Calling all Batman fans: Ask Christian Bale a question!

Tags: ,

batman and jokerEvery summer needs a blockbuster movie, and this year is no different—Batman is back.

Tim Burton was the first director to immortalize Batman on the big screen, and ever since Michael Keaton’s impressive performance alongside Kim Basinger’s, the caped crusader has had many changing faces.

In “The Dark Knight,” actor Christian Bale brings to life Bruce Wayne, aka Batman, who’s fighting against the fearful Joker, played by the late Heath Ledger. Rumor has it that we see our hero cross the thin line between good and evil like never before

As the latest edition of one of the most famous superhero stories opens today, we’ve partnered with Yahoo! Movies to bring a little “Dark Knight” frenzy to Answers.

We’re asking you, the Answers community, for the perfect question to ask Christian Bale. The best question will be put to him by Yahoo!, on your behalf, and recorded on video.

So, what do you want to ask Christian?

  1. How did it feel to take on a character with such a huge and constantly evolving back story, who has been played by so many other actors and is beloved by so many people?

Also do you think Batman could whup Superman in a fight?

  6. Though many people doubt that the franchise would slowly creep to a halt, and considering the fact that you have played many great roles, do you think that the Batman franchise along with all the other superhero franchises will finally come to a halt, or will they slowly take over all the movie theatres from now till who ever knows when?

  8. What character traits do you identify or share with Batman? You are my favorite actor chosen to portray the role of Batman, with you, he has a depth that has never been seen in previous Batman films. Do you think the character will continue to grow? Would you consider to continue playing Batman as long as the scripts are of the same calibur?

You’ve put your body through hell and back to be the best in some of your roles (e.g., the sickening shell of a body in The Machinist, then back to a physical specimen in Batman Begins, then a little too lanky in Rescue Dawn). What motivates you to go through such agony, and how do you stay disciplined to accomplish such extreme transformations?

How did you become so dedicated to you craft? I do honestly believe you are one the the best actors of this generation, and truly admire how great you are at your craft, and thanks from all of us how love great movies that are not necessarily “blockbusters”

  20. Since the first batman movie in which that role was interpreted by MK, there have been several movies of the dark knight. And I hope this time stays on the right track and continue to follow the real comic story and his enemies.

Mr. Bale do you think that the Director Christopher Nolan will accomplish that?

My question is since you have finished this batman and are going to become John Connor are you going to completely focus yourself on the Terminator series. Or preparing yourself for the next Batman if it comes out.

I’ve seen you in very different and diverse roles, such as in “All the Little Animals” with John Hurt, to “American Psycho” to “Velvet Goldmine” and now “Batman”. Is it very difficult to sort of switch gears , so to speak, from one part to another?

  60. Greetings. As an avid fan of yours (since I caught American Psycho on DVD) I have seen you play a plethora of deep thought provoking & exciting roles in movies like Batman, the Prestige, 3:10 to Yuma, and the upcoming Terminator movie. I thank you for your hard work. What do you believe is the reason you have been able to successfully play so many radically different parts, while others in Hollywood are so quickly typecast into a particular type of role? Also, would you look forward to the possibilty that Christopher Nolan, Michael Caine and yourself (3 movies together) will have a work relationship like Original Batman director Tim Burton & Johnny Depp (6 movies together & counting)?

What are the similarities and differences of playing the roles of Batman and Bruce?

Why was Robins character left out of this movie?

I see there are a lot of special effects and stunts in “The Dark Knight”. What role did you play in the stunts and the special effects? And how were the special effects done?

  76. first i would like to say that you are a very talented actor, and i am a fan. i have read interviews of other actors that admit to losing themselves in the roles they play and that a part of themselves is left with the character when they are done. in much the same way they have taken a part of the character with them afterward as well. my question is that if this is true does it get harder with each new role to go back to being yourself? and how different are you now, (after so many diverse roles) than from who you were before you started acting?

  94. After seeing the movie, I have been wowed by both yours and Heath’s performances. When dealing with a symbol of society, it is all too frequent that actors fall into the trap of stereotyping the archetypal have-to-save-everyone character. My question is, how did you prepare yourself to change that stereotype?

  95. As I type this Dark Knight has not been released for even 24 hours yet, but on imdb.com the film has a 9.7 rating out of 10. Also with around 4,000 votes it is ranked as the #4 most highest rated movie only being beat by Godfather 1 and 2 and the Shawshank Redemption. While this is obviously a masterpiece does it deserve a higher rating than classics like Gone With the Wind, Caseblanca, and Schindler’s List?

  149. why in these two Batman movies that you have starred in did they decide to go backwards in the story and kinda start all over in aspects of showing where Batman started, how he became Batman and why, his villians, how his parents died. I personally think that the previous movies that started out with Michael Keyton as Batman were very good movies and although the actor who played Batman changed several times, the general storyline was good and well established. Why change everything now. I also don’t think that your last Batman movie was any good at all. Perhaps if you hadn’t spent so much time trying to show people stuff that already happened you could have commited more time to making a movie with a lot more substance. Katie Holmes was a total floparoo as your love interest last time and the Scarecrow wasn’t scary at all. BORING! As far as I’m concerned no one will ever be the Joker like Jack Nicolson. I think you should hang up the cape and stop trying to redo what was already done. I personaaly will not waste my time and money seeing you flop on the big screen again, if i’m curious about Ledger’s performance I’ll wait till your “greatest” movie is in the 99cent bin at Walmart.

  171. Mr. Bale

Well this is more of a suggestion. First off I thought that log falling on chest thing in Batman was stupid as hell. Bench pressing is still not that functional no matter how many real life occurences of log on chest accidents have happened. I haven’t seen the new one but the thrid should have batman pushing wheel barrows full of junk up hill and than pushing some fat dude off something. Also clean and pressing barrels than picking some little guy up like Bruce Lee. Finally he should do fireman carries with sandbags and than haul ass up the stairs to avoid something horrible with his girl on shoulder. Maybe even show some band punching with heavy resistance bands and weigthed russian twists with bag work and than have him knocking people out. Ka-Blamo!!! You need to sell that Bruce is hardcore athlete as well as martial artist cause its Batman’s dedication that makes him a hero not some “power’. The first had him doing pushups every morning, that is nothing.Look up rosstraining.com as well as books like Dinosaur Training. This dedication to his athletic ability, martial arts and doing what is right in a city ravaged by crime is what made me love Batman above all hero’s. Plus everyone can tell that Superman is just Clark Kent without Glasses, I hate that! Anyways I know this is now officially a rant ,but these are my main concerns in regards to the movie. Also if you can do one arm chin-ups on a rope with a dumbeel in free hand and than have a seen where you shoot your grappling hook with girl in arms I would believe Batman is actually strong enough to do this. I know you are very busy but you make so much money I am not going to expect anything less. I make eleven bucks an hour and still workout after 10 hours of manual labor with a pick axe and shovel. So……. Make Batman look like a true hero. You are the face of Batman now and you can give the audience a wow by building your strength to true superhero levels. Contact Ross Enamait if you want an awesome personall trainer that can get you there. Anyways, I guess my question would be , what does Batman do that makes him such a indominable force when fighting gangs of hardened criminals? Is it just pushups?

  178. Hi there, loved the movie, you probably get asked this a lot, but will there be a third? I like the directors style. I mean it would be great, I like what they did to Harvey Dent in the dark night, but I don’t want this to fall down a flight of stairs like the spiderman series seemed to do. I would like to see one more, Joker escapes, maybe teams up with the penguin, or someone else, and then end it, don’t even throw the other two in it, either robin or bat girl, because that would almost hurt the feel of the movie. Maybe bat girl, but not much of robin since two face is dead, you director killed that story line , but it was still a great movie. I like the new feel to it, less childish, more action.

  210. In this last installment it’s clear that Bruce Wayne is getting older and is growing tired with his secret life as Batman. While in his search for a replacement “public-faced” hero to take care of Gotham city he becomes deeply overwhelmed with his new opponent and reign of terror and gives in to the Joker’s demand to reveal Batman’s identity. Luckily he’s saved at the last minute but prior to this point and even in past installments Bruce Wayne and Batman have always given me the impression of being two separate people who join forces to combat criminals. Here for the first time after being pushed to the absolute limit I see Bruce Wayne and Batman become one and give birth to a new breed of hero with an unrelenting dedication fueled with a raging dark and menacing psychosis which eventually proves to be enough to capture the Joker.

What’s your interpretation and will we see more of this new Batman?

  226. Many actors do not get the chance to bring such a well known character to life or provide their own flare and style to an existing character. The actors whom are given the opportunity to do so take the risk of being condemned or praised for their portrayal of the character. When the later occurs and the actor’s style is hailed as wonderful they can often become “stuck” playing that role for an extended time or being remembered as that character. Examples being that of actors who have lent a hand or performance in films such as Batman, Superman, Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc. Among actors there seems to be a debate as to whether playing a re-occurring role is harmful or helpful to one’s overall career. With the recent acclaim and box office craze of the Dark Night, what is your view on this topic and what do you feel is it’s affect on your acting career so far?

  280. You take your roles very seriously, not only in the nuances of each different character and how you act them out, but also with the way your body looks. I understand that you would have to be physically fit for a role such as Bruce Wayne/Batman, but there have been other roles in which you have either lost dangerous amounts of weight, and others where you seem to have a few extra pounds, not fat, but not extremely fit like the role you are playing currently in the Dark Knight. Are you ever concerned about the long term effects of your body transformations? And if so, how do you go about lessening the negative effects of your weight loss and gain in such a short amount of time?

When developing a character such as Batman whom has been played by other actors, do you find it easier to take up the way a character was developed and model your character after the way he was portrayed or is it easier to make the character your own and portray it the way you see?

  326. Hi Mr. Bale,

I thoroughly enjoyed Batman Begins, but I believe the late 80s and early 90s was the most ideal time frame for the Batman series due to its more commercialized, materialistic, stylish, and relatively dark nature.

Despite the new Batman movie’s immense entertainment level; do you think these aspects of the film are weakened due to the era it was made in?

  363. Hello, Mr. Bale! Thank you for reviving the Dark Knight without the camp. I loved your performance in Movie # 1. At the same time, I kept thinking what a blast you must be having on the set.

Your Batman props seem they’d be so much fun for the actors to use–the Batman uniform with all its gadgets (of course), apparently used by you; the gliding cape; and the batmobile (of course, again). Hand to hand combat is a favorite movie fantasy of mine, and yours (Bats 1 and 2) looks real.

But I know any action/fantasy film would have relied heavily on mat painting, CGI, cutaway props, and stunt folk these days. So, what was simulated, what was genuine, and what working props, stunts, and fights did you really have an opportunity to enjoy?

  384. Mr. Bale,

I know this is the 83429015 question posted concerning Heath Ledger, and there are probably more to come, but I will ask it nonetheless.

(Actually it a few questions put in one, I just couldn’t narrow it down)

“The Dark Night” is definitely the movie of the year, and i think thats because of the killer performances given by all the actors. You, Aaron Eckhart, and the phenomonal delivery of the Joker Heath Ledger gave us. Do you agree with all the recognition and hype Mr. Ledger is receiving, and do you feel he deserves the Oscar?

Heath Ledger truly immersed himself in this role, and played the part of Joker on and off the set to master it (which DEFINITELY paid off). Were there ever times, whether it be acting in a scene with him or on lunch break, when he really creeped you out?

How do you feel Heath Ledger’s passing affected you, the rest of the cast and crew, and ultimately, the movie itself?

And finally, I just wanted to say awesome movie! I really enjoyed it and am a HUGE fan. Hopefully there is another to follow!

  386. I’ll just ask you a general question; how are you so dedicated? I’m not referring to your acting (which I’ve always enjoyed) but what you do to your body for roles.

What was it like losing all that weight for The Machinist then gaining it all 63 back for Batman Begins? And how did you do it without dropping dead? I get the strong impression most bodies would have said “hell no” after a while and just quit.

  387. I wasn’t very smitten with the new Batman (tho it was certainly an improvement over the preceeding two, the latter which I haven’t seen at all) and if I eventually get around to seeing Dark Knight, it’ll be largely for Heath Ledger’s final role; there have been just too many incongruities and I’m not talking about between the comics and film.

I suppose in regards to a question, it would be about the Bat-suit: why is Batman’s head so misshapen and large when the Burton/Shumacher one’s weren’t and why did they decide on such a cheap cape? It looks quite a bit like they ran out of money and just ran to the fabric store and tacked on a piece of cloth.

One more maybe: is there anybody who doesn’t know/find out that Bruce Wayne is Batman? Vicki Vale, Selina Kyle, Ed Nigma, (Harvey Dent I?), Lucius Fox, the love interest in the first rebooted film…

  391. While I was watching The Dark Knight yesterday, it struck me: I want a do-over. I want out. After everything I’ve been through in my life, after trying to overcome a violent, painful past with limited success, I want to get the hell outta Dodge. Now, the Joker went crazy in an unappealing way, but a case could be made that Batman went crazy, too. I mean, his kind of crazy is a little more credible than most kinds of crazy because he has a good imagination and the money to bring his fantasies to life, but there’s something not quite sane about the way he escapes from his painful reality.

So, my question is: what about the rest of us? What about those of us who don’t have Bruce Wayne’s money and power? How do we escape pasts we hate, lives we hate, countries we hate?

So I can’t be Batman. Duh. How do I get a do-over in the real world?

  393. Mr. Bale,

Congratulations on another successful movie, and we look forward to your next successes.

Now that you have played the role of Bruce Wayne / Batman in two movies, I believe you are taking us (the viewers) into a more in-depth understanding of the character. Conversely, the writers are doing the same with both your character, and those of the villians. Unquestionably, Heath’s portrayal of the Joker is frightening, yet riviting, in the story. A very complex character, to say the least.

My question to you is this: As you have seen your two Batman movies progress, and now that you probably have a good handle of the primary Batman villians, which villian do you feel would be an outstanding selection as the next in-depth study for a possible 3rd installment? Obviously, Harvey Dent a.k.a. Two-Face will play a role, but there are other notible villians that could play alongside, or separate altogether, that, with skill, could be written and played outstandingly, similar to that of Heath’s portrayal.

Best wishes for your future projects.

  397. Hello, Mr. Bale!
First off, I want to say your performances in every role you take go above and beyond. With every performance, I find myself forgetting that I am watching a film and not in the same room co-existing with the same characters. (Which is one of the things that set you apart from many other actors.)

I was wondering, there are many roles in which you dig very deep into this character’s psyche; do you ever find yourself loosing faith in humanity or, instead, do you find the good that there is in everyone?

I look forward to seeing you in your many other roles in the future.

  400. Mr.Bale,

Now in my opinion, you are the best Batman so far. You are able to bring in the sinister aspects of Bruce Wayne’s tragic life (much like Michael Keaton), yet you can pull off the funny parts of the movie (the scene with the pool in Batman Begins, for example).

My question is this: Do you feel a lot of pressure having to play the role so many amazing actors have played? I mean playing a role that George Clooney and Val Kilmer have played, in a series of movies that Jack Nicholson played in, it must be nerve wrecking! You’re the perfect actor for the role.

P.S. Can’t wait to see you as John Connor…

I wanted to ask you: what was the hardest part about getting into your role as Bruce Wayne/Batman? The character has his own inner conflict (identity crisis seems like an understatement). How did you get yourself in the mindset necessary to convey that kind of struggle on screen?

My Q is: Do you think Batman can be more fun, more jokes and stuff? I believe the combination of jokes and powerhouse will lift the character and the…tickets.

My question for you is if Chris Nolan decides to make a third Batman movie, would it live up to the expectations that The Dark Knight did? Would you want to do a third film, or let The Dark Knight be the best and last? And if a third Batman was made, would the Joker be recast? I heard Jonny Depp would step in, would he be a different villian?

What is with the annoying deep voice you do when you are Batman? And why do you always purse your lips? Do you realize how annoying that it is? Do you watch your own movies? And if so do you honestly think that you are a good actor? Especially playing the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman, do you really seriously think that you did the role any justice? Because personally I think you ruined Batman for me in those movies. I liked The Dark Knight in spite of your role. I wonder how anyone can think that you are a good actor.

    As for my second question…

    Additional Details:

I am wondering for the film watchers out there has there been a lot of discussion as to whether or not there will be several Terminator movies starring Mr. Bale as John Connor, and if so are there similar discussions concerning Batman, and; do the two conflict or can this all work out given the age of Michael Caine, (Alfred) and the haste that should be taken in making Batman movies and the age of Arnold Schartzenegger, (The T100 who really needs to be seen in the upcoming movie, even if he is only morphed in on the army), or; if there is no conflict; how soon can audiences expect another installment of these two sagas?

I guarantee you in a month or so these questions will be on the minds of your fans and movie fans in general.

You, after all is the protagonist of the story and a shining star yourself? The trailer to Dark Knight focused mostly on The Joker and not Batman and it is the same with all the publicity material cooked up by the studio? Stroll around Times Square New York and who do you see standing 30 feet stall on the gigantic billboard? Yup, you guess it right.

Surely you wanted to be a superhero as a child, but now that you’ve experienced what being a superhero is really like do you still want to be one?

  583. Hi Christian,

I’d like to know what it is you do to get into physical shape for your movies. Going from your role in “The Machinist”—where you were emaciated—to your buff body in “American Psycho” and “Batman” how do you do it? Besides weight training are you drinking protein shakes and what kind of diet are you on? And how taxing is that on your body?

  586. Christian, just wanted to say that your performance in The Dark Knight is underrated under all of the attention given to the late Heath Ledger’s the Joker. However, your acting balanced it out magnificently–what’s the Joker without the Batman.

Anyway, the question. So, as the media tell us, Heath Ledger went to what could be considered the extreme in order to capture what he saw as the true, new essence of the Joker. He became the Joker, so to speak. Thus I ask, what is the one character, movie, and scene that you have acted out and lost yourself completely (or close to it) within the role? The one moment (or moments, if there are more than one) where you have fond yourself completely immersed in the character you were playing?

  637. As a comic book fan it often irks me that the movies of famous comics tend to stray from the original. Sometimes going so far as to completely rewrite characters and their origins (Often, I feel, in order to make the film more PG-13 friendly. Or more “relevant” to audiences who are not familiar with the original works).

What do you feel about this? Should a film adaptation such as Batman be an exercise in creativity to attract a new audience, or should it remain faithful to the original as a reward for the existing audience?

  652. Mr. Bale,
I am familiar with the promotional viral game made online. in the game, a site called ibelieveinharveydent.com appeared. whomever wanted to vote for dent was to supply the site with their email-nothing more. you recieved x and y coordinates. later on the site was “defaced” by the joker (as you can see it now) then, joker cards printed with “hahahahaha i believe in harvey dent too” littered a california comic store, when people entered the site, they were asked for the coordinates. in its completion, the jokers image appeared. i know you may already know this, but, if you go to ibelieveinharveydenttoo.com it says page not found. when you highlight the page however, the words hahahahahahahahaha apear everywhere.
copy and paste the words in a word program, eliminate all the h and a’s and you are left with the message “see you in decemeber”

is there going to be another film? and if so, the whole message gig is a direct relevance to Jeph Loeb’s “A long Halloween” in which the villan is a holiday killer, and in which two faced is involved. no one to this day knows who indeed was the holiday killer, but, we do know not only did two face kill, but also his wife.

is this perhaps, WHY we will see you in december?

First off,out of all the movies you were in,I have only seen Little Women,Pocahontas,American Psycho and Batmin Begins (so far),and I enjoyed each one.
Watching Batman Begins helped me to understand a little more about Bruce Wayne. That movie finally brought to light the reasons why Bruce does what he does.I enjoyed watching you play this role, you are VERY nice to look at.How’s your personality? :) I’m curious, did you know during or anytime right after filming Batman Begins, that you would be playing Bruce for a second time? If not,did you hope at all that there would be another Batman movie filmed so that you could play Bruce Wayne again? Do you regret at all taking on this role or any previous role? What is the most memorable thing that has happened to you on set and during which movie? According to your filmography, you have several projects in the near future, which could mean a lot of stress and/or sleepless nights. What will you do to keep yourself focused and healthy? How will you divide your time between your family and filming? What is the most memorable thing you have done with your family? Do you perfer coffee, tea or both, and which is your favorite flavor? One more thing, boxers or briefs?? Just kidding, you don’t have to answer that (unless you want to).Thanx Christian,I can’t wait for the answers!

I am a huge fan of your work. You have played Jim in Empire of the Sun, Jack Kelly in Newsies, Boy in Henry V, John Preston in Equilibrium, Alfred Borden in The Prestige, and Bruce Wayne and Batman in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. (Among other works, these are just some of my favorites.)

Which character(s) was the most fun to play. Which was the hardest. The easiest? Which one could you relate to the most? What role do you believe you really poured yourself into becoming that character? Or do you think that you do that for each and every one of your characters?

Best of luck in the rest of your acting career.

I am at a loss for words. Today was when I finally saw your film, and I was blown away by the cast’s spectacular performance. Christopher Nolan must be a wonderful director to work with since the movie is such a success. You bring such magnificence to the big screen. Batman has always been one of my favorite movies, and ‘The Dark Knight’ was very well worth the wait. So here are my questions to you:

Did you expect the debut of your feature film to be selling out at theaters worldwide, and having people line up just to see you? It must be quite mind-boggling!

Secondly, how was it like when you and the cast, all becoming very close, to find out that one of your fellow friends had just passed away, after portraying such a dark and maniacal character?

Congratulations on your film, and keep pursuing your dreams! We love you!

P.S. The Dark Knight was great! i loved it!

p.s. saw the dark knight today, IT WAS COMPLETELY AWESOME!!!! TWO THUMBS UP!!!!

Knowing what you know now did you enjoy/prefer acting as a child or now? Do you believe you would be where you are now (The Dark Knight) with or without that early experience? How do you feel about children or even your own child getting into the movie industry?

Let me first start off by telling you how amazing I thought The Dark Night was, as was Batman Begins. I’m sure many others’ questions to you will be about the late Mr. Heath Ledger, who, undeniably, shone in his role of the Joker, and whose untimely death may have ironically lead to the success of this movie. However, no matter many burning questions I may have about Mr. Ledger, Ms. Gyllenhaal, Mr. Freeman, or Mr. Caine, this is supposed to be a question for you. So here goes:

I have heard alot of rumors that Heath ledger’s suicide was due to the fact that, the longer he played the joker, the more he lost his mind and slowly became the Joker, and that He committed suicide at the last minute before he really became the Joker.
Did he have any issues before shooting begain that would lead you to think he might be suicide. Did his actions and attutude change during and after shooting? After Shooting, were there any indicators that might have lead you to believe that he was suicidal?

Since The first Batman Movie with Michael Keaton, every Batman movie tries to stick to the same timeline. However, starting with Batman Begins, you have started a brand new storyline of batman. This means the return of all the old villains (Joker, Twoface, and hopefully the Riddler, Poison Ivy and Dr. Freeze in the future).

What is the reason for starting a new time line? What is the impact on your movies being a new take on older Characters?

You’re a very versatile actor who has seemingly avoided being typecast up until now by taking on a variety of very different types of roles; such as your performances in Little Women, American Psycho & Rescue Dawn (to name very few). Do you fear that playing Batman and now John Connor in the upcoming Terminator Salvation will change that? Are you afraid of being possibly being perceived only as an “action hero”?

Congratulations on another impeccable performance in The Dark Knight!

  856. Hello, Bale-san. Dark Knight really blew past my expectations. Bravo!

    My questions are… drumroll, plz.

    1. How did you get into the zone to become your character, Batman?
    2. Is there a preference you have for heroes that don’t have supernatural powers?
    3. How does Batman feel when fighting the Joker?
    4. Do you think it is unhealthy for people to yearn for supernatural powers?
    5. Why was Rachel special to Batman?
    6. How would Batman have coped if he had received Rachel’s letter? Would you agree this realization would have been better than his remaining in the dark?
    7. Is Batman conscious of a certain “cool” factor that permeates his image? Is he actively trying to distinguish his two personas? Or does it all just come subconsciously…? Would you say one over the other is his true self, or are they both part of him? Is there another self that we haven’t seen? Has Batman perfected himself?
    8. Other than what he has, what else do you think Batman deserves?
    9. Why do you like to act? Would any reasoning diminish your passion for it? Does any reasoning boost your passion for it? Does it ever feel like work?
    10. What criteria do you have for participating in a certain film?

The Dark Knight movie really held some points that moved me to consider them. Being a Guardian seems to be the only apt description one can give someone in these confuzzled times…

11, Does Batman feel sympathy for the Joker?

Bravo, Mr. Wayne. You did well.

    12. Does getting into character make you feel schizophrenic?
    13. Did you catch that I used Wayne instead of Bale? Eh? Ehhh?

Thank you, and you are welcome to my 6.50 cents in ticket admission.

  863. Seeing how difficult a time Heath had coming out of the psychotic Joker character, and recalling how creepily, ambivalently evil your character was in American Psycho, do you think it might be a good idea to have a counselor on the set of movies in which a character is luridly unbalanced? An on-the-scene decompression specialist?

  864. Why do you make the choice to play bruce wayne so dispassionately? Why are so many young actors doing this just play it straight with no inflection and no interesting choices. Heath saw the different path.

Christian. Lets have more FUN dude. Heath blew you away in every seen he was in. While you are a great actor, no question, the batman is pretty boring.

  867. You go to extremes with muscle gain and loss for roles, you lost massive weight for The Machinist, followed the next year by bulking up for Batman Begins. Recently you lost weight yet again to play a POW in Rescue Dawn, and again, bulked up to play Batman once more in Dark Knight… Do you ever worry your body will give in? (We want you to be around a long time that’s all)

What inspired you to take this role to act as batman? Were you a fan of batman when you were little?

  870. Mr.Bale,
First I want to say that I enjoy movies. But this question has been on my mind for some time now. I was wondering A-list actors in Hollywood command millions of dollars per movie.
Do you think that getting paid millions for acting in a film is fair compensation?

  871. Master Christian Bale,

I believe you are the greatest actor in the world. Ever since “Laurie” on Little Women you have been my absolute favorite! You dive so deeply in every character that you portray and seem to truly become that person. How are you so capable of doing this? How hard is it to switch back after the role is over? What is your dream role? I want to thank you for being so entertaining. You are truly what every actor should strive to be! Please keep bringing such brilliance to the theaters for all of us to enjoy!

    Cheers

  878. Dear Mr. Bale,

Was the way you portrayed Batman and Bruce Wayne true to the conception you have had of him, or were there things you were required to change, or add that you had not known nor expected? If so, could you please tell us what they were?

For instance, when in Batman Begins, Bruce Wayne evacuated his guests, to save their lives, by pretending to be drunk, it was painful to see him destroy his family’s reputation like that, and I would not have immediately voted such a move if asked the once, but I later undestood that that IS the way Bruce Wayne of the comics would have had to do it..

First, let me say you are quickly becoming one of my favorite actors. Here’s my question.

Batman is clearly a pop cultural icon. What do you believe is the best message(s) that people can take from your portrayal of the Caped Crusader?

  888. Mr. Bale,

I saw the movie yesterday. I thought it was awesome for the first 1.5 hrs. But why did the director and screenplay decide on presenting debate over the morals and good vs evil debate? Don’t you think that was unncessary and caused the two-face character look underdeveloped as well as affect the climax which should have been the crescendo of action??

  894. “The Dark Knight” brings Batman movies away from the happy-go-lucky, Adam West past and further into the realm of, well, darkness and horror.

After initially reading the script, did you expect The Joker to be as twisted and sadistic as he turned out being after all was said and done?

Is it easier to act opposite the villain, or to actually play the villainous character (as in “American Psycho”)?

  897. When you become an old man in his late 40′s or 50′s and Michael Caine and Gary Oldman become much older gentlemen, will you be able to reprise your role as an older Bruce Wayne who returns from retirement as an older Batman? They did this in the mini-comic book series The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller where an older Bruce Wayne returns to become Batman again after Gotham became a lot darker and more violent. He also leads a group of former streetgang who later on sees the light and becomes the followers of the Batman to take on crime in Gotham city and he has a new young female Robin replacement. Thanks for any answers.

  902. How do you feel editing of the movie out of respect for Heath Ledger’s memory effected the overall scope of the film? Do you feel it changed the original path of the film? Do you belive Heath would have wanted the film changed? It seems to me that the entire film fell flat at the end. The build up was astounding, the movie was my favorite Batman movie to date, but the performances were geared toward something I belive we were not shown. You get the feeling that something was missing at the end. What are your thoughts? Will there be a release of the un-edited version and do you believe that will answer the majority of my questions?

  903. Do you believe the film’s dive into the demented mind of not only the Joker but of Batman has taken this comic book movie into the genre of true pyschological thrillers? What do you believe Batman’s motivation is? How do you see him and his alter ego Bruce Wayne? How do you belive he stacks up against other tragic heros? Do you believe he is a tragic hero? Why or why not?
