The Most Valuable Team in Sports

Hey Guys,
Managing a ninth place fantasy baseball team is about as close as I’ll ever get to owning an actual sports franchise. Aside from my obvious lack of skill when it comes to trading and drafting players, the millions of bucks it takes to buy a team is enough to keep me in the bleachers. So, which professional sports franchise is worth the most money? (Or, in other words, which team am I least likely to own?)
I did some research and found a great list from Forbes. According to the financial experts, the title actually belongs to Homer Simpson‘s favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys. That’s right, kids — the ‘Boys are worth an estimated $1.5 billion.
But, wait — does this list include soccer squads from across the Atlantic? I did some digging and found that, again according to Forbes, Manchester United is actually worth more than the mighty Cowboys. The Red Devils are worth an estimated 1.8 billion bucks.
As for the other major sports, the New York Knicks, despite their horrible on-court performance, are the NBA’s most valuable team. In baseball, the honor goes to the New York Yankees (congratulations, Mr. Steinbrenner), and in hockey, the Toronto Maple Leafs boast the highest value ($413 million).
So, that’s the scoop on professional sports. Is there anyway to tell which college sports team is worth the most money? Notre Dame’s football team? Duke’s basketball team? Erie Community College’s bowling team? Do some research and leave me a note below!

College teams would probably be measured by their endowments and how much is donated to the athletic boosters. UNC’s basketball team or Ohio State football teams would be the most valuable probably- Both large schools with a huge emphasis on that athletic program.
Minn for NCAA hockey probably, And I don’t know college baseball.
wow !
Most valuable? I don’t think so. Biggest payroll? Bingo. The NBA’s two most valuable teams are easily the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers.
This isn’t accurate at all. The Twins owner have more money than the Yankees organization
well the most valuable team in sport is cricket bcoz its a hole team work game if ones is fail the oppenants will take the game
Troy, you’re confusing success and value. Value is how much the team would be worth if sold- it relates to gate income, merchandise sales, ad contracts, TV revenue and so on. Not success in the on court/ice/field product.
And Preston, you’re confused too. Value does not relate to the amount of money the owner has, it relates to how much the asset would be worth.
guy.. most valuable basically means what the estimated price you would recieve if you sold the franchise, not the most popular, nor how much the owner is worth.. therefore the author is quite correct in his claims that the Knicks the the most valuable as they bring in far more money (revenue) than both boston and the la lakers. The amount of money the owner has does not matter at all for the purposes of this question at all other than the fact the owner can invest his money into making the team more valuable as Roman Abrohimovic (sp?) has done for Chelsea. Clearly Paul Allen’s Seattle Seahawks would be at or near the top of the list if you count in owner’s wealth, but that is totally irrelevant
Well good for you.
You have to say Manchester United because with all that money they’re worth, they won 2 of the most important titles they could have earned last season, currently sell out practically every home and away game they are at and have one of the biggest fan followings on Earth. You could go all the way to Antartica and they will know who Man U. is.
Unlike say, the Cowboys or Yankees who havn’t won squat since the turn of the century.
I’ve got to say this – “What a waste of money!!”
The handball team from ICELAND is the team which did come everybody on the game and in the whole world most on pleasant, the boys in that greate team did show us that it dont have to be from a nation with millions of people so it is possible to be a participant in a Olympic Game, team from a nation which is only about 300.000. thousands people which live there!! The Icelandic boys did only loose one game, and make one even, the other game they won and won bick!! They even won the World Champion (Germany) bick!! rochester lacrosse teams and soccer team
Well, the most valuable team in sports. . . all around would definetly either have to be the New England Patriots or the New York Yankees and keep in mind that this comment is coming from a Colts and Red Sox fan… so that was really hard for me to say!!!
