Can you tell me about the hot spots?

machu picchuGoing on vacation is always exciting, but for some people (like me) planning the vacation is part of the fun. In preparation for my trip to Peru, I’ve spent months researching the history and culture, looking for the best way to cram all the must-see locations into 12 days. I’ve found that informational websites and official guidebooks are great for overviews, but when it comes to getting specific details, nothing beats talking to the locals.

In my case, Yahoo! Answers has helped to instantly connect me with local Peruvians (and previous visitors) to get answers to my spur-of-the-moment questions. And I’ve been able to exchange information with others who are planning to be in Peru around the same time I am. How cool would that be if I ran into fellow Answerers whom I know only by avatar?

Tapping into the minds of all these folks has given me some insights on things like what to expect in certain towns, some little-known Peruvian treasures to visit, and even a step-by-step plan for getting to Machu Picchu.

What are the best vacation tips you’ve gotten or given on Answers?

  7. Stay in Mira Flores at a nice little hotel which is very reasonable- called Casa de la Sanchez – about $40/nt which is next to Park de Kennedy- nice restaurants in walking distance too and safe! Then fly to Cuzco and visit Machu Licchu one of the seven great wonders of the world- altitude is high- so be prepared for altitude sickness later in the day. Takes about 24 hours to acclimate and you will be tired after short walks. Take the time to understand the spiritual significance of Machu Picchu- it’s not a MTV experience if you know where I am coming from…enjoy and have a Crystal beer with the best cerviche served across the park!

  10. Hot spots occur where the upwelling of magma heats the overlying crust. The Hawaiian Island chain is a popular series of hot spots.

  11. I AM PERUVIAN!!!!! ive never been their though. through all your research you must have heard of nicolas deperiola (i think thats how you spell it) one of the most well known and cosidered one of the best presidents of peru. yea im related to him. somehow. Deffinitly visit Lima. and machu picchu. i heard it is one of those weird spots where people get these good vibes or something. but whatever. but dont wear any jewlery, becuase i heard of these teenage gangs that will like cut your finger off for a ring or something. and the traffic is CA-RA-ZY. dont be surprised to hear honking right when you step out of the airport. you are so lucky. im peruvian and ive never even been there.

  12. A really hot spot right now is Croatia. I spent the summer in London and everyone was planning a trip there. It has beautiful weather, fantastic beaches, and great history. Plus, it’s not on the Euro so you could probably snag some good deals. It’s exotic yet civilized – I’ll be planning a trip there soon myself.

    Happy travels!

  13. Thank you. Make sure you collect a piece of andesite rock from the Andes Mountains. Maybe a locally manufacture pestle and mortar from this rock for food preparation.

  14. Make sure you collect a piece of andesite rock from the Andes Mountains while you are down there. The best souvenir if you get one large enough to be an ornament just by itself.

  22. The Quaint little Drinking Town I live in that has a Fishing Problem, the Tawases (East and the City) is a much undiscovered place for adventurers. We have a lovely downtown with shops, National Forrests and many Public Beaches in the County.
Our History includes being the Birth City of Mr David Buick, he did fairly well in Flint as a wheelwright turned Business Guy (thanks in part to Jack Hammady).
Y’all come on, we got Koegel’s and Miller Beer at the Kleenow’s Market. Blessed Summer to everyone.

  23. I’ve been to Peru and I’ve only been there for 10 days. I really enjoyed it, because it is completely different from the United States. It has made me appreciate what I have at home more and it taught me so much. You should visit Machu Picchu, some small villages (like Alis, near the Andes Mountains) because its really small and the people there are so nice, Cuzco, Huancayo, and more. Visiting the villages of Peru is really life altering. Its nice to see how they live when they’re not near the city. Have fun!
