You asked, we listened

Back in March, we launched the “Suggested Questions” module on the homepage. Suggested Questions are intended to provide our most active users with a list of questions we think match their area of expertise.

Since the launch, we have been reviewing your feedback about this feature and have now made some improvements that include:

  • Resolved questions will be removed more efficiently to leave you with only open Suggested Questions to answer.
  • Questions will be matched to you more quickly so you can always see the freshest and most relevant Suggested Questions.
  • Relevancy has been improved to ensure we deliver your questions only to the most appropriate answerers.

Still not seeing Suggested Questions?  Remember, you need you to be active on a topic for a certain amount of time to build up enough information on your areas of expertise before we can start offering you Suggested Questions.

We hope these changes will improve your experience with Suggested Questions. Remember that you can modify your profile settings if you want to see a different number of Suggested Questions. Only you, not the wider community, will see the questions related to your activity.

Please continue to share your constructive feedback with us and we will keep working on making this feature more relevant and faster in delivering the questions you want to see.

  2. I took one of your polls and sugested that you stop the recurring questions appearing 6-10 times, often 3 in a row.
    But it is still hapening.

  3. It would be great if we had an additional setting related to the new section. I would rather that questions drop off once a certain number of answers has already been posted to a question.

If, for instance, a question has more than 8 answers I will not likely be answering that question and would like that one to drop off of my list.

  6. I can see that the suggested questions are now more relevant than they used to be, good job! But I still get questions that I don’t want to answer, like “How do I post a question on Yahoo! Answers?”. I got three of those on my front page. Oh well…
    Still, it’s a good job. :)

  8. I lot of questions can fall through the cracks and remain unanswered. I’d prefer that you limit the suggested questions to those that have gone unanswered.

  9. Still sometimes, when I ask a question, only part of my question appears. This has been happening for ages.
Then I have to go to the part asked posted question, click Edit, and try to retype the full question. Almost impossible to remember what I said. And annoying too. If my question was a longish one, I usually can`t remember it word for word, so I just delete and don`t bother to ask it again.

  10. If so, why do I still see “resolved” questions four days old, under “Questions that may interest me?”

  11. Hmm…how about instead of adding **new** features, you fix the things that NEED to be fixed first!!!

    What a concept!!

  12. I mainly focus on one section of Yahoo answers, but when I want those type of section to come up first on the home page. They are all completely different from the type of questions I answer in.

THANK YOU!….Emily. I couldn’t have said it better. I’ve been thinking along those lines for several years, now. But I wonder if Y! will actually listen……..

  15. 1. You still are “suggesting” questions when with many answers already supplied, which is a waste. Also, clicking on the X of a question just puts it in an endless loop of green circular timers. So that is also not working.

Don’t be so proud when it still is not fixed. Trying is good, but you should still declare this function in beta testing like the many others that still do not work.

  16. I like the new suggest you answer but I would hope that the systems learns from questions I delete from that list.

  17. Again you are basically doing nothing. I think there are more pressing issues like fixing the Community Moderation system which is a farce. Of course, I am sure that you will take the ostrich approach to this problem

  18. So why doesn’t the Answers staff listen to our complaints and do something about the rampant chatting in the sports categories or the dumb practice of allowing users to block you from reading their questions (and reporting violations), including questions you have answered?

Get real, Answers. You guys don’t listen to anybody.

  19. Hey, it would be nice if I can get more than just one type of question in the “suggested questions” module

i work on chemistry most of the type…
but sometimes it ’s good to take on a question in an another category

perhaps you can make a box with a drop down list to choose the category type; another to choose the popularity of the question (a.k.a number of answers for it) and perhaps language, too.

so everyone can get their hand dirty ^_^

i haven’t touched web programming for so long…
but my experience tell me that you only need to make an query on your database for this kind of task

i don’t mean to go over your shoulder, but if i can contribute something, please do tell

hope the community will grow even more
    best regards

  21. The Yahoo! and Wikipedia features in Answers is a great help.

I find that the # of answers given and the # of answers when responding do not compare in all categories.

  22. First of all, thank for building a website as helpful as Yahoo Answers. I’ve used this website to seek information and to provide advice to others. It’s definitely a rewarding feeling.
The only issue I have is with people not choosing a best answer. If I’m going to take the time to answer someone’s question, I think that they should have the courtesy to select the answer that best met their needs, whether or not that would be my question.
People who do not select a best answer should be docked a certain number of points.

  24. I’m not familiar with the “Suggested Questions” feature, but I have definitely
noticed a dramatic and wonderful improvement to the “20-questions” pages.

Gone are the “Resolved” questions from 2 months ago that kept popping up
when I would refresh a page — for example, page #30 out of 40 total pages.

Also, there often was a hiccup whenever I clicked from one page to the next
    – for example, from page #10 to page #9. If page #10 had questions which
were “18 hours ago to 21 hours ago”, for some reason page #9 would have
questions from “13 hours ago to 15 hours ago”.

Worse yet, whenever I would “refresh” a page like that, sometimes all of the
questions would all of a sudden be from “1 day ago”. All this seems to have
    been fixed now.

    THANK YOU, Y!A — THANK YOU, Y!A — THANK YOU, Y!A — THANK YOU.

  26. The same incomprehensible questions (which is probably why they haven’t been answered) keep coming up. There are literally dozens of unanswered questions (or those with only a few answers) at any given time, so I fail to see why the same one or two should come up every single time.

In theory, it’s a good idea, but it’s basically useless as implemented now.

  27. This is a feature that I have not found very useful. Just because I answer a question about blueberry muffins means that I want to keep answering questions about blueberry muffins (although I do make a wicked muffin).

Please attempt to fix the constant error messages(Ooops!) that I recieve when I try to answer from anything but my own page. I also get the oopsie page when I answer questions and when I ask a question. This is discouraging.

I have asked several times…when will you listen?

  28. Thanks for this feature. I like it a lot.

Indeed, I have been noticing some recent improvements. Up till the last few days ago, the suggested questions box was utterly useless to me because I spend most of my time in R&S; yet all my suggested questions were in the yahoo products category… I rarely answer questions there.

Thankfully, R&S questions have finally started appearing in my suggested questions box within the last few days.

  29. I’ve always thought it was a useful feature, and I for one am thankful that you took my suggestions (expanding the “age” range of the suggested questions, to consider 2-3 days-old Qs that have few answers).
I often find interesting Qs to answer, and the ones I don’t like are easily collapsable.
    Thanks YAT :-D
