Express yourself!
Some of the community recently asked us to clarify what images and avatars are acceptable on Answers. Avatars and images are both great ways to personalize your Answers profile. They add your creative touch and can express who you are and what you’re interested in. But some users are confused about what’s OK and what’s not OK to display.
How do I choose an image or avatar for my profile?
To choose an image or avatar:
- Go to Answers: answers.yahoo.com
- Click “My Profile.”
- Sign in to your Answers account with your Yahoo! ID and password.
- Click “Edit My Info” and go to the subheading, Picture
You will see the default gray “No Picture.” To use a Yahoo! Avatar, click “Edit my Yahoo! Avatar,” choose one from the gallery, and then select the “Use my Yahoo! Avatar” button on your Answers Profile.
To use an image on your Answers Profile, upload one to your Yahoo! 360° profile and then click the “Use my Yahoo! 360° Picture.”
What is an acceptable image on my Answers profile?
We’re eager to ensure that the images you use to personalize your profile reflect our broad and diverse community that is full of passionate askers and answerers. But it is important to remember that Answers Profile images are subject to the Community Guidelines. Members who violate the Community Guidelines are at risk for review and possible termination of their Answers accounts. In extreme cases, members risk losing their Yahoo! ID, and consequently, access to all other Yahoo! services.
Being mean or obscene
Because kids as young as 13 may participate in Yahoo! Answers, sexually explicit and vulgar language and images are not allowed on the site.
Several of you have asked for clarification about what constitutes a sexually explicit image. We understand that one image can generate different opinions in the community. But from a Yahoo! Answers standpoint, you may not use an avatar that depicts nudity or sexual acts. And as a rule of thumb for what constitutes an adult image, if it’s a photo of something you would acceptably see at a family public swimming pool, it’s OK. Beyond that, it’s not OK. This includes depictions of people, computer-generated images, and cartoons.
Violating the law
Members of Yahoo! Answers are not above the law, so don’t post anything that violates the laws of your country, state, province, or city. Don’t try to trick people into sharing their personal information, don’t steal anything (like copyright or trademark material), and don’t break into places you shouldn’t be. Don’t threaten, harass, impersonate, or hurt others, and don’t invade other people’s privacy.
The “Violating the Law” section of the Community Guidelines also applies to Profile images. Any image that breaks the law is unacceptable on Answers, in whatever form it takes. Using images to threaten, harass, impersonate, or hurt others,” is also unacceptable. Images that make gestures to insult community members, incite hate speech, or attempt to disrupt the functions of the site are also unacceptable.
What is the future of Answers Profile images?
Currently, to have your own image rather than a Yahoo! Avatar on your Answers Profile, you need to add an image to your Yahoo! 360° profile and then select “Use my Yahoo! 360° Picture.” But early next year, Answers will transition from the Yahoo! 360° platform to the new Yahoo! Profiles platform. From now until then, we strongly recommend that you sign up for a Yahoo! Profile so that you are on the new platform before we make the transition.
Profiles is all about you – your connections, updates, privacy settings – your life. Yahoo! Profiles will help you connect with the people that matter to you in the easiest way possible, whether it’s to share your recent updates or to connect with people from your address book. The Profiles platform also brings the added benefit of being able to report just an image itself, rather than the question or answer that it accompanies. Learn more about Profiles.

I Like To go On And On And On On Yahoo Answer. I Like It too Much
Thanks so much for bringing a good law…
I really appreciate…..
i’m glad they’re doing something – i’m getting tired of the nasty pictures people put up to get more answers.
i can’t wait til we can do pictures without 360 – that site doesn’t work for me for some reason!
Gosh i love using my picture as my avatar is among the best because showing a cartoon that doesn’t really look like yaself isnt showing what you look like unless you really wanna hide yaself from people who knows you here on yahoo Y&Q.
But however everything about avatar was an excellent idea because it would be boring if it didnt had avatars or pictures and i am glad that i became a member of yahoo Y&Q. Its among the best of people using yahoo all over the world and i hope others just like myself keep using yahoo to certify our needs and wants.
Thanks a million Yahoo Y&Q your the best.

Yahoo didn’t invent the concept of custom avatars. They’re used on message boards everywhere.
Well, I agree with the guideline. Teens use Q&A also. However, that being said, some of the usernames are just as bad. I would be embarrased to use some of these handles at a family reunion.
I dislike your avatars mainly because I have training in graphics, layout and design plus a degree in fine art. I notice you don’t have an image for anyone over the age of 24 years plus your generic picture is that of a man. I would photoshop an image but do I really care. Yes, you have a good site. But if I want answers on questions of theology I would go to a speciality site where I would find serious intellects instead of an opinion by some yahoo who get their information from their high school chum.
I look forward to being able to dispense with the moribund 360. But will Profiles really do everything 360 did? No one has said anything about it having a blog space.
I guess this means that Little Dick and Lipps will finally disappear.

My avatar is pretty tame – autumn tree, puppy, me. If the avatar is good deal slimmer than I am, am I guilty of misrepresentation?
I did forget to add that there are so many people that are very kind in taking their time to tell you how to clean a floor, load a tape gun or throw out mercury. This site is priceless for that. I wish everyone who asks a question would take the time to vote for the best answer given.
I want to pinch the yahoo hamster, it looks extremely cute and I want to pinch it 10 times harder because it looks squishy hehe.
I want to pinch the yahoo hamster, it looks extremely cute and I want to pinch it 10 times harder because it looks squishy. Squishier than my bed and my pillows. And the squishiest than the seniors of the world.
I put the hamster in my display photo so when I see it, I squish my computer
hahahahaha
Explain to me what the “chatting” violation means. I think it’s ridiculous considering the fact that the definition of chatting is conversing. Also, could you please actually check to see if something is an actual violation before you remove it?
I like to know if there any question not tend for certain people to read. Such as sixteen or under. Not to everybody. Don’t want to offend some people.
I dislike the cartoon avatars like someone else mentioned too. I’m finally going to get a picture up soon as I didn’t know how to do it. Who looks like a cartoon? Please get rid of the nasty people in there underwear or swimsuits or whatever – clothing should be required. We all know kids under thirteen are on here with the questions being posted!
Y! answer is absolutely wonderful! I love how there’s about no limits of types of questions. The only thing that might make Y! answer more convienent is being able to view our mail we sent through here.
I think that peoples should just think about the kids on here.
I enjoy most of the hours to ful fill the question from all round the world, everyday for the answers to the question.
Happy to find out about Yahoo Answer which we can get our answers in a whiles time.
Thanks to Yahoo Community.

Some of the people in Politics & Government, especially Elections and especially recently have been SO racist, slanderous, libelous and violent, it makes me afraid as to if our educational and family structures are crumbling. I won’t even reprise some of the questions, as they are disgusting and ignorant; hopefully they are the minority, hiding behind the anonymity of a computer screen. They need to be reported, since a wise person once said “Evil thrives when good (people) remain silent.”

Hi Team,
The new profile system was supposed to give us a better way to report disgusting avatars that are sometimes displayed on Yanswers.
“The Profiles platform also brings the added benefit of being able to report just an image itself, rather than the question or answer that it accompanies.”
So far it’s not working so well, being able to hide Profiles and disable the View Profile links from showing on Yanswers Profile pages.
Though I think we should have privacy options, how do we report those that abuse the options? Yeah I know, I suspect you’re working on a plan B, but what to do in the interim? Please don’t say to contact customer care, it does not work.
good good iam ibrahem
