Ask Mike: Name that Tune
Hey Guys,
Back in the day, commercials were lame and annoying. And, to a large extent, they still are. But occasionally, an ad comes along with a tune so catchy that viewers can’t help but wonder who the artist is behind the music.
Lots of curious folks have turned to Yahoo! Answers for help in tracking down the songs used in commercials. A simple search on “song commercial” brings up over 28,000 results. Here are a few of the commercials that folks seem particularly interested in learning more about right now…
TamSam39 wonders if anybody knows the name of the song used in the Kia car commercial where the driver forgets which side of the car the gas tank is on. Sound familiar to anyone?
Got any idea of what song is playing during the new TigerAde commercial when Mr. Woods hits the golf ball to the moon? One responder thinks it may be “Spirit in the Sky.”
SJenn75 loves tea. Or at least she loves the song that plays during the new Nestea commercial. If only she knew the name of the singer, she’d be a very happy person.
Commercials from Old Navy are particularly popular in Yahoo! Answers. LoLa wants some help in tracking down the song from the store’s newest ad. Perhaps the store’s official site is a good place to start.
This is a bit embarrassing, but I’ve always wanted to track down the name of the song used in the old Drakkar Noir commercial where a guy is hitting a punching bag. I know, I know. I don’t wear the stuff, I just like the song. Really.
Got any commercial jingles you’d like to know more about? Leave a comment below and maybe someone can help you track down the answer.

The song from the Dentyne commercial is “Stuttering” by Ben’s Brother. Great song. Hope that helps!
I’m wondering what the one from the newest Old Navy commercial is too.
Oh, and fatcat_luver, that one is “New Soul” by Yael Naim.
Do you know what song was in the Old Navy shown during American Idol last night, and sometimes other channels?
I LOVE the new iTunes commercial! I heard the song once and I knew I needed it! Luckily, the name of the song, “Shut Up And Let Me Go,” is in the lyrics many times, so it was very easy to find on iTunes! I love the Ting Tings now! I’ve came to Y!A for past commercial help before, though!
my favorite comercial is in spanish for the ford focus, that song is very catchy and cool…
More reason for commercials to put the name of the song and artist at the corner of the screen like they do in music videos.
interesting……………..hi
If you know the melody and wants to know its name, try Midomi.com. Just sing into a microphone and it will return a related result if it’s on the record. For classical pieces there is Musipedia.org
kayla_m – the old navy one is by lights, and is called the last thing on your mind
O.k yhis is not from a commercial, it was a song played on The Real World when Joey was going to rehab…Some of the words were: I don’t want to live like this anymore, I want to be a better man. Anyone know?

IPOD SONNGS!!
=D
I’m still trying to figure out why, during the late 70′, in the Detroit Metro area (on one of the *major* stations) they used to have these “non-commercials”—they sold absolutely nothing–they played 60 full seconds—in the middle of the day—and played “Rock Around The Clock”. The screen was black except for all these neon colors and a couple doing the jitterbug. I loved that commercial…I just don’t understand its purpose. Does *anyone* know?
As an adjunct, sort-of, my brain keeps wanting to know does the guy who looks a bit like a young (20-ish) Hugh Laurie in the VW commercial (the one where he goes to steal the red VW, then returns it out of a pang of conscience) is actually Hugh Laurie’s son.
All these, “What’s that pretty song?” “Who’s that guy in the commerrcial?” is getting too distracting—I can’t even remember what the commercials are FOR. Like these couple of commercials with French pop songs, great songs, but what are they for and how does the French music factor in?
Does any1 remember the Wonder Bread commercial with a song that goes something like this:
Everytime I wonder
As I watch you grow
Everytime I wonder
I love you so
Getting big and strong now
It won’t be very long now
‘Til you’re leaving me
Who sings it????
Okay, Here’s one for a child’s toy.
“Squirt, Squirt, Squirt the Animals
Whenever You Take a Bath
You Gotta Squirt the Animals With The Porpoise
Just Squirt, It’ll Make You Laugh.”
Anyone remember it?
The Kia car commercial song is “The Funeral” by Band of Horses.
Wii commercial music is traditional japanese instrument, the Tsugaru Shamisen, (aka 3 flavored strings), can be mild, slow, or can be strummed up for a dramatic and tasteful play.
What’s the song on the food network’s show
“The Next Food Network Star”
ˇżtell me the name of the Song for “CH” perfume(femme) — somebody knows?
I love this topic!! I’m racking my brain trying to figure out the song used in recent/current M&M’s comercials.
Thanks in advance!
the F-R-E-E that spells free creditreport.com baby, saw your ad on my tv…and so on. that one is so funny…both of them. one is about a used sub-compact car and the other is about him serving tourist ice tea because he’s a waiter. those are hilarious

Every company should have a signature tune and company must me searchable by its signature tune on Yahoo! search.
hi. a few years ago, sony ericsson aired a new ad in india. they showed a man running home late in the night, and a woman running alongside a derert or something.
the music played in the background was amazing. does anyone know what it was?
hi this is BB again.
the question was already asked by aditi
”

someone also gave a link to the ad
http://youtube.com/watch?v=P8zLcVeSOrc
hope someone can tell me what is the name of the track
geee…..i am sorry. i found it
it is called “jump on foot” by Holiday for Strings
bye
I have one I’ve been dying to know, but I can’t seem to catch the good details like a brand name: There’s a still-playing commercial for some new cell phone (it’s black and thin) and the commercial has pretty red, “bleeding heart”-looking flowers that open slowly to a tune that might be called “Daydream”? Maybe? Anyone know what that song is; I love it!
the song from the newest kraft salad dressing commercial!
You’re lame and annoying. Now, get those herpes treated.
Oh My Goodness……. this is too weird but YES just this morning a Saturn Vue commercial came on and things all around are popping out…like the trees and little gold arrows are showing which way to go and a ferris wheel…. and the only part of the song i can remember is something like:
…. something something something my feet on the ground…..
HELP, ANYONE!!
Years ago there was a Time Magazine commericial around Christmas time and the singer sounded very much like Barry Manilow. It was so touching. I think the lyrics were:
Give them Time to count on, Time to learn, give them to live and time to dream. Say Merry Xmas, Merry Xmas, Time and Time again.
Another one that really touched my heart (I didn’t recognize the man and woman singing) was a Nestle white chocolate commericial I remember the jingle:
“Sweet dreams I can’t resist N-E-S-T-L-E-S..a dream as good as this N-E-S-T-L-E-S…creamy white, creamy white…Sweet dreams I can’t resist N-E-S-T-L-E-S. Sweet dreams I can’t resist.”
It reminds me of an episode on Married with Children when Al Bundy was trying to find a song that he heard on the radio but didn’t know the name or the singer. Hmm, Hmm, him….we’ve all been in a place at one time or other where the you would love to know that song!
ok…what about the name of the song in the gatorade commercial with the hockey players??
“Back in the day, commercials were lame and annoying.”
Maybe off topic, but I’d like to take you to task for that comment. As a kid, I, and a lot of kids in my neighborhood, were commercial junkies. The Ajax white knight; “No matter what shape your stomach is in…”; “That’s a one spicy meatball!”; “Mother please, I’d rather do it myself”; “Mikey, He Likes It!”, and the legion of great cereal commercial characters like Tony the Tiger, Capn Crunch, Snap-Crackle-Pop, etc. It was all good.
Brillcreme a little dabadoya
Run faster jump higher with P.F. Flyers
Shake and Bake and I helped
The funniest one of all time was the commercial from the Gene Autry show with Jimmy Durante ” Nose Posse”
I like a lot of the music in commercials, but it really pains me to have rock classics co-opted by new ads — particularly car commercials. I was listening to Zeppelin recently and found myself thinking about Cadillacs. I know that’s what the marketers are after, but ugh!
One gallon ax!!!!! It’s supernatural.
And 5, 5 dollar 5 dollar foot long
it ca-ca catchin’ on.
Every now and then I wake up will a
commercial jingle in my head.
Back in the day commercials were lame?
Back in MY day we had to use our imaginations rather than have everything presented for us. We did our own thinking for ourselves.
I’d pay to have an oldies channel that ran nothing but bygone TV shows from the 50′s and 60′s and their ads.
Today’s commercial advertisements leave nothing to the imagination and images are flashed so fast I break a sweat. Not to mention how they butcher some classic rock and roll songs that I grew up listening to while making me sick of listening to them any longer.
You are entitled to your opinion, but we aren’t all 13 year olds.
commercial’s have songs in the background?…jk jk. lol. i honestly dont pay attention too much unless i know it. then i sing along if i do.
There ain’t no bugs on me, there ain’t no bugs on me. There might be bugs on some of you pugs but there ain’t no bugs on me.
K9- advantage
My mom tells me about “BAAAACK, BAAAACK!!! Thank you Mr. Easter Bunny!!!”
My mom tells me about LOTS of commercials from the 70′s.
Artists are really getting shafted not requireing advertisers to display the artist song and available on information with every commercial like it’s a mini music video. They should all fire their label reps.
I probably would by 4 tunes a month that I hear in commercials if I only knew the artists and song title to go login and purchase.
Idiots if you ask me.
BTW there was a Cadillac commercial out recently with the car driving through the city and images projected on every wall the car drove by. The song, in case anyone is interested is Hold On Tight by ELO but I still swear it’s Cheap Trick!
what do you think of my PPP?..
Hey I always notice the music in commercials…but then I love music…I agree with the OP
Try USATVADS.COM
They have a reel of oldies and do let you view some for free on their web site. They KNOW so Much about commercials, it would make your head spin!
And NO, I don’t own it or have any interest in it. It is just and amazing company!
It kills me how many times I answer the same question… if you’re looking for a commercial song, it’s likely that someone already asked the question and there’s an answer waiting for you. Stop clogging up the site by repeating the same question from 30 people. Search before you ask!!!
Search for “Barry Manilow commercials” and you’ll find the answer.
I would love to know the song for Arnold Bread it goes:
I don’t love you too much. . . .
Name that tune? Song is by Led Zepplin… Goes like this, do not make fun I may have it a little mixed up. Hope you name the song title. – a know a little women but she wont be true, hey, hey, what can do. sharing what I thought was mine, I am gonna leave her while the guitars play.
Advertisements were not lame “back in the day”. I love to remember the old songs that went with all the products sold! There were so many good ones with catchy tunes. We’d all remember: My dogs better than your dog… from Kennel Ration; Hot dogs, Armor hot dogs what kind of kids eat…; MMMM,MMMMM Good… from Campbells soup; My bologna… from Oscar Meyer; You follow your nose… from Fruit Loops; Honey Combs big, yeah, yeah, yeah…; Oh I wish I were an Oscar Meyer Weiner…; A is for Apple, J is for Jacks…; Can’t get enough of super sugar crisp;
etc, etc. Seems one product always tried to outdo another! They are some of the best advertisements ever put on TV!
Gosh, Awsome Bill, did you also walk uphill in the snow both ways to school? What did you say, sonny???
Hey dude now comercials (and i dont care if ts spelt wrong) are lame but in the 1970s all comercials were spelt out and u could see hands in Barbie comercials unlike now (i mean the hand leading them around) with the comercials back than it taught my brother 2 read wnen he was 1
old navy- be the one to keep you one disaster less
don’t forget, 80′s kids, some of the best commercial lyrics ever were promos for the shows we grew up with!
go go power rangers
let the music play down at fraggle rock
The ads using old songs I can usually identify (the song) but when they use newer songs, I’m totally lost. This happened when iPod used Gorillaz’ Feel Good Inc.–it was such a great tune and I kept asking friends and family if they knew the song and got some really strange looks. Not sure how I figured it out–went online, maybe went to iPod (but maybe not)? Then had to buy the CD, found out the band was animated which made them even more interesting to me. iPod hasn’t had as catchy a tune in its ads since. Some ads use a portion of a tune, and if you know the song you know the next line is something that the product (or the product provider) wouldn’t like at all so it makes it rather funny. I hope the bands are getting their just royalties.
i want to know the name of song for maxwell house
I was watching an ad on TV and they were playing a song by Ten Years After. I couldn’t believe it. Brought back many nice memories.
Anyone know the one from the diet coke commercial?
Does anyone know the name of the song that they play during one of the Baileys commercial. It goes something like “I want to kiss you on ……”
ive tried searching it but i dont get the song.
help
I wanna know the name of the song in the Revlon ad with Jessica Alba!
Brother I saw an ad of Motorola phone in which a lady is sitting in a house and slowly the house gets folded into a phone(probably V3). A catchy tune was running in the ad. Can i Know frm. where I can download the tune?
Whats that one in the Clorox commercial, where the little girl is like, a mermaid in the tub and it has that amazing instrumental music?
This is the best answer and i get 10 points lol
There is a phone service that costs I believe 50 ˘ and you hold the phone up for 15 seconds and it can id any song for you.
Oddly enough it was also features in the new GTA IV, albeit a different fake company , and different number, same concept though. It works in a loud club, so I am positive if there was an advertisement on top with announcers it could still discern the song.
If you could find the production company of the advertisements you enjoy, you could also probably trace it back far enough and find the artist for original advertisement jingles, and then search his recent work.
Maybe they should make a page like IMDB for this, a collection of famous Advertisement/Commercial Jingle pioneers, and you can see what year and what commercial’s they have done in the past.
That’s just food for thought though.
I suppose I am the only one trying to actually help you find these commercial song artists
Hey Mike what’s that carribean commercial song ?
the chorus goes something like this Im commin jump jump im commin jump jump Im you queen hes my king my GoooD Im commin jump jump Im commin jump jump im commin jump jump Im you queen hes my king my GoooD Im commin jump jump I think its a vacation commercial ,not sure
Hi-
I was wondering if anyone knows the song in the most recent Yahoo commerical…I believe the commerical has a man with glasses on in it…If anyone knows the name of the song it would be a huge help.
Thanks
i remembered this song today that i heard from a commercial awhile ago. i can’t remember all of the words. the ad had a black haired woman singing into a microphone and then it switched to a couple of guys nodding their heads to the song. its driving me insane not knowing what song this is. can you help me?
