounts kind of guys that do nothing for any forum, anyone in the motorcycle forum with the name of bart in the user name comes to mind.
Level one users should be limited in hos wuch they can put in an answer since everyone I’ve reported with the stupid Nike spammer ad has run their answer down over a page long eating up bandwith, and wasting everyones ime.
In the motorcycle section there should be a FAQ tab. I see what motorcycle should I get…, or how do I learn how to ride a motorcycle…, or how do I get a llicense… every time I log in. If that information was under a frequently asked question tab folks could get their information more quickly and move on to important matters in the forum.
There should be a different section for geographic locations as well. Why are people in Britain asking where to buy a motorcycle from people that live in the US, The same goes for those India. Just because some of them speak English doesn’t mean they should be in the same forum. the distance is too great to offer any real help.
The last thing that needs to be fixed is the number of people asking about pocket bikes, or mini choppers. These are not motorcycles, and really should be in a section where people ask about toys, and hospital charges. Having to wade through some 12 year old kid’s question asking about something that will never be road legal, that they don’t have the money for anyway is really old for me at least.

How is it down for “a few hours” when it has been down for about 8+ hours for me? I am sorry to read all the negative comments. YA has been an important diversion for me through some personal really stressful times.
I agree with some remarks, there is some “fixing” to be done, but with the enormous number of questions and answers, I’m thinking the staff is not enough to give a lot of attention to the appeals. Probably there are not enough people to actually read and evaluate the appeals. Still, I think you do a pretty good job keeping this site functioning. Thank you and please ensure this site continues.

I understand needing a scheduled maintenance, but the length of time seems a little extreme. The next time you have a scheduled maintenance that is going to last more than a couple hours, even overnight… please be more considerate of your users and post the ACTUAL time it will be unavailable.

I think you ought to monitor answers in the family and relationship area. Cut out all the abusive & foul language and deny multiple questions. refer asker to best answers section when a qustion has already been asked and resolved. How many teenager think somebosy likes them, wants to find a gf/bf, has been cheated on, and etc. It would give answerers a chance to concentrate on more serious questions. for some reason I think all this downtime is going to be dedicated to cosmetic surgery and nothing to improve the site.

I agree the Niki Spammer is really annoying. I see it in at least 1 out of every 4 questions that I view. One time he posted twice in the same question. Also another annoying one is the one that has that says hope this solves your problem. A few times I had to report the same thing about 5 times for one question. This is ridiculous. It takes time away from those who are contributing something worth while to have to report them. We need better spam blocking.
