Planned Maintenance
UPDATE: Maintenance was finished overnight and Answers is fully working again. Thanks for your patience!
We have some planned maintenance scheduled on Tuesday, August 4, 2009, from 1:00 a.m. PST (Pacific Standard Time).
Don’t worry though, there are heaps of other things to do on Yahoo! to fill your time! Here are a few ideas:

Book a summer getaway? How long do you spect this maintenance will last. Ballpark, need to know how long to book it. ;-D
For some reason your link up there to the new home page didn’t work right for me, I had to click on the Try It Now button at the top of my old home page. Pretty cool new home page though.

the maintenances usually last about 3 to 5 hours.
The problems, glitches bugs and general confusion can last from 2 days to 2 weeks afterwards, because we manage to find combinations of usage they never dreamed of, so couldn’t test for.
Rumour has it, some of this maintenance is to fix problems that came up after the last (unplanned) outage 2 weeks ago (like Thumbs coming and going when you refresh). There should be some new stuff coming in too, there haven’t been any for months now, and late last year they promised some.
Horoscopes? You really are trying to tell people that horoscopes can predict your future? Yahoo, how about you join us in the 21st century and leave the Dark Ages behind, eh? Think about it.

What is the chance you will remove the thumbs down ? Some users abuse this for childish reasons, Keep the Thumbs Up and the Report.

Sure. 1 AM PST means that it will be 4 AM on the east coast. No biggie.
But if the past is any measure it will just be basically down for the whole day. It will be mucked up the next day.
Constant “breathers”, maintainence on YA and all the services. I miss the good old days when everything just worked even if you had to pay for it and still had nobody to contact if there was an issue.
Maybe since you partnered with Microsoft you can get some IT guys who know how to do things.
Should that be PDT? I dunno, I get those things mixed up but time search says PDT. Are we going off PDT tomorrow? I don’t keep up with that unless the boss yells at me for being too late or too early.
Thanks for that information… one more ? when people on purpose stall a game is there something that can be done…..

OMG, It’s about freaking time!!! Please tell me that this maintenance will fix up the array of glitches that have come up recently…

-the whole answer-rating fiasco
-problems with showing vote tallies for questions in “in voting” status
…and much more.

For a week I have not been getting emais from yahoo when my contacts post a question.Could you fix that for me please.There are others with the same problem.Is this just a glitch?I miss hearing from yhem.Thanks so much…Judie

Though I am hooked on Y!A I still believe that it can be improved greatly
e.g. when I go to the advanced search it does not sort by recent on top which is important basic need.
I am going to the library to check out some books/movies!!! As we’ve seen b/4, these “glitches” sometimes s-t-r-e-t-c-h out for a few days afterwards.
No since sitting around being “bored”…

I agree with Lynn. Notifications for Comments would be great. I don’t know of anyone who returns to the question after it’s resolved, but I bet if we knew there were more comments, more useful discussion could be had by all.

I hope one of the things you fix is this 999 error that i keep getting all the time. I know my machine doesn’t have any bugs or viruses on it. I also get that 999 error in the middle of the night. So i know it isn’t the net work. As a matter of fact i have already talked to them about it. Please’ Fix your buggy site.

But the bugs with the thumbs, voting and that god awful 999 error have GOT to be fixed! I even get the 999 error on my LINUX box!!!…for crying out loud!

While you’re at it, why don’t you make some productive changes for once, some that actually mean something? For instance, the way you remove questions. It is my understanding that if at least two ‘ reliable ‘ users report a question, it will be removed regardless of its content. Is that right? If so, it’s a poor way to operate this site. There are people who have some very serious questions they need answers to, but end up losing their question to indiscriminate removal of them by Answers. In case you’re unaware of it, you have users who many in the Answers community refer to as ‘ trolls ‘. In other words, these are people whose sole purpose is to report questions and get them removed just for the pure pleasure of it. How about you deal with this issue instead of some of the petty things you’re always concerning yourselves with? Geez don’t you think it’s about time you do something to actually improve this site…?

I hope they fix the spell checker and the thumbs up and down buttons on YA. The buttons keep changing the count by a lot.

I love yahoo answers. Everytime l ask a question l get a reply very fast and l love to read all the answers l receive and well l have to
say they are very impressive. Even though some people are rude and all l think that maybe they had a bad day and well they need some time off and not reply at all to any questions people are asking. Well as for me lm always happy and well lma continue like that.Im about to start a new semester at college this august and well lma start working next week. Im so exited and l cant wait.

I agree with Misslabeled, who agrees with Lynn. It’d be pretty awesome to have comment notifications, or something to make it stand out. Bill’s right about having thumbs down removed, it’s not a bad idea. Steadfast’s comment about the search feature is pretty neat, too.
I mean, if that isn’t happening this go-round, it’d be pretty nice if it happened in the future. Surely there are already scheduled maintenance plans for today.

y/a is a very good hyde park …..i was new comer …with computer level 00 …..learnt a lot ….in few months got over 11000 points …..yesterday my almost 7 best answers …..questions have been deleted ….there was nothing wrong …..questions …were various tributes to imam hussain by europian historians …..on which my comments being so positive ……best answers …..but questions deleted for nothing ….this is injustice …….and on the contrary …a question ….actually only filty open abuses ……and also reported that these are abuses ….was not deleted…..i donot know y/a management will take action……YAHOO/ANSWERS TEAM …TO READ ……IMPORTANT…..thanks

Please fix the 999 error that people have been getting when linking to images on legit image sites like imageshack (and flickr, which you own). I often use photos in my questions and answers so this is making the site virtually unusable for me. : (

Why does yahoo answers have like the worst programmers? Youtube and Wikipedia don’t have these problems. Neither does any other website need weekly breaks from use.
